“The Fish Condo - A406”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Add another thumbs-up to the list for the Fish Condo! We stayed there last week with our tween niece and we think it's the best place we've ever stayed in Maui (this is our 4th trip). She loved it, too! Beachfront views with turtles on the sand nearly every day and absolutely everything you could need - from plentiful cooking utensils to coolers (we took one to picnic on Haleakala) to boogie boards and the most comfortable beds and pillows ever (and I'm picky). There was even freshly-made ice in the freezer and a tropical floral bouquet to welcome us! Imagine a good friend with stylish, whimsical taste and a love of comfort invited you to stay at their place in Maui - that's what staying at this condo feels like. It feels like the vacation home you wish you had. Linda, one of the owners, is quick with responses and we would absolutely consider staying here again. The Hale Mahina property in general is good for people who prefer a quieter stay, and while there were lots of kids, they were all pretty well-behaved. If you want to play 'Marco Polo' in the pool or have loud parties on the lanai, this is not the place for that. If you don't mind a few common-sense rules that maintain consideration for everyone, then it's a fantastic place to stay.

I can only echo what others have said: beautiful grounds, amazing lanaii views (we took most of our meals there), spacious and well-kept condo with an owner (Linda) who was a dream to communicate with. We've already booked to go back again - that says it all.

This was our third Christmas holiday at Hale Mahina and second in the Fish Condo. First the Fish Condo - awesome! With a 9 year old, the condo provides ample amount of space to spread out and not be on top of each other over 12 days. The condo is well kept, updated and the view from the lanai is second to none. Linda, one of the condo's owners, is quick to respond to inquiries and is flexible with any special requests you may have. Hale Mahina's private beach, grounds and pool/hot tub are well maintained by Mr. Larry (manager) and offer a great alternative to staying at one of the resorts in West Maui. Highly recommended!

We had a very relaxing stay while in Maui! Great weather, great times!!

The complex is taken care of very well, never a mess anywhere, lots of room, the pool and beach were never crowded. Everything was always straightened up every morning, lots of beach chairs for everyone, and briquette BBQs for all to use. Parking was never an issue. Even had a sea turtle visit and rest up overnight on the beach, and saw some whales breaching out in the water (binoculars were on site)!

The condo unit.... "A406 - The Fish Condo".... well, if you want to figure out what you are missing at home come here! We were NEVER in need of any utensil or kitchen gadget or tool or fridge/freezer containers (for keepin the Mai Tai's cold!).... Also had beach swimming toys and flippers and snorkels.... Other stuff ..Washer/Dryer, Icemaker, Blender, Sat TV, it was all there!...Very well furnished and laid out, lots of places to sprawl out and relax, or sip on a few! Great views from the lanai (balcony) from start to finish daily. "NO A/C" was NO problem, open lanai doors and back windows kept a good airflow, although the first night required a little acclimatization!! :-) (It was -28'C/-18'F at home and 85'F here, so a ~105'F differential!!) Very good beds, one loft room and one back side bedroom, both very nice. "Road Noise", with windows open it didn't effect my sleeping! Overall,I can't think of a negative!

I thank everyone who makes this condo and complex such a great place to stay!

I WOULD GO BACK!! AND WILL DEFINATELY PROMOTE UNIT A406 "THE FISH CONDO" TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!

We had the pleasure of staying in condo A-405 for 8 nights in November. We were treating our daughter and her 4 month old baby for a relaxing break while her husband was stationed in Afghanistan. Because of the baby this trip was much slower paced than our usual frantic traveling pace where we try to cram in every sight and experience. The Hale Mahina was perfect for us. Parking was never a problem, and is free and very close to the stairs or elevator. The property is quiet, the beach is totally adequate in sized and never crowded. There are LOTS of chaise chairs stacked up so you don't have to worry about reserving them. A-405 has a large chest full of beach equipment. We appreciated the large sand umbrella to use on the beach to protect the baby from the sun. The kitchen was fully equipped with plenty of utensils, dishes and pans. The decor was very pleasant with new furniture and bedding. The beds were comfortable. The unit was very clean. The sunsets from the lanai were very beautiful, as the unit faces west. Meals on the lanai were delightful. The lanai is totally private from the sides and also secure because of the side walls. We left the lanai doors open all the time. The downstairs bedroom had a little road noise, but not too significant. The grounds were fabulous, with incredible hibiscus that must have been special hybrids because of the huge sizes and special colorings of the flowers. The pool water was a little cold, but there was also a hot tub. Neither were ever very crowded. The sound of the waves was so wonderful and soothing from our condo. It was like getting rocked to sleep every night. I loved being on the 4th floor because the panoramic view was expanded from lower floors. Also, we had high 2 story ceilings in the living room, as well as a loft bedroom. What a joy to open your eyes in the morning and see the ocean upon awaking!

Room Tip: Top floor is worth the money.

Our unit on second floor was nicely furnished and was a good value for the cost - the private beach was beautiful! We really appreciated that previous guests left staples: salt, pepper, cooking oil, salad dressing, butter, sodas, etc. There was even snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, games and books in a closet.
The maintenance fellow, Larry, who lives there keeps the grounds immaculate, every morning cleaning the barbecues, attending to the swimming pool.

Although Hale Mahina advertised non-smoking units, people are allowed to smoke on their verandas and porches up to 20' into common areas; it was too warm to close the louvered windows and sliding glass veranda door, so neighbors' cigarette smoke drifted onto our lanai and into the condo day and night. I did mention to one neighbor that I was allergic to smoke and she said she was a considerate smoker... but in 85 degrees without AC, there is no way to avoid the smoke. Due to the smoke we ended up spending less time in the complex and ate in restaurants more often than we had planned.
Next time I will make sure the whole complex is smoke-free; otherwise Hale Mahina was a nice place to stay.

This is a large complex situated amongst other similar large complexes. While I can't fault Mahana in any way - and the condo we rented is lovely - it should be pointed out that this is not exactly a paradise away from civilization as let's say you might find in Kauai. It's busy here, with lots of people coming and going, and lots of cars and almost city-like traffic. Parking is even problematic, although adequate - just.

Despite the well-run and well-kept-up operation, it's just not my cup of tea, so you may want to discount this rating.

Room Tip: Depends what you like, but you can get ground-floor walk-out to the beach-front condos, which is wha...
