We have stayed here twice, both times with young children. Overall, it would be fair to say that you get what you pay for, but with unbelievably fantastic views. The units are individually owned, and you aren't quite sure what you are going to get in terms of quality. The kitchens are small and cramped but adequate. It does get too hot in the afternoon when the sun pours in the windows, and sleeping at night is difficult because it is hot.

But, imagine staying in a place where you have a hard time falling asleep because of the noise of the ocean crashing on the beach. The view is tremendous. My suggestion is that you go to the store and buy a couple of fans your first day there. Put them in the living room in the afternoon, and move them into your bedroom at night and you will be fine.

The views? Fantastic. The units? They are okay. The staff? Very pleasant and helpful. The parking? Convenient. The location? About 3 miles from one of the best beaches in the world, Ka'anapali. If you have a young family, your kids will be ecstatic. They will think you are the greatest parent in the world that you would take them to a place like this. They won't care that it is a Best Western quality facility because they will love the Ritz Carlton view.

“Will not stay here again”

ResortQuest Paki Maui

Jun 25, 2008

We stayed here while we were in Maui for our honeymoon. Let me start by saying there was no air conditioning! I will admit I probably should have checked this before I booked, but when you're paying so much you just assume the hotel has A/C. I've never stayed in a hotel that didn't have A/C so checking to see if it had A/C never crossed my mind. The hotel is very old, the outside is kept nice but the rooms were old and dingy. Furniture was faded and rooms were humid and stuffy due to no A/C or ventilation system. The only ventilation you have is the window in the bedroom and the doors. The bathroom had no ventilation at all so it was always stuffy in there. The bed was stiff and uncomfortable but we didn't want to sleep on the sofa because it was so dirty. The only hope of relief from heat is the breeze coming through but during midday when its 89 degrees outside and the sun is shining into the room, the only way to cool off is to go somewhere with A/C. The elevators were similar to the rooms, old and stuffy with a strange smell. They rattle and creak as you ride which doesn't inspire confidence.

Management Response

(Management representative)

Aloha ! As the general manager for the units in the ResortQuest rental program here at Paki Maui I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience.

I am sure that having expected A/C it must have been surprising not to have it however the ResortQuest web-site for Paki Maui, as well as our travel partners and other marketing materials all make no mention of A/C. The ownership of Paki Maui as well as the majority of our guests find that the combination of ceiling fans and the cool trade wind breezes here in the Honokowai area of Maui are very comfortable.

Thankfully, your experience with your room as well is not typical of what the guests in the ResortQuest rental program encounter. Each of the units here in Paki Maui are privately owned and as is a point of pride, each unit reflects the tastes of each owner. However, the units in the ResortQuest rental program, while maintaining their individual feel, are evaluated to insure they meet basic unit standards. Daily maid service and on-site maintenance personnel are also provided to all of the units in our program.

We do hope you were otherwise able to enjoy our beautiful interior garden, recently renovated pool, sun deck, jet spa, barbecue pavillion and the stunning views of our neighbor islands, Molokai and Lanai, from our oceanfront lawn.

Once again we do thank you for providing feedback which will be shared with all of our departments and hope that you will give us the opportunity in the future to show you the Aloha Spirit of our staff here at ResortQuest Paki Maui and a memorable stay here on our beautiful island.

“Great ocean front unit!”

ResortQuest Paki Maui

Jun 16, 2008

I chose this condo because it was right at the ocean's edge and I was going to be traveling while still in a leg cast. I figured that since I wouldn't be able to walk on the beach I should at least stay as close as possible. This unit did not disappoint, the views were spectacular! The lanai was perfect for whale watching and somewhat protected so that one could stay outside in rain showers. If you have limited mobility, but want to sit on the beach, the ocean front units would be perfect. It would not even be necessary to leave your unit to experience the sea! The grass area along the edge of the sea wall is also easily accessible if mobility is an issue. It is level and well maintained.

The unit itself was quite dated and in need of furniture and carpet cleaning. The queen size bed in the master bedroom was rock solid and old. Both bathrooms needed a lot of updating and the bathroom in the hall smelled funky. We got over this though since the lanai was outstanding!

I think it would be very disappointing to stay in anything but an ocean front unit here. The garden view is often to the center of the building and not that great, it's not an outdoor garden, more like an atrium...imagine Embassy Suites. The views on the non-ocean side would be over a busy and loud street with buses and trucks. So the mountains may look beautiful, but the noise would be unbearable.

Snorkeling out front is mediocre, but it did serve to keep the kids busy when we were there. The pool and hot tub are hidden behind bushes so you can't enjoy them and watch the ocean. They are also VERY CLOSE to the units at that end of the building and we always felt like we were disturbing people when we were swimming. Something to keep in mind when requesting units, too.

“Great rooms for the price”

ResortQuest Paki Maui

We really enjoyed our stay at the ResortQuest Paki Maui. We booked a studio front and the view was just amazing... I could see the waves crashing on the riff and the palm trees from my pillow - it was amazing. We originally went to Kona and after 3 days we decided to jump to another island. I booked the Paki Maui through Priceline and I was skeptical about the ocean front for such a low price.

It is an old building, it's not the Hilton or Marriott that I usually go to when traveling, but it had everything that we needed. Gorgeous view, friendly staff, clean, good price, and the icing on the cake, it doesn't have that Club Med touristy feel - it's more of a family owned type of place. If you can get pass the furniture and carpet from the 70's, you'll like it!

This is our come back spot going forward.

“Paki Maui is Pretty Good”

ResortQuest Paki Maui

My husband and I stayed at the Paki Maui with another couple. We had a 2-bedroom ocean-front suite on the third floor. I believe it was unit 214 (but could be wrong)--I believe the bottom floor is 0, the second floor is 1, etc.

While there are some issues with the Paki Maui, I give it a 4 because of the balance of positives/negatives and the price is really good...

The bad:
*Our unit was fairly dingy and some parts had been updated, but not all. A deep clean and some fresh paint would make a big difference. Replacing the carpet would make a huge difference.

*We stayed in the small bedroom which was not on the ocean side and our bathroom was in the hall and was very small. Not much water pressure in the shower. The layout of the unit is better suited for a family, rather than two couples. But we knew this going in.

*Our unit did not have laundry machines. Coin machines were available, though, but we didn't use them.

The good:
*We had a queen bed which was reasonably comfortable. This is under "good" because many units only have twin beds in the second bedroom, which may be pushed together to make a King (call the property directly to request this when making a reservation), but I rate a proper Queen higher than that.

*The master suite is on the ocean side and has a private lanai. It appeared very spacious. It had a King bed.

*The lanai was fantastic. A great view. Only if you leaned way over your balcony could you spy on other people--so the lanais felt very private. We could see Molokai and Lanai from our lanai. We spent more time there than in the living room. We saw a whale one day, very far from shore.

*It was very quiet (although the constant wind may have drowned out any noise). We didn't see many other people, which is a good thing.

*The courtyard is lush and beautifully landscaped, should you book a garden-view room.

*Daily maid service.

*Great fish shop, Fish Market Maui, across the street to get oven-ready meals.

*Great, friendly, helpful, fair-priced fishing/snorkel/watersports shop across the street, Reel Big Fish.

The neutral:
*I believe most if not all Paki Maui units do not have air conditioning. We found this to be OK, though (in April, low season which is cooler). If you open all the window there is a constant heavy breeze running through the whole condo (trade winds presumably) which makes it very comfortable and definitely cool enough at night (and we like it arctic when we sleep).
