I will keep it short and sweet...the resort and grounds are immaculate. I had read reviews about a bad smell but we did not experience this at all (staying in the Konea Tower). Yes the beach has coral, but it was beautiful and we still swam and snorkeled the entire trip. The only iffy thing about the resort was the pool service from Dukes was kinda hit or miss, but being in Hawaii, I couldn't complain!

We booked Honua Kai through VRBO for the last leg of our three-week Maui vacation. While we typically prefer smaller resorts, we were content with our decision to try something a bit different. I will highlight the advantages and minor disadvantages we experienced with this stay.

Advantages:
- New, modern, and clean. We liked that the condo was still "like new" with fresh carpet, furnishings, and fixtures. The nano doors and patio furniture extended the tasteful indoors to the outdoors. The grounds and pool area are well-maintained.
- Location of condo. We rented through VRBO, and we couldn't have been happier with our location! We knew an interior courtyard unit would not suit us well, so we rented a ground floor exterior condo. Because we prefer sunny, southern-exposed lanais, our particular site was perfect. We were able to pull our lounge chairs out on our little lawn and admire the beautiful West Maui mountains.
- Location of resort. Honua Kai begins the stretch of beach we most enjoy. Walking/running/swimming the length to Black Rock (and beyond) is heaven for us. We enjoyed snorkeling just south of the resort. Groceries, fresh fish, and snorkeling equipment rentals are all closeby.
- Dukes.
- Poolside gazebo and cabana rentals. We thought this was well worth the cost, as we were there the eight days following Christmas. It was nice to know that we had some space to share with our family without scrambling for chairs.

Disadvantages:
- Unregulated pool area. The pool attendants allow people to save rows of loungers beginning in the early morning. Almost all the chairs were saved with towels by the time the pool opened. They often remained unoccupied for hours. (Again, we were glad for our cabana rentals.)
- Dysfunctional dryer. The dryer would beep and stop every couple of minutes. Even after repeatedly emptying the condensation resevoir and the lint screen, it would continue to turn off. My friend, who has stayed in several Honua Kai condos, warned me of this. She claims that the dryers have never worked for her at Honua Kai. We ended up draping our towels over chairs to dry in the sun, although this is against their rules. (My brother received a notice on his door when he left some running shoes and a towel sitting out on his lanai.) Unfortunately, we were not entitled to pool towels because we did not rent directly through the resort.
- No cupboard space for groceries. The counter was very small, and it was difficult to find space to store our groceries.

All in all, we were very happy with our accommodations and the atmosphere at Honua Kai. We will definitely consider staying at this property again and will recommend it to our vacationing friends.

Great time was there with 8 of us for ten days. Beautiful resort with amazing pools. We were in the Hokulani 325. View was amazing. Kitchen had everything, blender, panini, two ovens, salad spinner. Closet had sand toys, boogie boards, cooler bag, beach chairs.

It's an apartment with the comfort an apartment has. You have a complete kitchen that it's very helpful with kids. The swimming pools are really nice and my kids loved the water slide. The location is good as you are near Lahaina and near many restaurants.
