“Budget hotel/condos”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

We got this hotel through Priceline bidding and it was rated at 3 1/2 star and let me tell you that's not the case. This is more like a 2 star motel with no daily maid service, old and musty furniture and rude front reception staff. The rooms have a weird odor and no amount of airing got rid of that.

“Comically mean front desk - Very Nice Facility”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

We have stayed here about 5 time though the years including its pre-renovation days. The 3 stars is not really right to describe this facility. It really is a 5 for the space and a 1 for the guest interface.

The room renovations, the salt water pool and the Lahaina location are all really great.

The lack of any level of front desk training has become part of the "ambiance" of this place. It's like going to a dive restaurant with really good food.

We got in at noon and were told that they wouldn't have anything ready until 3 - the posted time for check-in. When we have arrived early in other hotels they checked on the room, took our bags for us, let us use the pool, bought us a drink, or offered to call us on our cell when the room was ready. We were told not to come back until 3, because they were completely full and they didn't want us to be "PO'ed" if the room wasn't ready. (It's like Island-time - you just let it go.)

The script at the front desk lets you know that there is no maid or trash service like they were telling you that there was weather outside. (What??!! Again, we have stayed here a lot! A little explanation is appropriate.)

The management is clearly emphasizing the cleanliness and basic operation of the hotel. Things are pretty ship-shape and work the way they are designed to. The pool is clean, the grounds manicured, the gills are clean. On the flip side - there is no maid service, the WIFI is anemic and the staff could easily be extras for a bad zombie island movie.

As an adult couple on vacation - this is a little too rudimentary. I think we could stay here when we bring the kids.

“Unfriendly folks at receiption but beautiful facility”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Its a nice facility, very well maintained and quiet. However, the folks at the counter could be a lot friendlier. You would think they work at Motel 6. This was the least friendly of all the places we stayed on the islands of Hawaii. Beautiful grounds and great location. Notice that they do charge a $15 parking fee. He alternative is park on the street. They lo no longer have an off site fitness center.

Room Tip: It is a well secluded hotel.

“Outstanding Hotel in an Outstanding Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

This was me and my wife's first time to Maui, Hawaii for that matter, and we could not have asked for a better location for our inaugural visit!! Every single member of the staff was extremely friendly and very accommodating. The aesthetics of the place were nothing short of amazing, with a backdrop to match, sitting right behind a majestic mountain. The grounds were extremely well kept with well manicured lawns, great pools, lots of gorgeous trees and flowers, and was just overall great to look at. The rooms were more than adequate. We had a one bedroom suite that was very clean, washer and dryer, full kitchen and plenty of essential cookware items. What makes this place truly the gem that it is, next to its looks, is its proximity to Lahaina shops, restaurants, stores, attractions, and beaches. Everything was literally right there, footsteps away from the hotel. It was great to walk around Lahaina all day and take a very short stroll to get back to the room, rest up for a second or two, and head back out. There is so much to do and see. The only reason I didn't rate this place a five was because our room was a gardenview suite, but the view was of the parking lot. Despite that small factor, I absolutely loved everything about the Aina Nalu and would very highly recommend it to anyone visiting Maui. I know my wife and I will definitely be staying here again on our next visit.

“Spacious, Clean, and Peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

It was my first time going to Maui and I went because I was photographing a wedding in Oluwalu Plantation house which is about 10-15 min away from this hotel. My boyfriend, and 2 assistants came and so I needed a 2 bedroom condo that could fit us all.

I'm a bit picky with hotels. I need them to be super clean, not too old, and great location. For the most part, I got that.

The place was clean and very spacious. The kitchen was huge! The showers were simply AMAZING. I never wanted to leave the shower! I loved it so much! Their pool was warm and inviting and peaceful.

Location isn't bad at all. It's near Front street where all the shops and food are. But next time I may want to stay more north near Kaanapali or East near Wailea. There seems more to do around those areas. We're not close to a beach where you can just walk outside and the beach is right there. That's the only downfall.

But it's also not that far to just hop in your car and drive to the beach either.

I saved a lot more by staying in this location.

The service is great too! I asked for a late check out and they worked with me on it. It really helped us enjoy our last day more without feeling rushed.

There is an air condition per room so everyone can control their temperature.

Overall, I wouldn't mind staying here again. It was quiet, spacious, clean, and service was good. Location isn't bad either if you're willing to forego immediate beach access to save more $$$.

Room Tip: There are no elevators so lugging up your luggage would have been hard. Thank goodness I got bottom...
