“Great place - especially for more than 2 persons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Visited 4/27 to 5/6 with our four adult "kids" - had a three bedroom condo - upscale appliances and finishes in kitchen and baths - great pools and beach - the lanai was incredible - alot of unexpected extras like speakers through the condo that connected to an ipod, computer, tv ,etc. - staff was friendly and helpful

We found this place not by an internet search, but instead stumbling along the beach from our other hotel we were THOUROUGHLY disappointed in! This place will be reviewed after I am done with this review. Since we only stayed here for two nights, I can't really give you super detailed description of the place... But what I can say is that the over all feel of the grounds were perfect for a Maui trip! The room was fantastic! The Entry and lobby were very pleasant as well as the staff! They were all very helpful and friendly. The pool grounds were nice, but more for relaxing and I really did not see a big pool there.
The only negative thing I can think of is three main buildings are far apart from each other, and it can get confusing to enter the right parking lot from the main road as the signs aren’t that big; but I got it down by the time we checked out. LOL.
Bottom line, we will definitely be staying here the next time we come to Maui! The only other place we saw that had a nice beach front was; The Sheraton resort up the road. The 5 star rating comes mostly of the feel of this place when we ate at Dukes one night and listened to guys playing music while we ate and enjoyed our drinks…with the sound of the the waves…the Awesome views from our Awesome balcony! O yes…we’ll be back to Honua Kai!

We booked a 2 bed/2 bath condo on the 6th floor (room 642) and were very pleasantly surprised by the modern appliances and elegant décor. It was great to have almost a house to stay at while in Maui. We loved that we can cook and eat out on the lanai and it was spacious enough for my parents and me and my husband to feel comfortable in. Our view was great as well – partly ocean and partly mountain view. It was also very quiet and peaceful. We definitely didn’t feel like we were in a hotel where we can hear slamming doors and people outside. It was almost perfect but….we had an issue with the in unit washer and dryer. The dryer didn’t work very well. We could only dry maybe 3-4 towels at a time and it took over an hour to that. We were so desperate to dry them since we needed them the next day that we hung them outside on the chairs on the lanai but we got a scolding from management. Apparently, no towels or clothing can be hung out to dry on the lanai. Also, the parking fee wasn’t included in the reservation so when we got there, we had to pay the hotel upfront. I really think if the owners could work something out with the hotel, this would make a more pleasant experience for future customers. Finally, on our last day when we were still packing, the cleaning lady knocks on the door at 10:30am and asks if she can clean the unit. Our check out time is 11am. It’s a bit frustrating when you’re trying to organize and pack and someone is already on your heels. It didn’t lead to a calm exit.

This is a new resort in Lahaina by Interwest from Canada. The apartments are very spacious, clean and modern with all the amenities, including full kitchen. I would definitely return. The only thing I did not like was the 25 dollar per day resort fee. Also, the pools are OK for families with kids but not for couples or adults.

We visited in April and had a wonderful time. We were lucky and had beautiful weather without a lot of tradewind activity. Occasionally the wind really does whistle through there. We had an ocean view room on the 6th floor of the Hokelani tower. It was a great view of the inner courtyard/pool/Duke's/and ocean. We were also lucky enough to still be able to see a lot of whale action from our balcony. The balconies here are a huge plus! They really extend the living space and we had our daily morning coffees, pogs, and toast with guava jelly out there. The Duke's onsite was a big plus - we never had a meal there we didn't like. The pool chair/towel run in the morning was a little annoying, but we always managed to score a spot and we tended to hit the pool early anyway. I will concur with others though - those chairs are SO uncomfortable. Duke's apparently does pool food service at lunch, but I must have always just missed it. I did wish that there was a regular pool service for drinks and snacks. There are a lot of kids at the resort for sure, but we found most of them to be very well-behaved. They did a great job insulating the rooms - we didn't hear much if any noise between rooms and our hallway was very quiet. The market in the lobby was awesome! A bit on the pricey side, but the kids enjoyed the occasional pastry and gelato treat. It was convenient to have items right downstairs. Don't run out of sunscreen while you are there though - they only sell a very high priced specialty brand. We brought several bottles with us, but still managed to run out. I picked up one of the bottles in their water/activity hut and was instantly pounced on as the staff person desperately tried to make a sale. Not sure what that was about - quotas? I don't like a heavy sales pitch so that turned me off for sure. The beach out front is one of the few bummers (if you can call it a bummer). My kids are pretty young and I didn't feel comfortable letting them do much in the water right there. Definitely not a deal breaker though and we'd go back.

Every thing about this place is top notch. I really can't say enough about how great our stay was. The pools were great and had a little of everything for everyone-quiet pool for the adults looking for pure relaxation and more fun kid-friendly pools and even a water slide. The beach and ocean were right there-no driving. The staff was always so kind and everything we asked for was attended to very quickly. I loved that the interior of the rooms was so updated and large and didn't have that dingy, dated feel that a lot of the other resorts in the area seem to have. Not to mention the full kitchen and washer and dryer were so handy! I will definitely be coming back here.

My cousin and I stayed here in November, 2012. We reserved a two-bedroom unit. It had a large living room and nice, fully stocked kitchen and eat-in area. The bedrooms were very large, each with its own bathroom, also large. The beds were extremely comfortable. There were televisions in each bedroom and one in the living room. There was also a washer and dryer in the unit. There was a nice deck with a beautiful view of the ocean. There were several pools. Duke's was the restaurant on site. The food was delicious. The staff was extremely helpful and the valet parking (included) and the attendants were wonderful. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The two bedroom unit was also very quiet. I could not hear anyone in the other room once I closed m...
