“A slice of heaven / Unit #35”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2007

I wanted to tell others just how amazing our visit to KV was. My mother and I fell in love with both Unit 35 and the amazing views we were treated to all around the condos. The whale watching from our lanai was fantastic and breathtaking. The rainbows were a thing of dreams it truly was surreal at times to see one touch down directly in front of our condo on the rocks. Everything was beautifully maintained and the flowers abundant and breathtaking.

Unit 35 was wonderfully appointed and we lacked nothing in the kitchen or bathrooms. Having a laundry facility in the unit was a god send as we didn't pack alot of clothes for our 2 week stay. The lanai offered an amazing view of Molokai kept us enthralled.

Every question or advice on the islands many offerings we had were answered quickly and efficiently, which took a huge load off my shoulders once I got there. After months and months of planning, it turned out to be our best vacation ever! We are anxiously awaiting our return, because we now have no desire to go anywhere else!

Vicki is a wonderful and caring person, and saw to our needs and the many other guests there at the same time as us with. Vicki and Mike make this property superior to any others we have stayed at across the Caribbean. They care about the places and don't treat it just like any other job. They invest alot of personal time into the property and guests. It is that personal touch that caught my attention when I was planning the trip. We sing your praises to all that will listen and we look forward to our next visit with great excitement.

“Delightful small condo complex”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2006

Kahana Village was recommended here on TripAdvisor on the Maui forum. I can't tell you how delighted I am that I took the time and followed that advice. Kahana Village is certainly not for everyone, but for me and what I was looking for, it was a perfect fit.

The buildings are all two-story clapboard with one unit down and two up. Most units face due west with a view of Lanai, Molokai and the setting sun. My unit faced northwest. Now, the views from the west facing units are considered superior, but the downside is the heat from the afternoon sun just fries the units. Only unit 6 has central a/c, so you have to rely on cross ventilation for cooling. When you've drawn your drapes to keep out the heat from the sun [and I noticed everyone did exactly that], you can't really open your screened sliders for circulation. Since I was facing northwest, I was able to keep my sliders open all day and the unit was never warm. Also, I took the large 3 bedroom unit downstairs. It was larger than I needed, but was GREAT! The upstairs units have open lanais so you can catch a tan on your own private porch. The lanais upstairs are about half the size of the downstairs ones with a privacy wall between. The downstairs units have at least 2 lanais, though the one off the back bedroom of my unit was so tiny that it barely fit 2 chairs turned sideways. There was a large side porch by the main door with no furniture and the 30 foot oceanfront lanai that held table seating for 8 and 2 nice lounge chairs right outside the master bedroom. The kitchen and baths were very nicely done. There was a large plasma TV in the unit I rented. Mid-stay maid service included changing sheets and collecting towels and such, was provided. The washer and dryer in the unit came supplied with starter packs of Tide. There was dishwashing detergent and other extra supplies for kitchen and baths. Plenty of towels and stuff and my unit had lots of beach gear for guest use, including chairs and coolers.

The grounds were meticulously maintained and smartly designed to provide even more sense of privacy as well as an attractive setting for the units. My one complaint was the pool. Not the size, which I knew in advance was small, but the fact that parents took diapered infants into the pool. I shudder at the thought of the bacteria count that water had. It really seemed more a kiddy pool than adult pool most of the time. And the water wasn't sparkling clear. There was visible 'stuff' in it. A minor complaint, but something to factor in if your planning on actually using the pool.

The gas grills are right out by the pool house and a fair walk from units 32 to 42. Every unit has free internet and free worldwide calling. The internet access was fast and super easy. Bless them for that as I used it every day.

Every Wednesday nite on-site managers Vicki, Jeff and Lisa have a mai tai welcome hour at the pool. It was a nice way to meet other guests.

No question Units #30 and #29 had the best view, but were also the most in demand so they get lots of of wear and tear. My other picks for views would be Units #5, 6, and 19-24 for west facing with the 3 bedroom units having the better views as no privacy panel blocks one direction. Units #31 to 36 have excellent north west views and #37 was exceptionally private. The little property map on the Kahana Village website shows units #37-42 set back less than they actually are. The lanai's were completely behind the 31-36 building. The view to the left was partially blocked by mature plants on the adjoining property [a private home]. The folks in #42 were very pleased with the unit and the view, which far exceeded the usually 'ocean view' quality. In all truth, aside from Unit #1 and 2, maybe 3, all the units had very nice views. Units 1 and 2 were partially blocked by the buildings on the adjacent property, another small group of 2 story condos.

Luxury units are really nice. I had #37 and it looked just like the website photos. Lisa could not have been nicer in helping me select the right unit for me and has my deep appreciation. Vicki arranged for the late checkout I needed without extra charge. When I arrived the DVD player wouldn't work and I reported that the next morning. It was fixed promptly. Using the TV/DVD/Cable box required a bit of thought. I wrote a set of instructions and emailed them to the office so they could print them out for the next guests. Overall, the staff was just great, friendly and helpful.

Shop at the Star Market at the intersection of Lower Honoapiilani Road and 30 and be sure to try Okazuya Deli for takeout. It was one of the very best and least expensive meals I had in Hawaii. Kahana Village gets two thumbs way up.

  • Liked — The unit was exactly as pictured
  • Disliked — the pool was more a 'kiddy' pool than one for the adults
  • Tips/Secrets — Skip the restaurants and get takeout at Okazuya Deli 2 miles away

“Loved Kahana Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2006

6 adult family members and one 15 month old packed our bags and headed out for a highly anticipated vacation to celebrate my Mom's 60th bday. At the end of the trip, when we polled each family member to tell us their "favorite" part of the trip, without hesitation, my father said "the condo" - Unit 6, Kahana Village to be precise.

We checked into condo and were wowed. Couldn't get closer to ocean. Beautiful. Upgraded. Fully stocked with beach chairs, beach mats, beach umbrella, coolers -kitchen had everything you could possibly need. Condo itself had everything we needed and more.

Our ocean front condo was amazing – we started and ended the day perfectly. In the AM, we'd drink coffee and have bfast on the super-sized patio just steps from the ocean. In the evening after a long day of Maui action and activity, we’d have a “sand” picnic around 5.30pm, line up our beach chairs, sunglasses on, cocktails in hand, feet in sand, niece playing – and enjoy sunset. Then, walk just a few short steps back into our unit to shower and get ready for evening.

Unit 6 is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, direct ocean front with A/C. I believe this is one of few units in this complex that has A/C, which was a requirement for us. You can see the actual inside of this unit if you go to Kahana Village's website. We loved it because it was 1) spacious (huge, really) and very user friendly (double vanities in both bathrooms, toilet/shower was locked off from rest of bathroom to make it extremely easy for 4 adults to share the 2nd bathroom, 2) right up against water - couldn't get much closer - I thought best location of all the units hand's down, 3) ground level unit in a small complex that made it easy to take a 15 month old outside to run around in exquisitely manicured grass - or on beach itself, which she loved even more 4) convenient location on island, and 5) highly upgraded with granite slab, wet bar with extra fridge, high end tile and great furnishings. The only downside was it's not a swimming beach - you have to drive to swimming beaches (less than 7 minutes in either direction to Kanapalli, Napili Bay, Kapalua, Fleming) - and an easy 7 mile drive into Lahaina, making access to restaurants along the entire stretch of W. Maui a breeze).

However, there is still a beach steps from your door to plunk down chairs and watch sunsets, and our nice LOVED running around the sand. We all thought it was perfect for our family - we couldn't have imagined staying anywhere else. Hot tub and pool (while not resort-esque) were ocean front - can't go wrong there. We definitely took advantage of the hot tub.

I still miss drinking my AM coffee and eating pineapple on the deck - or taking my book out to the bench by the palm trees and reading in AM sun. Sigh.

“Loved the Kahana Village”

My wife and I recently spent a week in room 21 of the Kahana Village. It appeared to have been recently renovated and had been done very well. The kitchen was equiped with anything you could possibly needed. The grounds were always clean and well maintained. The pool area was always clean and plently of lounging area. Wednesday night was MaiTai night with snacks. Vickie and Paul were very helpful and gracious. The views were outstanding with nature providing beautiful sunsets. Very quiet..... I would recommend this location to anyone.

Thanks Vickie and Paul.

“beautiful grounds”

We just got back from 9 days in Maui and we stayed at Kahana Village. It is beautiful! It is also very conveniently located. We stayed in one of the oceanfront luxury 3 bdrm units and it was lovely. Nicely appointed - well equipped. The complex is quiet and private and you really feel as if you are away from the huslte and bustle at some of the larger complexes. We used the kitchen and outside grills a few nights and that was very convenient - when we didn't want to dress to go out for dinner. Went to a local fishmarket where they marinated the fish for you when you bought it....great deal. Good ono!

Only downsides - it did get hot in the afternoons. Coming in from a day at the beach and getting cleaned up to go out for dinner was diffiicult due to the heat. That was really the only time of day it was really a problem. We had nice winds most of the time, but the bathroom areas really didn't get any breeze, so dressing and doing hair and makeup was troublesome. Only other thing we would want improvement on is the towel situation. Plenty of towels were provided, but a towel exchange would have been nice. Some days, we really didn't have time to wash and dry the pool towels before we needed to use them again. We had to do laundry pretty much every day to deal with the towels. An exchange program would have been nice since all the units seemed to have the same towels. Put so many towels outside your unit and recieve the same type of towel back. Just a suggestion - would have made it feel more like vacation!

I would stay here again. Not sure if I would stay in July or August when heat increases a bit. ALso - it seems the upper units do get quite a bit warmer if our friend's unit was any indication. Not sure I would stay there in June. But do recommend the place - beautiful, peaceful, secluded....beach was a bit seaweed infested -but plenty of nice beaches close by. Definitely get an ocean front so you can get those breezes!
