“Dissapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

There are many great things about this resort, but there were some negatives as well. Negative enough that they outweighed the pros and I would not return. First, the pros:

- The in-room amenities are top-notch. The heavenly bed, high quality finishes and TVs and having a washer/dryer was a huge benefit. We used it almost daily.
- If you have small children, there are 2 pools that are only 1 1/2 feet deep, which is great for parents who dont want to be on guard the whole time you are at the pool.
- Everything you need is right there for you at the resort and the shuttle to Lahaina and the other Westin are a great benefit as well.
- The restaurants were better than average. Normally Im not too impressed with Starwood restaurants.

The cons:
- The studio is extremely small. Its a hotel room with a fridge. We thought we could get by with just our one 4 year old, but we didnt even have anywhere to put our suitcases. If you have more than 2 people, do not get a studio. We did upgrade to a one bedroom (at a cost), and it was much better.
- If you want to be at the pool with the water slide, plan on getting there at 8am for a chair, or paying extra for the reserved chairs (all of which line the pool..if you dont want to pay, you cant be right up next to the pool).
- The quality of your stay is going to be VERY dependent on where your room is located and there are alot of poorly located rooms (I would venture that 1/4 of the resort has bad room placement). Our first room was in building 7 facing Molokai, which was ok, but it was towards the road and very noisy. If you come all the way to Maui, you want to sit on your deck and hear birds (or silence), not the highway. Once we moved to a one bedroom, we were in building 6 and didnt have highway noise but had generator noise. Loud enough that we never sat on our deck or had the door open for a breeze. We tried to move rooms again, but there were never any better options. All availabe rooms were close to the road, over a parking lot or right outside the kid pool. This is the main reason I would not return. I would not want to take my chances on getting a lousy room again. It ruined the whole experience. And there seem to be way too many pooryly situated rooms.

Room Tip: Pay for ocean front if you dont want to take a chance on a lousy room. Stay away from rooms closest...

“Almost perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We go to this hotel/resort every year, so I can compare the quality and service year to year. We just returned from our 10 nights there, and have decided not to go back during this busy time, or to try another resort next year. The grounds are wonderful, the ocean, the pools, the 2 restaurants - all superlative. Our issue is a small one, but nevertheless, it matters to us. When the hotel is full, the staff makes a point of telling you that whenever you want something a little different, or let's say, an upgrade. Smallish things like the maids not cleaning when they should, and the front desk not too worked up about it...in other words, we don't need you so very much. Some staff are very responsive, exceptionally so, but it seems their ability to actually help you is limited, which might account for the lack of interest in doing so. I had forgotten some medicine, had a friend fed-x it out to me, and asked for it everyday...seems it sat "downstairs" for 3 days because no one thought to look there for it. I had to push and push to get them to look in another place for it.
These are not much, though. Big picture, this place is a real pleasure to visit. We like the decor and find the rooms plenty big, they contain washer/dryers, kitchenette, jacuzzi bathtubs...perhaps not new, but still modern looking and extremely comfortable.
The spa is fantastic. The restaurant [Italian] is excellent. If little things don't work you up as they do me, go for it. You'll not regret it.

Room Tip: This is a tough one. The hotel staff has no say in where they put you, and it's quite difficult...

“Remarkable place, wonderful vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We spent our Hawaii vacation here and there was nothing missing or to wish for that we didn't have.
Had a room on the first level first, but because was next to a noisy entrance door we requested to change the room. Moved to a higher floor and the view was amazing! garden, rainbow, flowers, nothing missing!
Service was great and we enjoyed spending time by the main pool and by the kids pool. The pirate ship was awesome and our 4yo boy loved it. Also loved the train rides across the street, a big hit for families with kids.
Washer and dryer were helpful as well as having a regular size refrigerator for fruits, drinks and breakfast food was great. If we'll travel to Maui we'll consider staying here again!
Loved the pond, the main lobby and the Starbucks coffee by the fountain!

Discover the Duke's at the hotel next door, only on our last day, and the happy hour there was awesome.

“Westin Villas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Our one bedroom room was spacious and had a nice kitchen/day room. I really enjoyed the breeze coming in the room even though we were on the ground level. The staff were all very nice except for one issue I will address in a second.

The restaurant on the property by the beach with the large screen TV's had the worse service. Our waitress went on a break without telling anyone and never gave us our full order? I thought it was a fluke then the second day our waiter seemed more interested in talking with the bartender and texting on his phone then bringing us the drinks we ordered. We never went back to this bar/restaurant again on our trip. The drinks at this location for some reason also seemed watered down not sure why.

Room Tip: stop at costco get food/snacks/wine etc. Save some money

“Beautiful resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

My family and I stayed there this past week in a 2 bedroom lock out. It was a beautiful resort and grounds were kept nicely. Only two complaints I have- one is the wifi- a bit unstable and continued to drop out- but we are on vacation so a little digital disconnect isn't a bad thing :). Secondly check out. We asked for a late checkout and were granted until noon. At 12 pm on the dot we not only received 2 phone calls to leave the room but also a visit from a staff member at the door asking "are you checking out yet?" it certainly felt like we were being forced out when we would've been leaving at that time anyway. A bit of a sour taste on leaving but overall great stay!
