“Great vacation with kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

My family (wife and two kids - 6 and 8) ended up at the Kahana Falls through RCI. At the time of booking I had requested an upgrade to the two bedroom if available. Amazingly, I got the upgrade. So when we arrived at the hotel, we were very pleasantly surprised.

The two bedroom consisted of a one-bedroom unit and the adjoining hotel room. This provided us with lots of room for everyone in a now, very spacious two-bedroom suite. The hotel itself consists of two towers, a small two-story row of units, and the clubhouse containing the reception on the main floor, fitness center business center upstairs, and towels, laundry and beach equipment downstairs. There is free parking in their lot, which can get full although we never had a problem getting a spot.

The hotel looks nice from the outside and is ok inside. The suites are outdated but very clean and relatively comfortable. One of the kids slept on the fold-away bed. It wasn't particularly comfortable but she didn't seem to mind. The kitchen was fully stocked and included the necessary equipment and accessories. The unit also included a washer and dryer - very convenient. There were separate AC controls for the lviing room/kitchen, and each bedroom and they worked very well, although my wife preferred the overhead fans (which also worked nicely). Maid service was efficient and they came everyday. Fresh bath towels could be obtained as needed. Each room had a TV with LOTS of channels. The living room TV was a large flat screen.

The pool area is quite nice with a rocky grotto feel to it with running water and small waterfalls. The water was clean, if not a little cool. There was a hot tub and small kiddie pool as well. They were numerous loungers and there was no problem getting one whenever we wanted, although early December may not be a particularly busy time. Almost all of the guests were older couples and a few families with young children.

The hotel provided (for a small fee per day or week) beach chairs, boogy boards, and other equipment. Beach access was easy - it was directly across the street through the parking lot of another hotel. Fresh beach towels were provided every day and occassionally we got towels twice per day. There is an extensive activities desk, although we didn't make use of their services.

There were other activities at the hotel and my wife and kids took part in the lei-making class one day. Another time, a mobile BBQ truck parked in the parking lot and we ate a delicious BBQ dinner at the tables in the pool area.

The fitness center is small but included a treadmill, elliptical, and bikes. There is a weight rack (up to 50lbs) and a small all-in-one type machine. The equipment was all in working order. Beside the fitness center is the business center which allowed me to print our boarding passes for our next flight. The business center consists of exactly one PC and printer. Just walk in and get online.

The location was terrific with the beach across the street. The area is mostly small hotels and residences. But having a car is really a necessity. That said, there were lots of restaurants and amenities nearby. A block north is a small grocery store, pub, beach store, and more. A block north of that is an ATM and a full strip mall. To the south are numerous stores, gas station, restaurants and strip malls.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a very pleasant stay here and would have no problem returning here.

“Depression in Maui”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

Where to begin? We traded our timeshare week for a "hotel room" at Kahana Falls. So, this review is with regards to this type of room at KF. This "hotel room" is actually used as a 2nd bedroom lockout, which means if you booked a 2 bedroom timeshare, the "hotel room" is the 2nd bedroom. The Good: The ceiling fan and AC worked. The bed was comfortable. The Bad: Too many things. The Ugly: The room. We have been in "hotel room" trades before through Marriott, but this was THE WORSE! We had two terms for it: The Dungeon or The Hell Hole. The room itself was approx. 8x10, not counting the bathroom. It had a queen size bed and a large dresser, which took up most of the room, and were dated. There was about 1 ft. walking space between the bed and dresser on one side, maybe 4 ft. between the bed and the small "kitchenette" area, which consisted of a small refrigerator, a microwave on a small shelf, a toaster and a coffee maker on a small counter with a small sink. At the other end of the room, we had a small corner that had been mirrored floor to ceiling, which had a small table with two chairs for our eating area. We had to pull the table away from the corner in order to have room enough to eat at the table, which then took away most of the walking space in that area. There was no light over the eating area, so we would have to turn on the bathroom light to have sufficient lighting. The bathroom was large and dated, with a really weird green whirlpool tub/shower combo that had frosted glass doors to the ceiling, which meant taking a shower almost in the dark. The tub was weird, and with no window in the bathroom and a horridly noisy fan, who would want to take a bath or whirlpool in it? There was ONLY one window for the entire room, which was 4 ft. W, and 2 ft. H. All of these "hotel room" units had this window, which faced the hallway, so if you opened up the blinds, anyone walking by could look into your particular dungeon. To make it worse for us, we had the window facing the elevator shaft for our scenery, so we had no outside light to speak of. We had the option of using the Ohana room for cooking and hanging out (flat screen TV, fitness center, dining/kitchen area), but the staff did not take out the trash for the 3 days we stayed there, and the window situation was just as bad, except for in the fitness area. To be fair, if we had the 1 bedroom with a lanai and adequate windows, we might have been happy. But that was not the case. There were other people probably also with dungeons of their own trying to hang out in the common areas, which had a nice pool, but no one could hang around the pool or at the beach, as it was raining and windy. Also, there was only an old TV and no Wi-Fi in the rooms, just a hard wire hookup for PC's. After a few days we said ALOHA to the dungeon/hell hole and decided to give ourselves a real vacation at a good hotel. DO NOT take the "hotel room."

Room Tip: Get a one bedroom with a lanai.

“Not my cup of tea”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We have just returned, on 27th November, from a wonderful 16 day vacation to the Hawaiian Islands, 9 days spent in Maui and 7 days in Kauai. Without a doubt the Kahana Falls Resort was the biggest disappointment of the whole trip. Now before I start this was the only resort I could get into for the dates I wanted through my RCI timeshare exchange and the Studio was also all that was available.
The big pluses at the resort were the staff and everyone was very nice all of the time. As for location, the resort gets 5 out of 5 for being in Maui and only 15 minutes from downtown Lahaina where restaurants and shopping are in abundance.
The biggest negative was undoubtably our room, which as mentioned was a Studio. We did not know until we walked in that we were getting a pulldown Murphy Bed. We had to strip down our lounger (which incidently was the most uncomfortable setee I've ever sat on) and then pull the bed down out of the frame. We had to put weight on it to stop it springing up again. One of the door panels dropped off when we opened the fridge door and the balcony was tiny, although we did get the end of day sunshine into it, after the swimming pool area had been blocked out. This brings me to my last big complaint, the swimming pool was like stepping into the North Sea off the East coast of Scotland, it sucked the breath right out of your body, it was that cold. I hardly saw anyone in there and it was also shaded from sunlight for most of the day so there is little to no chance that it ever gets any warmer. I spent 2 minutes in there before I succumbed to the cold and ran up to the hot tub to recover.
There were many wonderful things about our time here, the trip to Hana being the highlight of the whole trip. As a car renter I normally get the job of driving on our sightseeing trips however we took the advice of others and booked the trip through the agent at the Kahana Falls and it proved to be a great decision. There were so many wonderful things to see and our trip with Valley Isles tours and our driver Wil was fantastic. Wil was born and raised in the area of Hana so we couldn't have had a better person to explain the area, a truely wonderful trip. We also went to the "Feast at LeLe" for our Luau, we thought it OK but I would give it a 3 out of 5.
Well time constraints mean I have to sign off, please feel free to ask me any questions

Room Tip: Make sure you get a better class room than a hotel or studio type

“I love this place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

I have stayed at this hotel 5 times now and each time i love it more and more! The rooms are very comfortable and clean and equipped with full kitchens and a balcony to enjoy the warm breeze from the ocean which is just steps away. The pool is very Inviting and I love the waterfall. I especially love the hot tubs, grills, and activities including lei making classes. I would definitely recommend this hotel/time share for families and couples.

“working vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

I went on a business trip to Lahaina and we stayed at Kahana Falls. We had free internet, which was good considering there were many of us and planning events through the week. Some of us enjoyed the fitness center but I thought running on the beach was probably more workout than they were getting. My room was shared and my cost was $89.00 per night, which the company paid half. So I got a nice working vacation at half the cost. The room clean and bed comfortable.
