“Magical Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

After the hustle and bustle of Honolulu - we just loved this Resort - in the BEST location on the island. They wanted to upgrade us on check-in to Ocean front - but I had researched it in depth and preferred the location of the Deluxe Ocean view (very quiet with great views of Black Rock). This Resort had everything imaginable and the best Beach of all (which we swam with the turtles daily). Breakfast is best purchased with your accommodation as it is so much cheaper - and very nice food. We managed to go through until dinner every night without having lunch. The beds were so comfortable it was sleeping in a mother's arms. The Whaler Village is a short beach walk for some great shopping and restaurants - or a short Shuttle trip into the town of Laihaina. We didn't venture very far from the Resort at all - and dined each night at different restaurants in the Whaler Village for a change of atmosphere as we ate breakfast each day at the Resort. I highly recommend Leilani's (food and entertainment GREAT). Sunset Luau at Sheraton was great - food was YUM ! The Pool was amazing, but we spent our time swimming at Black Rock. MAHALO SHERATON MAUI :)

Room Tip: Research the room location you want to be in on their website map and remember Ocean Front and Delux...

Bathroom showers old, bathrobes old, towels thin and old, food fair but ridiculous prices at Black Rock. Beach chair situation poor and expensive. Beach towels thin. Too many elevators up and down to get anywhere. Gym has only 4 treadmills. No headsets.Water from a fountain only.
Do not waste your money.

Check-in shabby, the room was not available until 4 pm; friendly attention from the team of bell desk. The Concierge Pool very rude treatment. Proper breakfast with omelet station prepared to taste by a tireless cook. Spectacular exhibition of guy who jumps every afternoon from Pu'u Keka'a. Unbeatable location for snorkeling and whale watching.

This place is not worth the price. My boyfriend and I just came from the Ritz about 10 miles away (we stayed there April 18-21st) and now that we are at the Sheraton I highly regret it. Especially since the Sheraton is slightly more expensive than the Ritz and about 10 times worse and we've only been here 5 hours. The room is nothing special at all and our room smells like mold. What really irked me is the complimentary stuff in the bathroom is clearly used or wasn't changed from the previous guest. The complimentary lotion is not even all the way full to the top and the lid shows wear and tare which leads me to believe its not new or even replaced/replenished properly. Its not like i was going to use the stuff anyway, but the fact its used is disgusting and shocking.

They try and entice you with a free gift and they also leave an annoying salesy type voicemail on the room phone. The pool is over crowded and from what I saw only 1 'whirlpool spa' that maybe fits 6 people comfortable. I also don't understand the $30 resort fee as you don't have access to free chairs and whatnot in the beach and they require you use towel cards? (Wtf kind of resort does that) maybe I am spoiled because the Ritz was so amazing but I am highly disappointed. The staff did not even greet us and the lady who checked us in gave us no info or any sort of direction when arriving. I could literally go on and on about this crappy hotel. Again it is definitely not worth the price and I think that is why I am so disappointed. If I paid 150 a night for this place I'd be happy, but since I paid close to 375 per night I expect to get what I pay for and they are missing the mark.

I will say the one staff member who has been very nice and given 5 star service is Jeff in valet. Also, the beach is very nice with easy access and the general central location of the Sheraton is nice for walking to close shops and checking out the outskirts of other hotels which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of none.

The balcony is very tiny with only one chair to sit on and the toilet seat squeaks and the shower is very small.

Overall don't spend this kind of money if you are expecting over the top service and amenities because the Sheraton is highly lacking in that department.

They said i got and upgrade on the room because of being and SPG gold member but the upgrade came with hairs all over the bed and bathroom. Then when we tried using the beach the hotel charged us for renting basic beach chairs (that is the kind of thing that you don't expect to have to pay when you go to a beach resort that is known for beautiful beaches). The staff was friendly but everything else took away from the experience.
