“A103 is the best unit on the property!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012

The Hololani Resort is our favorite place to stay when visiting Maui...which we do at least once a year. Although this complex is not the newest or most glitzy, it is the perfect low key, relaxing, island get away! Whether you are a family or enjoying a romantic vacation, the Hololani is perfect. Our favorite unit is A103 as it is on the ground floor, has a comfortable floor plan (two master suites) and you walk right off the lanai onto the grass/beach/pool/bbq area. A103 is unique in that the owners remodeled to include the lanai as part of the inside of the condo, however, the entire front of the condo opens up so you feel like you are right on the beach even when inside. It really is spectacular!

This hotel was a good value from the area. Right on the beach, about 15-20 minutes drive from Lahaina. It is within walking distance from a small shopping center with a couple of restaurants and a convenience store - Maui Brewing Company is there, which has great pizza and beer! The beach immediately in front of the hotel is not really usable - it is a short walk down the beach to better sand and swimming. There are lots of turtles in the water by the hotel though, which were fun to watch from our balcony.

The rooms are clean, but the unit itself was small for our group of 5 - we had 1 master bedroom and an area that could be partitioned off from the living room as a 2nd bedroom. Rooms were clean and had all the amenities. We really enjoyed the balcony - great views for sunset and in the mornings. Our room (and I would assume all of the rooms) did not include air conditioning. The room is set up to get very good airflow if you leave the balony door and windows open. With the fan going, we had a comfortable temperature for most of our stay but may not be great for someone who is sensitive to that. I found it very soothing to wake up to the sound of the waves coming through our balcony door!

The pool is nice and there is a grilling area right next to it for guests to use. Overall, good value and we would return.

We've stayed at the Hololani three times in three different units and were never disappointed. The Hololani is on the ocean and about half way between Kapalua and Lahaina. Lot's of restaurants are within walking distance, though, if you don't feel like having to get in the car and drive up or down the island for dinner. As I mentioned, these condos are ocean front with breathtaking views but the beach itself is small. You only have to walk a short distance along the beach, though, to find a better beach. These are all individually owned condos and some are more updated than others. We've stayed in 203A, 603B and 804B. All were nicely updated and well equiped. Bldg. B is the best one to be in if you want shade on your lanai/balcony. Bldg A has the sun shining on it basically all day. These units are not air conditioned but all are equipted with ceiling fans/and or standing fans. If you go between October and May, you won't even notice it as there are great cross breezes through the condos. The resort is a bit only so there's no spacious lobby with all the glitz but it's a very friendly place to stay. They have a great pool with three nice barbeques and best of all, there is free underground parking! All the units are around 1200 sq. ft with two bedrooms and two baths, and the balconies are huge, which is what makes this place such a great value! We've enjoyed ourselves every time and will keep going back!

Room Tip: when you go online to hololani.com you'll be able to take a tour of all condo the resort manages...

We stayed in untit B-504 for 13 days over Christmas 2011. From the moment we walked in we felt at home. It was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We had everything needed to cook an amazing Christmas dinner for 8. My husband cooked almost every night on the grills by the pool. (They were of commercial quality) We were also impressed with the up keep of the pool area. Every morning we watched them sanitize all the chairs and clean the pool.
The beach in front of the condo is not the best for families with small kids but we seen plenty of families playing in the sand. We loved it because it was not crowed at all. We took long walks in the morning and then just relaxed in the sun for most of our days.
What I liked best about this place is the views from the lanias (we had 2 because we stayed on an end unit) we spent most of evenings watching the whales and the turtles playing in front of the condos. But be aware that there is noise from the waves crashing on the beach that comes with having a condo this close to the water. We got used to it after a couple of days.U

This is a very low key environment perfect for a layed back vacation away from all the people at the big resorts.

Room Tip: Pick an end unit.

If you like sleeping next to a freight train, then by all means book your stay at the Hololani! Between the wind and the street noise, sleep was impossible. We actually left after one night and went to a real resort. That being said, the view of the ocean from the 8th floor was great and the room decor was new and it was clean. They desperately need to upgrade the windows however! The beach is nonexistent and it is NOT a kid friendly location. If you are looking for fun pools and a great beach that is steps away from your room, this is NOT the location for you. We were very disappointed!

Room Tip: Pick a different resort!!!! This is not a resort, just a bunch of condos stacked on top of each oth...

We had a wonderful time at the Hololani back in March, 2011. We flew in the same day as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, but everything was operating normally at the resort by the time we arrived. If you're looking for a fancy resort-like atmosphere with lots of activity and noise, this wouldn't be the place for you, but we much prefer quiet and laid-back accommodations, so this was the perfect place for us! Our room (A301) was gorgeous, with granite countertops, new living room furniture, great appliances, comfortable bedding, etc. The front bedroom was wonderful, with a sliding glass door that we left open all night to hear the ocean, while the back bedroom was HUGE and had a comfy king bed. We were able to watch whales right from our lanai, and also saw giant sea turtles right down the steps by the beach. If I had to name one drawback, that would be that there wasn't much of a beach right in front of our resort, but since we rarely stayed at our condo during the day and instead were doing activities off-site, this wasn't a problem for us. It was also handy to be able to quickly walk to nearby shopping and food, including a convenience store, Senor Frogs for snorkeling equipment, a coffee shop, etc. I would definitely stay at this resort again.

We have stayed in Hololani A202 three times. Whenever someone says to think of your "happy place" or paradise or where you would choose to be if you could be anywhere, it would be here. The unit is spacious and modern. It truly is a home away from home, which is especially important when travelling with children. 2 Bedrooms, 2 full baths and full kitchen with a marvelous large lanai looking out to the ocean. This property is ideally situated to whale watch right from your lanai. We have also watched sea turtles and spotted eagle rays playing feet from the shore-break. The beach is not as spectacular as say, Kapalua or Napili, but both are a super short drive (under 10 minutes). Hololani is in easy driving distance to many wonderful beaches, as well as the action in Lahaina and Kanapaali. Several restaraunts and small shops are within a 5 minute stroll of the property. The complex is quiet and well maintained and has a wonderful (warm), clean pool feet from the beach.
