I called ahead & asked the Maui Marriott Ocean Club what diving operation they would recommend. Lahaina Divers was their recommendation. When we arrived I confirmed a 4 tank dive for the next day for my husband & I. They meet at the dive shop at 7am for check in, to fill out forms & they even have coffee & sweet breads as a continental breakfast! Nice touch! They provide a pick up to carry your dive bags to the water front, about 1/4 of a mile walk thru a nice shopping village with many restaurants on/near the wharf. Their dive boats are nice, larger than the Sandals resorts boat we are accustomed to, including "comfortable" bathrooms!! You are allowed to be on the bow & top deck when the boat is moving, so enjoy the sun cautiously!! They provide environmentally friendly sunscreen complimentary, so not to worry about bringing it with you! The dive briefing was extremely thorough, with many jokes to lighten everyone's spirits! The crew is very helpful, setting up your tanks if you would like, moving around gear, changing tanks in between dives, etc. They appeared to work very well as a team & enjoy what they are doing!! The 2 tank dive in the morning included Molokini Crater & Reef End/Aquarium. The water was chilly, 78 degrees...I know, for some of you, that is bath water, but a 3ml, liner & thin hood, didn't hold my temperature. On our way back to shore, the captain called in & asked for another long sleeveless wetsuit, so I could go on the 97 foot dive to the Carthaginian wreck. That was awesome!! We have mainly been diving in the Carribean & Figi, so it was GREAT to see new types of reef fish! The white-mouthed eel was a favorite as were new types of butterfly fish! During the surface interval sandwiches & fruit were brought out. Their ratios on dives are 7:1 or 8:1, divers to instructors, so we were never crowded or bumping into one another Groups appeared to be divided based on experience, something we don't always have, so enjoyed that very much! We returned to shore, changed boats & went out for our afternoon dives. Again, service was AWESOME!! They moved our gear over for us & my extra wetsuit was waiting! The "Carth" as the shipwreck is called, is only 15 minutes from the harbor at about 97 feet The anchor line is a nice decent line, so you can slowly make your way down. There are at least 4 frog fish that call home to this wreck, a creature you don't see often. The coronet fish were plentiful around the wreck! The submarine ride made several passes next to the wreck while we were diving. I had missed the announcement after the briefing, so thought my computer was beeping at me, only to discover it was the submarine horn letting the divers know it was nearby!! It was another unusual experience! Our last dive was a shallow dive, maximum depth 30-40 feet in a coral reef known as Shark Pit. The water became a little murky while looking for turtles...We didn't find any, but did see a white tip reef shark before heading back to the boat. As usual, warm chocolate chip cookies were waiting for everyone after the second dive! Again, a VERY nice touch for those who can eat them (I'm gluten free, but my husband enjoyed them!). At the end of the day, our dive bags were taken back to the shop by pick up and we walked back, talking about our first dives in Maui!! They have dunk tanks at the shop to rinse gear. There is free parking near the shop in the morning, though later in the day everyone is there to go shopping on the wharf... Today my husband will go to Moloki with them. They said the waves crossing the channel could be up to 10 feet, so decided to opt out & return to diving tomorrow. I would highly recommend this dive shop & their crew!! They are very professional, positively enjoy what they do & the service is top notch!! Thank you for a GREAT experience!
