“A PLEASANT SURPRISE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

We were last here five years ago, when the restaurant was named Canoes. When you spend a couple of months here and want to eat out, you tend to look for deals. We would go to Canoes for this reason and thought we would try the "early bird" special here. The wait staff was very obliging and the food was excellent, much better than Canoes (although we used to enjoy the salad bar). The salad was very good, especially the dressing. The Mahi fish was as good as more expensive restaurants. The flavor accented by the curry sauce, along with good veggies and mashed potatoes was truly excellent. We took the cheesecake home as we were full after the first two courses. In reading other reviews, we will try the happy hour as well next time. We have found that one of the best ways to beat the high cost of restaurant food here on Maui is to go to early birds or go to happy hours and enjoy reduced price pupus and drinks.

“Will go back for sure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Beautiful view, outdoor seating is limited but great (especially on the Ocean side), very friendly wait staff, awesome happy hour drinks and food (prices were really reasonable for a Hawaiian restaurant/bar). Best spicy tuna roll I've had, possibly ever. Even the sashimi was half price for the happy hour special. Friends had chicken wings and ribs off the happy hour menu and said they were excellent. We had sushi and sashimi of excellent quality and it was so cheap we ate more than we should have!! Can't wait to go back.

“Lovely evening out of the resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Having been here 15 years ago, we were really in for the view and the nostalgia. The setting is beautiful, especially if you get a table where you can see the sunset over the water. The cocktails and appetizers are very good. In fact, my husband made a salad and a couple of appies his dinner. Good choice. My beet salad was really good. My entree was only OK. The risotto was gluey and salty. My children enjoyed the experience, too. The waitstaff was outstanding.

“Not amazing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Just got back from eating there. It's expensive which doesn't bother me so much if you get what you pay for but alas, you definitely don't. The only things I truly enjoyed about that meal were the Paradise Punch which was awesome and the bread and butter which were also very good. My husband's $45 fillet was not top quality and though ordered medium, it was well done and med-well just in the middle. I got the fish of the day and it was a tiny portion of rather bland, fishy fish with no seasoning and maybe a half teaspoon of 'fresh fruit salsa', accompanied by a small dollop of tasteless mashed potatoes and a few carrots. Definitely not amazing for $35. They did comp us a pineapple creme brule'. The staff was great - very friendly. I really enjoyed meeting and talking with them. They make up a lot for the very mediocre food. Sunset view was awesome, complete with boats. All of that being said, I left there wishing I'd just gone to Maui Tacos where we were headed when we decided to stop here instead. :/
