“Good Choice for Lahaina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

This is a large hotel. I was in a room on the 'cliffs' which was a three elevator trip from the lobby. The 'cliff' rooms are a good choice if you have a car (dedicated car-park), but if you don't have a car, try and get into the main building.

The Tepenyaki Japanese restaurant was very good, and well worth booking. The timing is very specific and the whole table gets escorted in and seated together (so don't be late). The Black Rock conventional restaurant was good quality for all meals.

The location is very good. The scenery is spectacular and there are a few alternative places to eat and shop within a short walking distance along the beach.

The hotel runs a shuttle into the Lahaina which has a great village atmosphere.

Room Tip: The 'cliff' rooms are good if you have a car.

This hotel has a great location and is very quiet. Although a great family resort, it was a quiet and relaxing place. Loved that there was no music at the pool (nowadays, it is great that everyone has their own ipod or music source plugged in to their ears - this allows you to enjoy only the ocean waves).

The staff was helpful and pleasant and we were within a great beach walk and/or sidewalk, if you wish, of Whaler's Village Shopping and great restaurants.

The rooms are large and comfortable with a balcony. Always, clean and quickly attended to when you leave. I might add that the complex houses the famous black rocks on the beach which is quite an attraction for brave diving souls.

While not the newest slickest resort, you can't go wrong staying here for business, leisure, family or couples. Loved it!

Room Tip: Go for an ocean view room....a real bonus in viewing paradise 24 hours a day.

We have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Sheriton Maui.Firstly we loved the hotel and it is definately in the best location with the best grounds on Maui.We upgraded to an ocean view which was well worth it .Staff were good except for front desk-seemed very bored and unhelpful.
The problem which totally marred our experience was the unathorised debiting system used by the hotel .What they do is take the amount you spend on the first full day ,multiply it by the length of your stay and then automatically debit your credit card (the one that you leaves as assurance on arrival ) We had booked an expensive snorkelling trip on day 1 so the amount debited was pretty large .When we noticed this large amount on our credit card statement we approached the front desk .They knew nothing about it .Luckily we followed up the issue before contacting the bank to alert them of fraudulent activity .We finally spoke to someone who confirmed that this was the usual practice and the balance of what we had not sprent would be tranferred back to us after our departure. When asked whether other guests had complained about this she said they had had multiple complaints but management had refused change the practice .
At no stage had we given our permission to debit our account for future costs. We are really appalled by this practice and will follow up with Sheriton. We spoke to another guest ,in a much worse situation .They had used a prepaid card to register and the hotel had deducted all their remaining funds leaving them no other funds for their holiday .The management were totally unsympathetic .They were made a prisoner to the services of the Sheriton as they had no access to other funds !
We will not be staying at the Sheriton again until this matter is resolved

This is one of the best hotels on Maui... it has a great view of the courtyard and ocean. Every night one of the islanders runs the property and lights all the torches... he runs to the top of the Black Rock, lights the last torch and dives in the ocean.... a GREAT view and experience. Maui is one of the most beautiful Islands of the group. ( hard to make a choice )

This woman that I know and her grandson was with me, we were celebrating his 11th birthday and 6 years in remission from Cancer. We pretty much celebrated his birthday every evening... the waiters always took GREAT care of us, especially this boy. They brought him a cake at every evening meal. The last day, the waitress brought out cake for us at breakfast, the chefs and everyone working there.... and got everyone in the restaraunt to sing Happy Birthday to him.
A GREAT EXPERIENCE for him.

Everyone that worked in the Hotel was more that gracious and helpful... they go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one.

We had a GREAT Ocean View room, to watch the sunrise and sunset every day.... it was amazing. I cant say enough good things about this hotel, the property and the people that worked there.

We WILL visit Maui and the Shearaton again.... rest assured.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for an Ocean View Room.

This property is beautifully maintained, and in a great location. Directly on the beach near Black Rock for great snorkeling. We saw turtles, lots of fish, Manta Rays, etc. Great food and atmosphere. Pool was amazing with waterfalls, and a little slide for kids. We had breakfast with a beautiful view of the beach. Within walking distance to Whaler's Village for shopping and dining. Staff are so attentive and friendly. The spa was great. We had a couples massage, and it was fantastic! Ask for Ann here! Our room was clean, beds were comfortable, and had a great view from our balcony. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We had a great view in an Oceanview Deluxe room in the Hale Lahaina building. Very quiet.

Stayed for a week in July. Stayed in Avenue Hale, balcony towards pool/beach, room 3222. View was great! Balcony a good size. They have a small frig in room. The room was nice, nothing super fancy. Beds were OK, not horrible but not fabulous. The grounds were kept up and nice. All the employees were friendly. Used the spa and had a massage. It was average. The price was about the same as any resort. I've had better and I've had worse. There is a Starbucks near the lobby that is open for a few hours in the AM. The Breakfast buffet was included in my package so I ate there most mornings. It was good. Omelet bar, eggs benedict, fruits, pancakes, etc. ... It's overpriced if not in package. Not sure but think it was about $30 pp. I could see $20 if you were to eat a hardy breakfast but over that is a little steep. The dive bar by the pool was nice. They nightly cliff dive is cool. The food is average there. The beach is really nice but keep in mind that it is a public beach. There are no free chairs or umbrellas on the beach. I stopped at Kmart right outside airport on the way to Sheraton and picked up a case of water and sand chairs ($10) for beach. I gave chairs to others when we left. The pool area is typical resort style, people wake up early and save chairs with towels and books. You must have "towel cards" to get towels from the hut. They give them to you when you check in. I think they have some problems with outsiders using their pool. If you want a cabana it costs. The room cost is pricey but it is Maui an the location right next to black rock is great. I also brought my own snorkel -- there is good snorkeling by the black rock. You might want to buy a boogie board and noodle at kmart too if you have kids. They have everything there to rent but it's gonna cost! Nice vacation and would go to Sheraton again.

Fabulous property with nearly every room facility ocean, nice size balcony on each room to enjoy the view. The big difference between here and the Westin Villa Resort = SPACE - while the Westin was tremendously crowded due to the density of the property this was peaceful while sold out and the same amount of people.

Westin Villas = spit of sand between property and beach,

Sheraton was full of sun bathers using the beach swimming in the ocean and the serpentine lay out of the pool with multiple areas to lay out was far superior than the box pool at Westin.

Only downside is the rooms are a bit dated and the bathrooms are old/more Super 8 style - but it is Hawaii and there is no reason to hang in room! Room had a small fridge for storing drinks etc. which is advisable with the cost of a drink pool side $8-$10 each.

Food here not super outstanding which a good to know item

Both SPG Properties = this one is a CAT 5 vs CAT 7 at the Villas, less expensive/nicer and much better value IMHO.

Room Tip: With 85% of the rooms facing the ocean tip = if SPG member book garden view and get upgrade = save a...
