My husband and I stayed at the Paki Maui with another couple. We had a 2-bedroom ocean-front suite on the third floor. I believe it was unit 214 (but could be wrong)--I believe the bottom floor is 0, the second floor is 1, etc.
While there are some issues with the Paki Maui, I give it a 4 because of the balance of positives/negatives and the price is really good...
The bad:
*Our unit was fairly dingy and some parts had been updated, but not all. A deep clean and some fresh paint would make a big difference. Replacing the carpet would make a huge difference.
*We stayed in the small bedroom which was not on the ocean side and our bathroom was in the hall and was very small. Not much water pressure in the shower. The layout of the unit is better suited for a family, rather than two couples. But we knew this going in.
*Our unit did not have laundry machines. Coin machines were available, though, but we didn't use them.
The good:
*We had a queen bed which was reasonably comfortable. This is under "good" because many units only have twin beds in the second bedroom, which may be pushed together to make a King (call the property directly to request this when making a reservation), but I rate a proper Queen higher than that.
*The master suite is on the ocean side and has a private lanai. It appeared very spacious. It had a King bed.
*The lanai was fantastic. A great view. Only if you leaned way over your balcony could you spy on other people--so the lanais felt very private. We could see Molokai and Lanai from our lanai. We spent more time there than in the living room. We saw a whale one day, very far from shore.
*It was very quiet (although the constant wind may have drowned out any noise). We didn't see many other people, which is a good thing.
*The courtyard is lush and beautifully landscaped, should you book a garden-view room.
*Daily maid service.
*Great fish shop, Fish Market Maui, across the street to get oven-ready meals.
*Great, friendly, helpful, fair-priced fishing/snorkel/watersports shop across the street, Reel Big Fish.
The neutral:
*I believe most if not all Paki Maui units do not have air conditioning. We found this to be OK, though (in April, low season which is cooler). If you open all the window there is a constant heavy breeze running through the whole condo (trade winds presumably) which makes it very comfortable and definitely cool enough at night (and we like it arctic when we sleep).
