My friend and I were looking for something fun and affordable that would take us over to Lana'i where we would have a better chance at seeing dolphins and get in some great snorkeling. This was recommended to us by one of the locals, and it was very appealing to us because of the smaller size of the raft that would hold less people and also be closer to the water compared to some of the larger vessels. Boy, were we glad we went with these guys. Our first trip out we had Captain Tom and Sean as our guide, and they were a hoot! Both were so knowledgeable and Sean was so very personable while Captain Tom steered us to the clearest spots that they could find. We stopped a couple of times, but when the viewing wasn't the greatest, we were onto the next spot. It was great that they were willing to keep on going if the conditions weren't all that they should be. When we finally found a great spot, Sean jumped in the water with us, continuing on with giving us awesome knowledge about the sea creatures that we were spotting down below which I found very interesting. I like to have fun and learn at the same time, so this was perfect for me! On our way back to Maui, we finally spotted the reason we wanted to take a trip out! Dolphins, dolphins, dolphins. They played, splashed, had all kinds of fun all around the boat and Captain Tom didn't just show us and get going, he turned the boat around and followed like a few others were doing so that we could watch and get our fill in. Once we did, we headed to a second snorkel sight back in Lahaina near a collapsed peer. Who knew that this could hold so much amazing sea life! Here we saw not only a wealth of fish, but a bunch of turtles, one of which nearly came up right under me when I wasn't paying attention. And not only turtles, but Sean showed us a reef shark which was seriously the highlight. Knowing we were so close to a real shark but that he wasn't interested in us really calmed my fears down about sharks in the water!
We had so much fun that we went a second time in the same trip, two days apart. We just couldn't get over how cheap it was considering how much fun we had had, not only snorkeling, but with the crew, and on the boat. The raft was seriously amazing. If you get sea sick easily, it might not be for you, but if you like feeling the waves and the wind blowing through your hair and speed, this is definitely the way to go. The second time we went, we went with Captain Leanna and once again Sean as the crew. And again, it was the same knowledgeable type of situation which was great. This time, though, not only did we see dolphins (and we got to ride along beside them for quite some time!) but we also saw a monk seal!!! Apparently they aren't spotted a whole lot, so this was extremely special and he was very neat to watch until he dove down beneath, probably to find some grub or something. It was phenomenal. The waves were a lot more choppy on this second trip, and none of the spots we had looked at on the first trip were very good, so instead our Captain and crew decided to go around towards the other part of Lana'i to the shark fin and light house spot. Getting to see different kinds of sea life here, and different parts of the island were great, and I so much appreciated that Captain Leanna and Sean would go out of their way (they don't usually go to these spots unless its a full day trip, and we were only on a half day) and give us locations that would offer the best viewing.
Honestly, when I go to Maui again, I will definitely be coming back to this tour group. They were fun, friendly, hilarious, knowledgeable, and they really knew what the people on the raft would like and gave nothing but their best to us. It was so appreciated.
