“Nice inexpensive with good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2010

Booked through Expedia and for about $100 a night is the best deal you will find in Maui that is a decent place to stay. The grounds and salt water pool and salt water hot tub are the nicest part. The rooms have everything you need and were remodeled about 5 years ago. Some poeple live there as the location is vacation condos as well.

A lot of children there in the summer and both pools are filled with them so it is really not a place to relax by the pool. The resort should make the salt water pool adult only and use the other one for familes.

It's in a great location as you can walk a block to front street and get around on bicycles or scooters if you want.

The parking is a big rip off at $15 per day so if you rent you will spend a lot of time looking for nonexistant parking elsewhere.

Very touristy area so not the place to go if you don't want that.

Wild chickens and roosters all over the property will wake you up very early, by the way. Maui does nothing to control this and you will see it all over the island.

This is within walking distance to the beach and shops. They have two pools on the property that are really nice as well as an outdoor tv and grills. The condo's are spacious, it's just like being at home, you can buy your groceries eat at the condo or grill by the pool. The staff are really nice and the grounds are kept beautifully. Would definately come back here! Kid friendly too.

The property is lovely, exactly like the pictures on their website. A great location, walking distance to almost everything. I would have rated the rooms higher if they had twin rooms. We didn't want to spend the extra amount to get a two bedroom place and so one of us had to sleep on the fold out couch, which is never a great experience.

After reading all the reviews on TA about the Aina Nalu I was sure it was going to be nice, but it was even nicer than expected. Upon checking in I asked if we could get an upgrade from a studio to a one bedroom. Sure enough they gave us a one bedroom at no extra cost to us. Check in fast, easy and very very kind people to help you.

Condo - one bedroom - everything we needed for a week on Maui. We used the refrigerator all the time. Did not cook at all but had breakfast and lunch upon occasion in the room. Queen bed comfortable. Everything is in the condo, soap, shampoo, lotion, paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, beach towels at housekeeping....no wait.

Grounds - always clean. 2 pools on sight (one saltwater and one is a regular chlorine pool), a double size cabana at each pool, lots of lounge chairs, BBQ grills and a couple tables, coffee in the morning from 8-9am at the chlorine pool, recycle bins for everything.

Lobby service - open till 10pm and will help you with anything you need. From directions, exchange of pool towels, whatever.

Jackie from Expedia is on premises to help you arrange day trips.

Snorkel Bob's across the street for beach chair and umbrella rentals for the day or the week. Very helpful because you find you want to get in your car and sit at a different beach everyday. Pick up a cheap styro cooler, fill it up, load your chairs and umbrella and head to any beach within minutes.

We drove the entire island starting and stopping at as many beaches as we could. Our favorite was right in Lahaina, Baby Beach. Just a 2 minute drive up Front Street (where there is every type of eating and shopping you may want). Front street is a one block walk from Aina Nalu. We walked to Front Street every night for the sunset and nightlife fun and activity. Very safe anytime of day or night.

Now the one big problem we have with the Aina Nalu....parking is $15.00 per day. Ridiculous to have to pay that price on top of your room rental price. Yes you can park on the street, which we did for 3 nights. But on the fourth night and for the rest of our stay we rode up and down the streets for about half an hour until we finally gave in and stopped at the desk lobby and got a parking pass for what we thought was the night only. NOT SO....once you purchase your parking pass you pay for the entire balance of your stay at Aina Nalu. So don't purchase a parking pass at checkin. You might be lucky enough to find a street parking spot that night. If you have to park in the Aina Nalu parking lots, wait until you absolutely have to because you pay $15.00 per night from that day on until the end of your stay.

If going to Maui, Aina Nalu is the must stay for its location, beaches, convenience and price.

After staying in many stucco and steel, high-rise "Hawaiian" condos/hotels, this was a indeed a change of pace. The tropical plants throughout the grounds combined with the design of the buildings and elevated walkways give the facility an ambiance of a Hawaii of a bygone era; after all the Aina Nalu is located in a historical district of Lahaina. One would almost expect to see Elvis from the late 60's or Don Ho in the early days singing by the pool. The updated rooms are excellent with plenty of granite counter tops and stone in the bathrooms. I have seen some reviewers complain about the bugs, but hey it is the tropics and there is a lot of vegetation throughout the grounds. If there were no bugs and you are in the tropics, that means someone is using a lot of pesticides. The complex is walking distance from entertainment, shopping, restaurants and grocery stores so a rental car would only be needed if you wanted to leave the area. Great views of the mountains from the East side of the complex.

Arrived here on the 9th July and stayed for 6 nights. We arrived at 10.30am and our room was ready to go into. We had a free upgrade from 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom to 2 bedroom with 2 bathroom. Reception was friendly and gave us lots of maps and info about the place. Our unit was at the back facing towards the highway, but at night the traffic noise didn't seem to bother us. The units were beautifully decorated, and so happy to have a full kitchen and washing machine. Our 2 daughters loved having 80 tv channels to choose from. Location was great, 2 blocks away from harbour. After reading comments from trip advisor was going to park out on the street and not pay $15 per day parking, but after seeing the street, it always seemed quite full. Decided for convenience and parked right underneath our unit. My husband had an operation just before we arrived in Maui and was happy to sit near the pools watching television and reading books. Also used the BBQ's for dinner. The place is alot larger than what we thought, but it didn't seem to be overcrowded or noisy. The only thing was - not much signage to find pools, but soon got used to where everything is after 1 day. We want to come back to Maui next year and would definately stay here again.

This place is amazing
1) Wife got sick first day in Maui- was not feeling well. Felt the day she spent at the hotel by the infiniti pool and the cabanas was the most relaxing day ever while I took our 8 and 10 year old out to snorkel
2) Shoprite(?) food store had same prices as food at home and so convenient-made our own breakfasts and had snacks for during the day- even ate in a couple nights as kids were tired and did not want to go out-- very nice kitchen etc..
3) It was nice not to be at a big hotel on Kanapali which was so busy- nice to go back to a quiet oasis- and very easy to drive to the beaches minuets away
4) I think that paying for the parking was well worth it- if you go out during the day and come back after 8-9 at night- very hard to find a spot. Also with all the beach stuff and constantly emptying car etc.. of wet towels after beaching etc.. nice to par right outside our condo.. the $15 was worth it
5) Staff was not as warm as I would have expected but I had little interaction with them...
6) The timeshare tour- we did do it- basically- due to wife getting car sick sometimes- we decided to take a group tour of Hana-- which would have been $400 for the four of us- we ended up saving $160 by doing the timeshare tour- which took a total of 60 minuets which we felt was worth it.
7) For $200/night-getting an amazing updated Condo with stone bathrooms and granite kitchen and waher/dryer etc.. which is so helpful with kids etc. not sure how you could go anywhere else. Also-- Lahaina is very convenient as you are 10-15 minuets from Kanapalli- but also that much closer to going to Wailea etc. or other parts of the island- much better location than Kanapali hotels.. feel free to write if you have questions
