“Great hotel, but a few areas need to be addressed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

After a long day of travel from Philly, we finally arrived at the Westing Maui. At checkin we were told the room we reserved (a king bed) was not available and we had to take a a double....great way to start a honeymoon. We we're told we could try and see if a king was available the next day or they would waive the resort fee for 5 of the 9 days. A king did become available, the next day which became available at 3pm. It would have been nice to have the resort fee waived for the night but oh well. Bellmen moved our luggage for us which was a nice touch along with a bottle of wine.

As other reviews say do not expect an upgrade. And do yourself a favor pay for the ocean view. If not you will get a great view of a loud parking lot and roosters that wake you up at 4am...lovely. My next complaint is parking. Unless you have a smart car just pay for valet. The spots are so small any convertible or full size car is near impossible to fit. To make matters worse since the lot is so small valet double parks all cars in on the left side of each row. It's was not pleasant to wake up at 3am to go up the volcano only to wait 20 mins for a valet guy to move the car that parked you in.

My only other gripe is the luau. Try another one this was very disappointing. Very untraditional and left out some key points of a luau...pig roast etc

HOWEVER this hotel has amazing grounds, top notch service, and a ton of great amenities. Huge pools with water falls are everywhere you look, 100 yards from front desk to ocean, and whalers village is right around the corner. All the outlets are great, and take advantage of happy hour. The staff was top tier, and the hospitality suite was great for those with a late flight on check out. You can squeeze in every last bit of Hawaii, breakfast buffet was great!! Food always hot and fresh.

I would no doubt return to the Westin Maui on a return trip, memories will last a lifetime!!

Room Tip: Mountain facing rooms are facing the parking lot which can be very loud.

This was our first trip to Maui and although we always stay at the Westin Moana Surfrider in Honolulu we really looked hard at other resorts before deciding on the Westin at Kaanapali. The resort is great and the beach access can't be beaten. 100 yards from where you have breakfast and you're on the sand and swimming. Heaps of pool options including an adult pool but to be honest we booked a 2 bed cabana on the beach most days. Yes, they charge you $55 for a full day or $35 for a half day but the beds are soft, you can pull the canopy up if it gets too hot and the fill you full of water and fresh pineapple all day! Its a holiday for heavens sake. I see other people complain about the food and drink prices but we found it what we expected for a resort in remote Hawaii. Most days my wife had oatmeal and a coffee from the Collonnade Cafe which was I think around $10. We only had the buffet once but went to Gazebo and other places just for variety. Whalers Village is right next door with a great variety of places to eat and reasonable shopping. I think most people who stayed seemed to hire a car and whether you self park or they valet it for you when its full its no cost, hassle or issue at all. With the car you have heaps of options to eat in Lahaina like Fu Lin, Star Noodle etc etc. We had a deal on a Mountain View room which was great. Spacious, great shower and that great Westin Heavenly Bed. We even attended the Luau which was great value, sensational food and a really entertaining show. All in all we had a great 10 days with the only drama being Hurricane Ana which really didn't eventuate but the staff were great in the lead up in case it turned nasty. If you're a party animal, this side of the island is not a hot spot but I think this is true for all of Maui. Special mention to Tammy who worked the beach and had only been there for 2 weeks but went way beyond great service. Also to Toni in the booking and activities area who was a great and honest recommender of things to do and where to eat as well as how to get there.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed fine.

My husband and I stayed in early October for seven nights celebrating our honeymoon. I used bookit.com to secure our reservation which included a rental car and free breakfast at the hotel for two. We arrived and parked, went to check it and were told that there were no available upgrades, which was disappointing, because when we had booked it said that honeymooners were given a complimentary upgrade (based on availability, of course). That being said, if you want an ocean view, it is probably the best idea to just book an ocean view, but I had opted to book a standard room hoping for an upgrade. The first room we were given was on the second floor, overlooking the parking lot, and directly beside the ice machine. My heart sunk as I worried this may be the beginning to a very long week! We did not even bring up our bags and went down to the reservation desk to try and work something out. We had a different employee than when we first checked in, and I explained that there had to be another room available other than the one they had given us. He secured us a room right near the elevators/stairwell, but no ice machine! It was on the sixth floor and had a partial ocean view, much better than the room before!

Sheets were dirty when we arrived in the room, but housekeeping was sent right up AND the manager waived our $30 a day resort fee for the entirety of our stay. Very unexpected but was a great bonus as we were a little put off by the whole experience up to that point.

After that, the stay was absolutely wonderful. We were not expecting much for the free breakfast buffet but let me tell you, it was SO GOOD. I am not easy to please when it comes to breakfast in general, but there were so many options and everything tasted great. Extremely fresh. Omelet bar was delish.

Relish, the little pool bar restaurant was also very very good. Happy hour is everyday from 3-5 great food special prices and yummy drinks also. Room was nice, spacious and updated. Bed was very comfortable.

Pool was nice, although the adult pool was dirty in the afternoons due to sunblocks/oils.

Beach was nice, water was a little rough but beautiful sunset views. Close to whalers village and many food choices. Also relatively close to Lahaina. We went back and forth on whether to stay in Wailea or Kaanapali, and we were very happy we chose the Westin. Though Wailea is nice, it didn't feel as "Hawaii" as Kaanapali and Lahaina did.

Room Tip: Book the room you want to stay in! Do not count on upgrades as this hotel stays pretty full it seems...

We stayed ay the Westin Resort Oct 9-17. Our stay started off rocky when the front desk could not find our reservation! After waiting several hours and a conversation with the manager, our room was assigned and our vacation began. The room was in the beach tower and was very comfortable. The hallways and room appeared to have new carpet and paint/wallpaper. The bathroom was definitely fine but could use a freshing up when compared to their newly remodeled rooms in the ocean tower.

The onsite restaurant was very good and offered a variety of food. Various happy hours at different places and times so do pay attention if that is what you are looking for.

The pool complex is awesome! We traveled as a couple so we spent all of our time at the adult pool. Very nice and relaxing. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. We loved being able to move from our chairs to the beach then up to the adult bar and back to our chairs without issue. We were given wristbands daily and management was looking for them. Chairs were never a problem for us.

Yes, the family area of the pool was more crowded during the weekend but nothing a family wouldn't be prepared to handle. I don't recommend that a couple on their honeymoon attempt to have quiet time in this area of the pool complex so be smart about it!

This resort is on a very nice part of Kaanapali beach. Other areas had rough breaks and no sand. In front of the Westin the beach is beautiful.

Whalers Village is right next door. Easy access to shopping and dining. The buses provided by the hotel were clean and comfortable. They make it safe and easy to sound their properties or to go into LaHaina.

We looked at other hotels on this beach and found no other place as pretty as the Westin. It had everything we were looking for and then some.

Room Tip: Ask for an even numbered room to ensure an ocean view.

Our family (there were 10 of us!) planned our trip to Maui and the Westin was the perfect resort to host us all. There are only two kiddos in the family - the rest adults and the Westin was so accommodating to us all. We had fantastic ocean view rooms and the resort had so many wonderful amenities and extras such as the awesome pools (waterside!), restaurants, birds, great beach cabanas and of course some great restaurants. We rented the Cabana by the pool so the whole family had a place to meet up and relax. We ordered drinks and food pretty much every day and the staff was all extremely helpful and had wonderful customer service.
The rooms were very spacious and updated with great bathrooms. I personally didn't like the bed so much - was a little hard for me but my husband said it was fine. We ordered room service for breakfast one morning and they brought up a table and put it out on our balcony so we could eat overlooking the beach. It was great!
The grounds are fantastic and there is such a feeling of relaxation and luxury. The breakfast buffet was great and it was nice to eat waterside in the morning. Very peaceful. The location is great right next to Whaler's village and black rock which had amazing snorkeling. Lots of turtles! The beach right in front of the hotel was great too - not rocky.
This is a wonderful family resort. When we have kids - I'd like to bring them back here. I think it would even be a great romantic getaway - but might not be as quiet. Our parents had the ocean suites and they were incredible! I think they had 6 balconies! Overall a great resort and a wonderful place to spend your vacation in Maui

Room Tip: Room 713 was perfect for an ocean view.

I have stayed at the Westin Maui Resort at least 10 times over the past 10 years. As soon as we enter the driveway, it feels like home. I can honestly say that their staff training is quite good, no business is perfect. Visiting Maui from the mainland, one expects the "Aloha spirit" when they enter a business establishment. The Westin definitely fits that definition. I have been fortunate enough for many of these visits to have been greeted by Rebecca G., who I understand has been at the front desk 14 years for the Westin. She best exemplies someone that has that Aloha spirit with her smile and happy disposition. I will continue to stay at the Westin for the next 10 years. Aloha.

Room Tip: Ask for the ocean view, as high up as possible.

Green Features: I was impressed with the efforts the Westin put in to recycle as much as they could.
