“Got to do it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

Although it is expensive, I think its a great experience. You get placed at a table of eight and upon arriving you get a lei and a drink and have some time to watch the subset, watch demonstrations, take pictures. There was plenty of food and good variety of Hawaii speciality. The dancers and entertainment was fantastic and well worth it.

If you just want a taste of a Luau you can go to Betty's beach cafe around 7pm and then watch the feast of le le from the restaurant.

“great luau, but not worth 2x the price of others...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014

While visiting Maui for 6 weeks this year we went to 2 different luaus; the Old Lahaina Luau and the Royal Lahaina Luau. Both were great and had interesting differences. I'll compare the 2 so you can decide what's worth your $$.

1) Food - both were the same great food. Nothing stood out between them.

2) Drinks - both has unlimited free alcoholic drinks (mixed and wine/beer). The Old Lahaina blended drinks might have a small edge on the Royal Lahaina. They were more nicely presented (served in glass vs plastic, pineapple garnish, etc). No big whoop.

3) Atmosphere - both were outdoors and oceanfront... You really can't beat that! The Old Lahaina layout was circular (vs a front stage) and had more grass and terraces. At Old Lahaina they gave out real orchid lays vs shell lays at Royal Lahaina. Otherwise they were quite similar. Small edge to Old Lahaina. Again, no big whoop.

4) Traditional style and dancing - here's where the 2 luau's differed and it's really a matter of preference, not quality. The Old Lahaina luau 'seemed' more authentic (what do I know!? haha) and DID NOT include fire dancing/twirling. The Royal Lahaina was also very good and DID include the fire dancing. From what I heard, the Samoan's do fire dancing, but not the polynesians who settled in the Hawaiian island. My family and kids really enjoyed the fire dancing at the Royal Lahaina, yet it probably wasn't as authentic.

5) Price - this is the BIG difference between the two. Old Lahaina was about $100 and Royal Lahaina was about $50 (with a discount I think - my wife booked it so i don't remember exactly).

Overall, if you was a truly authentic luau and like paying more, then go with Old Lahaina. If you want a great time, good food, live entertainment, and to save a few $$ - then go to Royal Lahaina.

“If you want authentic this is the ticket to get...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

When on Maui, and wanting to go to a Luau, this is the only choice. Most all of the other offers are on hotel properties and are very much run of the mill, not necessarily Hawaiian in style (esp the show) and, well hello you're at a hotel/resort so you should know what that means..

O L L, as it is affectionately known is directly ON the beach in Lahaina Town, right by the Cannery Mall...hint, it is usually sold out up to a month in advance, so plan accordingly. From the traditional lei greeting, with Mai Tai, you're off to a great start...

seating is offered traditional, Traditional Seated in our first-row around the stage, guests are seated cross-legged on cushions and dine from a low table. Tables accommodate(8) eight luau guests. If your party does not occupy all seats at a table, there will be other Luau guests seated with your party.

Table & Chairs
Description: Enjoy the comfort of sitting at a dining table on chairs. Tables accommodate(8) eight luau guests. If your party does not occupy all seats at a table , there will be other luau guests seated with your party.

the welcome is genuine, the food abundant, and most ono (Hawaiian speak for broke da mouth, which is Hawaiian speak for some good, which I think you can figure out), the bar is free flow, the people that work there are the best, most of them long time employees...

so if you want sunset, local flavour, cultural integrity, and a darn good time...

GO...

Enjoy...

and take home a great memory...

“Really good Luau!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

I really screwed up. This Luau was recommended to me well in advance by multiple people so I booked it at least a month in advance. When we got to Maui, I thought our luau was on Monday. But when I went to pull out the printed reservation sheet on Monday, it said our show was supposed to be on Sunday. I called them and they put us on standby for Monday night. Long story short, even though they were sold out for Monday night, they were able to accommodate us for the Monday show.
They experience was excellent. The setting was right next to the ocean and they were pretty educational on the luau customs and preparations. Our service was EXCELLENT and the food was pretty good. The show after was very well done and the performers were energetic. Everything about this luau was well done and I owe them a debt of gratitude for making good on my mistake!!
I highly recommend this luau!

“Great Laua Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

We are so glad we choose the Old Lahaina Luau instead of other options in the area. To begin with the people are fantatic and you get the full feeling of what Aloha really means. From the people who checked us in to our server, they were wonderful! We even got actual orchid leis and little flowers to put behind our ears. DH and I took advantage of the photography offered (no push to buy if you weren't interested). We used ours for our church directory photo.

Once you are showed to your seat and get a free drink you have time to wander around and view the different demonstrations of Hawaiian crafts and traditions. Very well done. The unearthing of the Kalua pig was fun to watch too. The grounds are right on the waters edge and are simply gorgeous. The Food was served at a buffet that almost moved too quickly. Yummy! They bring a selection of desserts to your table. You can sit at low tables with cushions or at regular tables with chairs. Every seat has a good view.

The show was fantastic. Top notch entertainment and music. A reminder, this attraction only does Hawaiian dancing and music so no fire dancers, they aren't Hawaiian. There was nothing cheesy or overly touristy here at all. Very authentic. Well worth the money.
