My wife and I stayed here last Halloween and it was just perfect. Great location, awesome sunrises/sunsets, giant sea turtles frolicking just seconds away from our room... what more do you want? There was no air conditioning, but open the windows for two minutes and the trade winds cool you right off. There is a noise curfew, so if you want to blast music all night, look elsewhere! We loved it and the service was impeccable. Highly recommended!!!

On one hand, this is a place that I hesitate to recommend, in case too many others discover it, making it difficult for us to come back. On the other hand, there's no other place on the island I'd rather stay. We've stayed here 6 times....one time our daughter got married right on the grounds. It's one of the only places on the island where you can forget that you're right in a populated area of the island. You can relax on the grass or float in the pool without looking at concrete towers next door. The grounds are spacious. The view is fantastic. The pool, like the entire complex, is well maintained. At night, the place is quiet, except for the roar of the surf. If you're wanting a friendly place to relax and have a quiet base from which you can enjoy the island, then this is the place for you. If you're wanting to be crammed in amongst concrete multi-levelled condos, close to shopping malls and restaurants, with noisy cars racing on the road outside all night, then this isn't the place for you.....go to Kihei.

  • Liked — quiet, clean, beautiful gardens, well kept grounds, friendly staff, great barbecues and view
  • Disliked — top of the island...lots of driving to get to activities in Kihei or other side of island

This was my husband's and my first trip to Hawaii and we loved our stay!!! We flew into Maui and stayed at the Mahina Surf for 6 nights. This property was recommended to us by a friend so I knew a bit about it going in - but this is really a great place to stay. The condo itself is not airconditioned, but when you open the windows a fantastic breeze flows through and you forget why anyone even needs it - very cool at night and I was there in the middle of summer!

The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, olive oil and even coffee filters(a huge plus!) They even made sure there was a blender and toaster there for me. :) The private patio is a great place to eat breakfast (or dinner) and watch the sky change from sunrise to sunset. We didnt spend too much time at the pool since we were running around the island most of the time, but the pool is gorgeous, the grounds are seriously like heaven, and the view cant be beat. I was jealous watching the other families grill out bc the grill overlooks the ocean - what a cool spot.

There really isnt a beach there for you to wade in, but you can go snorkling right around there. Or you can do what we did and drive/walk a few blocks and check out the snorkling and beaches right down there.

Only downsides for me was the construction noise at the nearby condos - but that wasnt the fault of the property - just the area we were in. I've attached some photos - it was really a beautiful and affordable place to stay. Loved it!

  • Liked — The view and the pool
  • Disliked — noise from construction down the street

I can't say enough about the Mahina Surf. I stayed here a few times 20+ years ago when I was traveling as a teenager with my family. In June 07, I returned with my own children and stayed in unit 227. It was still just as nice as it was then. The gardens are perfectly manicured, the setting is peaceful and quiet, and the staff are terrific.

We saw seaturtles almost daily, bbq'd at the common area, and had a terrific, memorable time as a family. The only drawback I can see is that there is no a/c, but with all of the windows and the breeze, we were fine.

I had booked another hotel in Nov. of '07 for this trip (5/20 - 5/29/08). Upon arrival, it was awful. We drove around looking for another hotel to move to and found the Mahina Surf. Jennifer, the manager, is wonderful! She asked about the dates of our stay and gave us room keys so we could check out all of the avail. rooms and choose which one we wanted.

The property is beautiful, turtles came to the rocks each evening, and I got wonderful photos of the sunsets. The room was very tastefully decorated with "real" art on the walls. The kitchen had everything a cook could possibly want. The property observes "quiet hours" which is great for someone who isn't a partier. Welcoming basket is a nice touch.

I would only recommend that they provide larger towels. They did provide two beach towels but the towels in the bath were small for someone used to a bath sheet.

We will definitely stay again next year.
