“Fantasic stay in Maui thanks to Westin Kaanapali Villas!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

We have a family of five and have been to Hawaii once each year for about 7 years. This was our most enjoyable trip of them all. For one, Maui has become our favorite island, so if you plan on staying here Kaanapali is a great location. Lots of resorts, restaurants, golf, activities. And if picking Kaanapali you can't go wrong with the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas.

First of all the premises/resort is flat out beautiful. The place has a very new contemporary look while retaining the local Hawaiian ambiance. And if you get lucky enough to score an ocean view room, its just incredible. There is something mesmerizing about looking into the Hawaiian seas from your bedroom/balcony and seeing Lanai and/or Molokai off in the horizon. There are nice koi ponds near the lobby that my kids loved. There are several swimming pools to swim in which was fun for the kids. One had a pirate ship in it with little slides and a shallow swim area for young kids. One of the larger pools has a nice slide for bigger kids.

We also enjoyed the nicely furnished suites. We had a two bedroom villa which was great with our kids. Ate breakfast each day in the room. There are several nearby markets to do grocery shopping. I recommend Foodland which has great "poke" and other local faire. There is also a Safeway and Times supermarkets. As I mentioned before we had a fantastic ocean view. We were in building 2 on the 4th floor of the South property (there is a north and south portion of the resort). Rooms were spacious equipped full fridge and washer and dryer. If had to choose I would take view over size, but here we had BOTH! Also.... don't forget the Westin Heavenly beds!

The resort is also very close to the Kaanapali golf resort where they have two nice courses. A bit overpriced but what isn't in Hawaii. I played both courses (Kai and Royal). The highlight of these course is the vistas of the ocean and the islands in the background. It makes all the bad shots feel okay.

Service was excellent. Everyone from check-in at lobby, towel guys, concierge was great. Because we happened to be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary they also surprised us with a nice bottle of champagne in the room upon arrival.

Parking is plentiful. They offer daily valet service, but we always found parking close by so it was never an issue. Also.... maybe it was the time of year that we came (October), but we never had trouble finding a beach chair by the pool. They also offer umbrella and beach chair service at the beach if interested. We never did but we saw several people who did

The BEST part about this resort is the beach. Its gorgeous. Again, amazing views of Lanai and Molokai. Water is nice and warm. Waves are also very gentle and safe for kids. But what makes it take the cake is the snorkeling off this shore. There is lots of great coral literally 10-15 feet off shore with tons of great tropical fish. We spent almost $100 per person to do the Molokini snorkeling tour (which was great), but the snorkeling was seriously much better off the shore of the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas. And that without the 40 minute drive to the harbor and one hour boat ride to Molokini. Seriously.... it was better at the beach here because the water was calm and you are RIGHT THERE swimming over the coral and the fish in shallow waters. For the snorkeling excursions, the coral is 30-50 feet below so unless you scuba dive or SNUBA you can't see all the wildlife up close. At the resort beach, you are right up close to it all and there is plenty of territory to explore. You could spend all day there. My kids learned to snorkel in the ocean for the first time this trip (ages 8 and 6). It was much easier and more enjoyable for them at the hotel than at Molokini. I would recommend renting gear from the resort. They offer a weekly rental for everything at $36/week. You can get it for less off site but then you have to drive there and take the family to make sure everything fits everyone. And if there is a problem with anything, you can just walk it to the booth right near the beach and they will replace it right there on the spot. One of the snorkels had a leak, so it was great to be able to just walk over there to exchange rather than driving back to some off site store. Just the great snorkeling alone makes this place an ideal place to stay for the family, but as I mentioned above, there is so much more to like about this place and why I gave it 5 stars, Its not the same as a Four Seasons or a Ritz Carlton, but the sum of all the positives place it right up there in my book.

If there is any gripe I have, I wish the towel exchange booths would stay open later than 6pm. Sometimes the kids want to play at the beach or swim in the pools beyond that time, and we had to go all the way to the lobby to get new towels after 6pm. Serious drag.

If you don't like kids, do not stay here. It is very family friendly and there are lots of kids.

On friday they have a cool bazaar to buy souveneirs near the beach. We bought some gifts and some wonderful Hawaiian shaved ice.

All in all a great resort in a great location on a great beach. HIGHLY recommend this place.

p.s.. There is also a spa and a kids club which we did not use so cannot comment on

Room Tip: As with most beachfront resorts, ask for a room higher up with a view.

Thank you for sharing about your FANTASTIC Westin Ka’anapali Villas stay. We are so happy to read about your experience and know that Maui has become your favorite island. It’s my favorite island, too. You can certainly tell when a place has become a favorite when you know where to get the best “poke.” We are also thrilled to hear that the kids learned to snorkel on this trip. It doesn’t get better than that. thank you for your feedback about our towel exchange times. I have forwarded your comments to our pool services team for follow-up. All in all, it looks like you and the family had an amazing Maui vacation and we can’t wait to welcome you back.
Sincerely,
Sulinn

We enjoyed everything at the resort from the spacioius 1 bedroom condo to the great oceanfront location. Great snorkeling in front of the resort and great service. There is a beautiful view of Lanai and Molokai from the resort and great restaurants and shopping are nearby.

We stayed in an efficiency unit which had a kitchen with everything but an oven. A few steps away was the barbeque, the adult pool, and we were in a ground unit so everything worked out fine. The service was excellent, the staff seemed happy all the way to the front desk down to housekeeping. The bed was comfortable. Their restaurant was really delicious and fairly reasonable for a resort. They have a shuttle that will take you to the grocery store, and to several shopping areas including into Lahaina. A short walk to the beach allowed us to view the sunsets. Just an all around excellent experience. Not only would I recommend this resort to my friends, I would definitely return their myself.

Room Tip: We asked for a view of the ocean and the pool and got both. We were on the ground floor corner unit...

Staying at the Westin Villas is a fantastic way to spend some time in Maui. Close walking to Whaler's Village for restaurants, shopping, and adventures. Huge beaches, beautiful sunsets, and a great pool area. We have stayed at this property a few times, and have never been disappointed.Highly recommend staying at this property for your trip to Maui!

We stayed here for a week for our honeymoon. We originally booked for an island view, but we were upgraded to an ocean view for our one bedroom. The staff is amazing! Please use the concierge desk, they were more than willing to go the extra distance, especially Matt! The pools are nice for choice, ranging from kids, to activities to the quiet adult pool. If you don't like sitting by the pool, the beach is about 15 feet away and have spectacular sunsets. We took full advantage of the grilling areas and cooked ourselves a nice meal under the tiki torches. The sports bar is fantastic, they have 16 TVs and they are willing to put any sport or game on any of them. We were watching the White Sox game on our own TV while the rest of the bar was watching NFL games and it felt like we had the bar to ourselves.
If you have the opportunity to stay in Maui, I highly recommend this hotel.

Our family of 6 stayed at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort in late March of 2012. Our children enjoyed many hours of entertainment swimming and playing water basketball in the multiple on-site pools. We utilized the spa for a relaxing massage and spent many hours soaking up the Hawaiian sun both poolside and on the beach. The Westin is located directly on beautiful Kaanapali beach and within walking distance of restaurants. Our accomodations included a full kitchen which was wonderful for quick lunches and lazy breakfasts. The rooms and service were fantastic. We booked our vacation through Kay Ryan at mauikay.com. Kay does it all, from booking hotel, airfare, and rental car to finding and booking the perfect island activities for our teenagers and 10 year old. Kay is located on Maui and the excellent job she does is one of the reasons we have visited Maui twice in 3 years and are itching for another visit soon.

We booked at the Westin Kaanapali and got a good deal on Island view Studio but were a bit apprehensive due to some negative comments on various web sites - the resort was super !!! we loved the spacious, open area feel of the resort and the ability to shuttle to the other Westin resorts on Maui. Our room was spacious with full size fridge, stove, dishwasher & washer and dryer. Check in even late at night was gracious, easy and a nice volunteer from concierge to get our car parked for us so we could go straight to reception. Nice variety of places to eat on site as well as 2 smallish sotres selling food, wine, souvenirs etc. - a bit pricey but very handy. Our room was quiet, comfortable and clean. Check out similarly quick and easy and I would recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Ocean view is well worth the additional cost but avoid rooms overlooking the children;s pool - can b...
