“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here for our Anniversary. It was perfect! The managers Jerimiah & Bobbi were extremely accommodating and took very good care of us. Our requests were met with professionalism and we were treated with kindness. A shout out to Dani too! She was the front desk staff our first morning. To be honest all the staff we encountered were very efficient and most of all friendly & gracious. That included pool staff, bell staff, restaurant staff, coffee shop staff...everyone! The complex is very clean and has all the amenities you need to be comfortable. We stayed in a one bedroom and had everything we needed. The luxury of this property is that you can cook if you wish or otherwise you are in close proximity to amazing restaurants in Lahaina. We noticed lots of families too and it was a treat to watch all the children having so much fun at the pools and on the beach. All in all it was a great trip. We fell in love with Maui and all that Honua Kai has to offer.

A huge thank you to Jerimiah for accommodating us on our last day too! It made the entire trip perfect down to the very last minutes of our stay!

We will be back!

The Honua Kai exceeded all of our expectations! Check-in was a breeze and the valet and front desk staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The rooms are beautiful! My husband and I had a ocean view studio which was just perfect for us. We didn't use the kitchen but it seemed to be well stocked. The beach is a bit rocky but there are plenty of other beaches to pick from on Maui that are a short drive away. We absolutely loved the pools but wished there was an adults only pool. We did notice the wind that others have mentioned but it wasn't a problem at all. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return when we come back to Maui!

I would highly recommend staying here! We stayed in the hotel part. From the staff, to the grounds, to the location, it's just wonderful! The beach has snorkeling reefs so you don't have to go far to find that. The views of Lanai and Molokai are gorgeous. Sunsets from the beach are beautiful! The pools on the grounds are perfect for the size of the property. Plenty of room - lots of choices in where to lay out. They offer something for everyone - between the water slide for the children, the quiet pool for adults, the lazy river, waterfalls into the pool, a larger pool, as well as kiddie pools - everyone is happy lounging, taking in the scenery or being an active part of the water scene. The rooms are gorgeous and clean. I was very happy when I walked in. The folding glass ceiling to floor doors on the lanai are awesome - the ultimate in bringing the outdoors inside (with folding screen doors too). The housekeeping staff was amazing! They were very attentive to detail - they actually loaded up our dishwasher for us - loved that! It was great having a washer and dryer. The Konea building is the quieter building - no problem with noise in either building - just depends on your personal preference on how much foot traffic/activities do you want around you - the activities are held over in the other building including their very healthy market store. A fresh fish market is right near the property as well as a grocery store across the street. Viking grills are readily available on the property and some units have them on their lanais. Perfect distance to Lahaina, Whaler's Village, excellent restaurants, NW scenic drives, Kapalua etc. Duke's on the property is awesome! We tried both their "bar food" and their "fine dining" menus - both times requested to be seated outside with no problem - their food was amazing! Loved hearing the Hawaiian musicians! This made it difficult to leave the property to visit other restaurants. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can see us returning here on our next trip to Maui. It was the best of all worlds!

Room Tip: Get a room with a partial ocean view or higher - you're in Hawaii for the views! I prefer the h...

Used Tripadvisor and some other resources to find Honua Kai and we were so lucky! It's an incredible property that is located well and is just gorgeous. It was our first time on Maui and we would definitely go back to the Honua Kai. The staff was also very nice -- no issues at all and we just went through a travel agency -- not an owner which is also an option.

Room Tip: I would try to avoid the front of the HH tower. There is a sewage treatment plant nearby and if the...

Nice hotel, nice spot, completely let down by apathetic, ignorant, and generally rude staff. And it's a consistent theme, from the front desk staff to the wait staff. I'd note that management haven't responded to many critiques of their hotel in this site, which I think is telling in terms of their attitude towards the customer

I can't even put in to words how amazing our stay was here. We took our whole family and none of us wanted to leave!! I will be going back in the future for sure!! The pools were great, close to the beach, and with Duke's right there, you can have a great meal. We also made meals in our room. It was all around just a great week!! The best vacation we have taken so far!

Spent 8 nights at the Honua Kai just north of Kaanapali Beach and found it to be an outstanding place to vacation. The location was close to everything. The grounds were spacious with several pools and Dukes's restaurant on site. The food was amazing as were the specialty drinks. I would recommend happy hour where drinks are more reasonable. The ribs are a must!!! We booked our 9th floor ocean view through Kay at mauikay.com. She was spot on about the property as well as the room. It was spacious for the 5 of us, very clean and a gorgeous lanai which overlooked the property as well as an ocean view. She also helped us book activities and again was right on the mark.

Room Tip: I would recommend an ocean view room
