“A great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

We had a condo like room with full kitchen. We had a view of the ocean and a wonderful breeze if we did not want to use the air. They had a nice washer and dryer in the room. Very clean, comfortable, with a nice size TV to watch in the evening. We did have an issue with loud neighbors and the staff handled it very professionally and exceeded our expectations. Close to attractions in Lahaina but you need a rental car. I was disappointed to find out that they charged $8.95/day for internet/Wi-F-, that I did not like.

Room Tip: Budget $ for to use the internet.

On recommendation of our travel agent we planned to stay at the Outrigger Royal Kuhana, Maui for six nights. We only stayed one night so that we could arrange to get out of there. It is dirty, full of rust and one and half hours away from the airport. You are greeted by a Shell petrol station out front and there is nothing outside other than some small crappy shopping mall and a McDonalds. We would not even rate it one star. There was hair in the sink, rusted stove, dirty room, terrible furniture. Just a nightmare. The photos in their website must have been taken in the 1970s! I would rate it the worst place I have ever stayed at.

Friends booked for us through an agent without much research.
Pros: Hotel is ok, dated but clean, rooms are big and well equipped with full kitchen, washer dryer, everything you could want to make the stay easy.
Location is nice, convenient to lahaina and kaanapali as well as easy to drive north to explore some of the more northern beaches. Beach at the hotel is nice with turtles swimming around galore!
Con: very quiet location felt like a retirement region, and not much to do within walking distance.

Friendly people, nice rooms, lovely landscaping. We have stayed at the Royal Kahana 3 times, and always enjoyed the area. The beach is especially nice. We enjoyed our balcony which had an ocean view. Staff was always friendly and helpful.

My husband and I stayed here for my 30th birthday. This isnt a new building or a high end resort but it was exactly what we wanted. We had a studio room that had an ocean view, I believe it was 604. The room was out dated but very clean. It had a bathroom, washer/dryer, kitchen with a breakfast bar, a king size bed, tv, and a laini with a table and two chairs. We LOVED sitting on the laini and looking out to the ocean. The kitchen was equipped with everything we wanted and needed. Plates, cutting boards, utensils, paper towels, soap, new sponges, bowls, cups, etc. It was nice not having to always eat out and we had a fridge for our left overs. My husband and I would wake up each morning, cook some breakfast, and enjoy the nice breeze by eating outside.

The hotel it self had a tennis court, free parking, pool, spa, and I think a snow cone bar but we didnt get a chance to see what that was about. There was also a concierge but we didnt utilize them because we had our trip planned and my husband use to live on Maui.

House keeping only comes once a week but you can pay extra to have them come whenever you want.

But you cant ask to be closer to the beach. You literally go out the back door, walk 15 ft and bam your feet are in the sand and in 10 feet hit the water!

Really the only disappointing thing was as we were packing up to check out we noticed there was a journal on the dresser. It had everyones entries about why they were in Hawaii and what they were doing and what they loved. I wish I saw it earlier to get great tips on the area! But I added our story really quickly :)

And if you order chinese from the chinese restaurant they were reasonable price compared to other places on the island and get the low mein noodles. They were so good. And the delivery guy even game us $10 off coupon for our next order. It was awesome!

But over all, the staff was nice, the place was clean, we had a great view, the room came with more stuff then we expected, it was well maintained and we were quit happy.

Had a fabulous time while we were there. We even saw a sea turtle floating around from our balcony!

But gave the place 4 stars because it was outdated.

Room Tip: Just get an ocean view. Sitting outside enjoying the sun and hawaii breeze every night was fantastic...

After reading reviews on this place, i was apprehensive about staying here, but when i got here all of that change. When we checked in, to my surprise we were upgraded to an ocean view room. Our room was very nice, with a nice view, all the comforts of home, along with a king size bed, fully equiped Kitchen with washer and dryer, we were happy. Honestly speaking, this is a nice place and exactly what we needed, an inexpensive confortable stay with a great location. To those who are thinking about staying, the burn out gym is being cleaned up, its not an eyesore anymore. the beach is rocky but adequate to swim and snorkel in, there is also a nice pool. I know this is not the Westin, Sherton or Marriott. Its a condominum with individually own units, but it has a nice charm to it. Everything is close by (Shops, Supermarket, Restaurants, Lahaina 15 min away, nice beaches Napali, Kanaapali). You will need a car to get the Royal Kahana because its in West Maui, but the island is small so relax, take your time and explore you are on vacation, you didnt come all this way to stay in your room. Go to the Concierge meeting in morning after your arrival, you could win a tour. We won a dinner cruise. The Concierge also helped us out with booking a couple of tours (Road to Hana, and Snorkelling trip). All in all, the positives about this place outweight the negatives. I will definitely stay here again. The staff was very nice and helpful. A shout out to Tim at the front desk, he gave me some tips on places to go.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floor, has the great views

Yes we are having fun! And don't let the downers who are in Hawaii "not having fun" influence you! How could you be here and not be having a blast, I don't know. Coming back! Reg

Room Tip: I had fun. But I am laid back and OK without maid service. Yes it is true they never showed up. (t...
