“Wish I could stay forever...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

My husband and I went to this resort in May 2012. I still talk about our trip to Hawaii. I'm in love with this island and the stay at The Westin was truly fantastic. When we arrived at our room, we had a bottle of wine and a personalized letter from the Manager greeting us and wishing us a Happy Honeymoon. The rooms are soooo clean. There really is nothing I can say that is negative. The property is excellent. We took advantage of the shuttle bus to take us to the mall and to Sheraton Black Rock Beach. Loved it. If you're into snorkelling, you'll see a couple of turtles on the beaches by Westin. Perfect vacation.

This may be one of the best tagline I’ve heard in a long time. Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are excited to hear that your honeymoon was a perfect vacation for you. Congratulations and mahalo for choosing us for this special occasion. We look forward to welcoming you back perhaps for your anniversary. Our best to you both.
Sincerely,

From the moment we drove up to the front door in our rental car, we knew that they ativipate that this will be a family vacation. The units here are small fully equipped apartments. The staff who greated us came equipped with large plastic storage bins. They expected that we had stopped off at Costco to stock up for the week. And we had. Our family of six occupied two adjacent connecting units. We found units that were clean, spacious, well equipped, and well situated.

Our party consisted of mom and dad, a teenage boy, a four year old, an 18 month old, and grandfather. Our unit overlooked the ocean giving us views of Lanai, Molokai, and the sea in between. And in that sea were humpback whales splashing, spouting and breeching. Our little ones enjoyed the beach, the swimming pools, and the hot tubs. There's a children's pool with a mock up of a pirate ship. Kids can climb into the ship and choose between two water slides. When they tire of that, they can burn more energy in the little playground next to the pirate pool.

Although this is on the "dry" side of Maui, the grounds around the hotel are loaded with beautiful tropical plants, shrubs, and trees.

One of us slept on the fold out bed. He found that the support bars seemed to poke right through the rather thin mattress, making sleep difficult.

Room Tip: For us, this was a "once in a lifetime" trip so my daughter who did the booking asked for...

I stayed at the hotel for a week with my family and had 3 rooms. We had a ton of requests leading up to the trip as we were traveling with a baby and every single questiopns was answered and request was catered too. We recieved a warm welcome and the rooms were great: spacious, clean and comfortable.
The pools were great for kids and adults alike and the beach perfect for snorkling. Overall, we had a blast and will definitely be back

This is a very self-contained 10 year old timeshare property located on the north end of the Kaanapali area. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from the Kahului airport. There are some flights that go into the West Maui airport, which is only 5 min away. The resort is actually 2 separate properties, Ocean Villas and North Ocean Villas, that are interconnected and share some facilities (eg tennis courts, pools, restaurants, beach). Self-parking is free. There is also a free shuttle that takes you into Lahaina and the other Kaanapali hotels throughout most of the day. All units have stackable washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, microwave but no oven. All kitchen utensils are included, with service for 6-8. There is a small grocery store on site but prices are VERY expensive. Stop at the Lahaina Cannery Mall Safeway for supplies or better yet, stop by the Costco by the airport before coming to Kaanapali. If you have not seen Hawaii grocery prices before, you're in for a shock as it is, but double that for prices in the onsite grocery store.
We've been coming here for 8 years, always on "low season" times, May, September after Labor Day, early November and early December and it definitely seemed like the property has gotten more and more popular and crowded, with less and less pool space, etc. We just learned this last time though that the management has been selling alot of timeshare weeks as hotel time instead. As a Starwood Vacation Network timeshare owner, that's obviously bad news. The timeshare sales crew here is very active and as in any other timeshare presentation, they are VERY pushy, not unscrupulous, but pushy and very high-pressure nonetheless. I own my timeshare weeks at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, CA and have never EVER had a problem exchanging into this Maui property in low season times, but that has not stopped the timeshare sales reps from telling me each and every time I do an Owner update that I will have alot of problems in the future booking my vacation there as a non-owner and that it is imperative for me to buy a unit there. Absolute BS!! My biggest advice to people who fall in love with this property and want to own a timeshare week there, DON'T DO IT!! Buy your unit in another Starwood Vacation property instead for half the price and then internally exchange into the Kaanapali property. Owners can reserve 12 months ahead, non-owners can reserve 8 months ahead. Unless you can only come on very specific weeks, there is no reason to buy your timeshare here. Starwood's vacation timeshare properties are, as a rule, head and shoulders above the rest of the timeshare properties in the world, but prices still vary greatly from property to property. So buy in Orlando, or buy in Scottsdale, or buy in Rancho Mirage, THEN go stay in Maui!!

Room Tip: 1 Bedroom lock-off nits in the original Ocean Villas are older but they are also a bit larger than s...

We just checked in and everything is great so far. The lobby is open and airy with a great Hawaiian breeze. The woman at the desk was so informative and let us know of the local attractions and best areas for whale observation. We will be back to this location definitely.

The full kitchen and washer/dryer made the experience satisfactory. However, there was discoloration in the shower and we frequently had no hot water for showers. The sofa requires replacement but all other furnishings were in good condition. The tops of the cabinet drawers were very dusty and the unit needed overall better cleaning. Some of the pools were being closed for remodeling as we left on jan 7

We own oceanview at the North section of the Villas; we last stayed here three years ago. The villa, even though a few years older, is still in superb repair. Everything appears almost totally new. Westin beds are softer than we would like, but that's the major criticism of the place. Valet parking is excellent, although it has gone from $9 to $12 per night. Check-in was quick and pleasant, and the bellman brought our bags to the room within a few minutes. Our view was of the pools with a nice view out to the ocean, facing south. For families facing a decision of whether to stay here versus the Westin hotel or the Sheraton hotel, it comes down to whether you want a somewhat better pool experience or if you want lots of space and the ability to save some dollars on food, since with the villas you have essentially a full kitchen, including dishwasher, not to mention a washer and dryer at your disposal. These villas are extremely spacious - my wife and I occupied the larger part of the lockoff, and our two adult daughters occupied the smaller part. All of us truly enjoyed the experience. Showers are excellent, with lots of water pressure. A previous reviewer complained about lack of hot water, but we showered at various times throughout the day and never had a problem. TV's are excellent, although the cable offerings could be a little better. Believe the entire property was essentially full, but never once heard any sound from our neighbors - these rooms are very well insulated. Be warned that eating on property is pricey - to save money, stop at Safeway in Lahaina before coming to the Villas. Overall, highest possible recommendation.
