“A Unique Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We opted for the kayak whale watching and in indeed, we did see whales close up. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, but we felt like it was more than a work out than we had bargained for, and honestly that's our fault, not the owner's...

Mahalo for taking the time to share your experience. We send out 2 strong guides with each trip to make the experience accessible to all ages and fitness levels. Our oldest guest we have paddled with was 92 years young! We are a paddling experience though not a riding experience. What an amazing experience with the whales. We are so pleased you were able to to enjoy a close encounter with the whales! That is unique and very special. We hope to see you again whether on the beach or in a canoe!

“Great fun and excellent up close whales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Yesterday I took the outrigger trip. We were really lucky and saw three whales up close and personal. Our guides Jeffrey and Savar were fun and gave us lots of information about Maui. I would recommend this trip to anyone visiting.

Mahalo for sharing your experience! The trips are always fun but it is particularly awesome during whale season. We are so pleased that you were able to see them up close! We look forward to paddling with you again.

“Outrigger Canoe Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This was by FAR the best thing we did in Maui! Jamie and Mike were our paddle experts and had the best attitudes about life and living it to the fullest. We not only enjoyed the whole paddling, canoe ocean experience but definitely their thoughts and history about Hawaii. If we are blessed enough to be able to return, we would love to go every day. Jamie told us an Hawaiian phrase (holoholo? maybe?) that meant just to go somewhere without lots of expectations and take life as it comes. We just had a wonderful time AND we were even able to see whales up close and listen to them calling and talking to them. The whales were just a happy "extra" - would do it every day without any whales. They know the area, the history, the ocean. They are happy to have whole families so it's not just for adults - very family oriented. We gave them our email address and were happily surprised to find several photos in our inbox when we got home. Fun couple of guys - we don't write many reviews but this one was important to get out there. They all are on outrigger canoe teams and are active in the sport. Just happened to see their umbrella and canoe on the beach so look them up before you go!

“Canoe trip great but expect a lecture”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

This was the second time my husband and I went on a canoe trip with Maui Paddle Sports leaving ffrom the Westin at Kaanapali. The first time in 2012 was great! We enjoyed the canoeing, the scenery, and the tour guides. We should have been satisfied with the one great trip but we decided to try it again in 2013. Again, the canoeing and scenery was great but we struck out on one of the tour guides. After visiting Maui six times over the last few years I have come to have a great respect for the native Hawaiians. I enjoy listening to them as they talk about their ancestors and heritage. We had one native Hawaiian tour guide that was very interesting to listen to. It was obvious that he was proud of his heritage (rightfully so!) He encouraged all of us to respect and take care of his home. We appreciated what he had to say. The other tour guide started lecturing us as soon as we left the shore and didn't stop until we returned. I assumed that he was born and raised on Maui (even though he was Caucasian) and that he had a chip on his shoulder towards the tourists. So I asked him if he had always lived here. Apparently he is from Texas and has only been here 5 years. He also apparently felt it was his duty to lecture us on how the government, tourists, and developers were screwing up the entire island. Any questions I tried to ask were answered with a sarcastic answer. I thought we were going to be taking an enjoyable canoe trip but what I got was an unwanted lecture from a Texas transplant. Again, great canoeing, great scenery, lousy guide.
