“Fantastic Hotel but not cheap”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

This hotel has the lot, beautiful pools & water falls & is cleaned to a very high standard. Good food at the on site resistant area, breakfast is very expensive but boy it's good so you pay what you get. Very high spec rooms and the shower was fab, this is sometimes my bug bearer I like a good shower.

The staff are helpful & there are always sun beds available throughout the day.

One warning...... They charge 30 dollars a day for the use of the Internet & for room clean, if you leave a card outside your room daily they give you a 5 dollar credit
card which means they don't have to clean your room, you can save these up to buy/contribute towards a meal on the last day of your stay.

Evening entertainment is non existent so don't expect to be entertained after dinner. The area is s early to bed early to rise resort/island. If you want clubbing song come here but a wonderful stay we had never the less.

Recommended, you won't be disappointed.

It is very attractive location and the building public areas are beautiful and nicely decorated. However, it's the little things: not setting expectations appropriately for staff to respond to requests (the front desk said someone was "on the way already" to meet me in the room. I need to call three times to actually have someone show up); When I first got to the room the phone didn't work and the safe was in the "locked" mode but open -- the maid could have made sure the room was really ready; Only one bathrobe in the room; The doors do not block the sound from the hallway any better than cardboard would. Every conversation in the hallway is part of your experience -- unless you crank up the TV or AC.

Breakfast buffet has a nice selection of fruit, pastries and eggs -- especially the daily egg scramble. And the cheese blintzes are very good. However the pancakes and waffles are just like the doors -- cardboard.

Of course, there is the $30 daily fee which covers breakfast and a towel but does not include a chair on the beach. Nor does it cover the $17/day parking fee.

Internet works fine. And they have a nice business center if you must.

They put a roll-out bed in the rooms for free --- meaning it would be possible to sleep five people if they were friendly enough.

Check out was pretty easy -- and the disputed items were removed.

While staying this trip we did do a couple of really fun activities: Maui Helicopter ride and "Burn'n Love" Elvis show (both have tickets through costco) and Ocean Riders skin diving. All three were great fun!

Lots of good food in the area. About 2 miles clockwise around on 30 is a place called "Momma's Rotisserie Chicken" and a bit further (just before the Ritz) is the "Iron Emu" -- both have great BBQ

Green Features: OK. Offer $5 vouchers for not having room cleaned and had recycling cans around

We took our entire family for the first time to Hawaii and had a wonderful time staying at the Westin Maui Resort. The resort was very clean and the staff was very kind and willing to help out in any way possible. There were plenty of things to do around the resort such as, surfing lessons (which all six of my kids did and loved!!), snorkeling, sitting on their beautiful beach, enjoying their own multi-level pools and water slide, shopping at Whalers Village (right next door), plenty of good restaurants, rent water crafts, golfing, and many more amenities.

I was my pleasure to meet Rada at Honua Kai as an emplyee of Beach Activities of Maui. She was always very pleasant, nice, and helpful. The Westin has a good employee in Rada, and it is Honua Kai's loss to lose her.

Background: we have stayed in Hawaii on average once a year for the last 21 years. On Maui, we have stayed at Royal Lahaina, Makena Resort, Wailaea Marriott, Fairmont Kea Lani. This was our first stay at the Westin (February 14-22 2015). First and foremost, the staff were amazing. Our housekeeping staff, in particular, went out of their way to make our stay memorable in very personal ways. Daily breakfast buffet was the best we have had, I wish I jotted down the name of the amazing lady making omelets she not only created great food, she managed to create them faster and for more people than anyone I have ever seen - she was great! The concierge was very helpful, and this hotel has more concierge desks than I have seen anywhere else and the valet team was very responsive and friendly. When you get back late to the hotel the self-park is full, so you have to valet, but they are super great about it.
We booked a ocean view through a tour package company, got upgraded to "deluxe" ocean view in the beach tower. The room was nice, great view, very comfortable bed and in general we were very satisfied. These are not the "fanciest" rooms on the island, but definitely plenty of space and could see whales from our balcony. The hotel location is great, busy because it is right next to the mall, but the hotel grounds themselves did not feel crowded. Lots of beach to walk on, evening sunset cruises that leave from the beach, and nice proximity to Lahaina.

We were apprehensive seeing some of the not great reviews for this place, but we were very happy with our choice in this property and we will stay here again.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room, don't skimp.

This was our first time to Maui, and my husband being a life loyal Starwood traveler locks us into of the two Starwood properties on the island. From our pre-trip research, we learned that the Westin Maui was right on a good beach, had recently renovated rooms, and easy access to Whaler's village and other hotels/restaurants which were all true. We also really enjoyed seeing and interacting with all the birds on property. However, that was about the most positive things we could say about the hotel. The rest of the experience was just a disorganized mess.

We arrive at the resort a little after 5pm on a Thursday and found a line of 5 or 6 people in front of us. Despite having status and being able to use the shorter preferred guest line, total time from arrive to checking in was about 30 minutes. Needless to say, non-preferred guests have an even longer check-in wait. It turns out that the line wasn't due to our checkin time as during our entire stay, there was always a line at the checkin desk regardless of what time we walked by. We also found that the lady checking us didn't set our keycards up properly and was rather reticent about providing basic information.

1. Free parking is included as part of the resort fee. She failed to mention that the room key is the what guests use to access the parking lot and did not activate our key cards for the parking lot. We had to go back to the checkin desk (and wait in line again) to have our key cards activated for parking. On the topic of parking, "free parking" is a joke. There are not enough spaces, and if you arrive at back at the resort after 6 pm, the lot is full and has to be left with the valet. Getting the car from the valet is also a pain because there are too many cars in front of the hotel and it's easy to get boxed in and not be able to get out for 10-15 minutes.

2. We had a breakfast included with our stay. She told us breakfast ended at 10am, but failed to mention that it ended at 11am on weekends. On the topic of breakfast, breakfast at the Westin is a mess. One of the days we were there, there were about 5 parties in front of us who had already gone through the 15-20 line to put their names down only to have to wait another 15-20 minutes to be seated while about 1/4 of the tables were empty. This waiting situation didn't sit well with all guests at the Westin and we had an entitled couple cut in front of us in line and when taken to their shaded, ocean view table, demanded to be seated elsewhere closer to the buffet. This same entitled couple would cut in front of different people at the buffet.

3. Also as part of your resort fee, you do get a Westin shopping bag which you need to pick up from concierge which we only found out about after going to the concierge for a different reason. And like everything else, there was often a line at the concierge, probably because they were spending so much time upselling their vacation homes.

4. Our stay was booked with a combination of cash and points which looks like two bookings in the system, but can be linked. We were provided two sets of keycards at checkin - one for the cash part of the stay and one for the points part of the stay. Halfway through our trip, turns out the second set of keycards provided upfront didn't work. We had to go back to the checkin desk (and wait in line) to get another set of keycards.

5. Certain bookings provided VIP benefits which we qualified for. There was a VIP sticker on our key cards that wasn't explained to us. When we were back at the checkin desk, another guy handed us a printed out sheet explaining all the VIP benefits (which includes things like access to the sauna and spa). Wouldn't it have made sense for her to have given that to us up front?

In general, it seems the Westin cannot operationally handle the amount of guests that go through there. There was always a wait for elevators and rarely did we not have someone else on the elevator with us. In addition, one of the elevators was out of service at times. Finding space on the beach in front of the hotel was also difficult.

Also, as much as I am for the Westin's environmentally friendly practices, I wish choosing the "green option" didn't mean a complete absence of housekeeping. There really needs to be an easier way to get a refill on soap and shampoo.

If we go back to Maui, I will try very hard to convince my husband to stay at something other than a Starwood property for once.

Maui is one Of My favorite places with all the luxuos feeling in combination with the beauty Of the nature!! You have it all! It is a great place to return to over and over against! The Westin on the Kanaapali Beach is a comfortable, nice hotel with a great spa! Location is perfect and you do not need to have a rentav car even though I recommend IT! The rooms are well furnished and I Love the beds! You sleep so well!! And the long beach just outside is wonderful! This place on earth give you every opportuniity to have a adventures vacation with diving, sailing , rafting and lots more... Or you can just relax! IT is your choice! You can choose between really expensive restaurants or maybe McDonald's! But again I recommend a rentav car to really be able to see other parts Of this wonderful island! Maybe a tour up to Hana Will make your day!! But I will go there again and again!!

Room Tip: If you have the possibility choose a room with a see-view!!! If you Will visit during dec-jan you ca...
