“Westin Maui Resort & Spa - November 25 - Dec 1, 2012 - A Decent Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa from November 25th - December 1, 2012. We had read numerous reviews before our arrival and found they were very accurate. The lobby area is spectular with ponds, waterfalls, etc. The check in procedure went very quickly and we had a room on the 5th floor facing the pool area and ocean (it was a nice ocean view room). However, the room WAS small. To use the safe and refrigerator you had to get down on your knees (as they were located on the floor level). The heavenly bed was/is wonderful - and meets all the hype it has received. The room was clean when we arrived and housekeeping throughout our stay was excellent (we did leave a few dollars each day on the pillows for the housekeepers). The restaurants are OK - but be prepared for HI pricing (fairly high). The do have one excellent morning/early afternoon "take out" restaurant (the Colonnade Cafe) that offers Starbucks coffee and a few morning food treats (they have complimentary papers there as well). The resort provides excellent access to the beach areas and is located very close to Whaler's Village (great for the stores and restaurants located there). A few additional cons: There is extremely limited self parking. At the business center the "resort fee" covers ONLY 15 minutes of internet service daily (and be careful, the day means exactly 24 hours). After the 15 minutes there is a charge of $5.95 for each additional 15 minutes - or any part thereof. The concierge we spoke to said that if we didn't use the whole 15 minutes in a day and had signed off, we could come back and use the remainder later in that day. That was inaccurate information which we discovered, as once signed out the system starts a new 15 minute session when one signs back in. The check out took some time. When we left on December 1st, at approximately 11AM there was only one clerk servicing those of us waiting to check out. It took awhile before we moved up in the line. When we reviewed the bill we found a minor error (related to the internet charges). After investigation (some computer work) the clerk removed the inaccurate charges. There is a balance between the pros and cons - just be prepared.

Room Tip: Be careful where construction is ongoing. Also, when facing the ocean (either ocean view or ocean f...

“Hawaii Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Just back from a long overdue and fantastic vacation - our fourth time to Maui and first time at Westin - and we will be back. Great room with ocean view and daily sunsets - very welcoming and helpful staff - FANTASTIC pool complex and the waiters around the pool really kept up with our needs. The beach is the best on Maui - Love the hotel location - close to the town of Lahaina and walking next door to the great Whaler's Village complex for shopping, restaurants and bars for close by options. Really enjoyed our experience here and will be back for Maui trip #5!

Room Tip: Splurge on the Ocean view - worth it.

“Great hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

My fiancé and I stayed here for a week at the end of a long trip and had the most relaxing time! We did have to change rooms a few times as it was so noisy on the mountain facing side- when I asked if I could pay money to move over to an ocean facing room they ignored me and placed us in another noisy room- we had to move 3 times but by the last time we were stoked!
Overall the experience was lovely the staff were generally great and the adult pool was heaven!! The beach at sunset was the absolute highlight!!
I highly recommend you ask for a quiet ocean facing room and pay the extra money when booking!

“Maui Trip gone bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

My daughter and I arrived on 11/17 for a trip to Maui but also for the Maui Invitiational. Check in was through our group which was a very rushed process.
The daily cleaning service was very limited as dirty glasses were left throughout our stay and a room service tray was not removed at all. They made the bed and left the tray on the clean bed linens.
Multiple times I had to go back down and get keys that would work and one night it took three trips down.
Our last day there we were asked to move from the bar area due to dinner set up and the restaurant was not full at that time (4:30 PM).
I didnt choose this property but will not go back.
This was my 6th trip to Maui and typically stay in Wailea and the service and quality is top notch there.

Mahalo for your candid review. Please accept our sincere apologies for not providing you with a renewing Westin experience. By no means did we intend to disappoint as we truly strive to create positive and lasting memories for our guests. We are concerned about the events you mentioned and have shared them with our management team for improvements as clearly this not representative of our standards. Again, we sincerely apologize and thank you for this opportunity to enhance our services. We do wish to welcome you and your wonderful family back in the future. Aloha!

“Very Renewing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

My partner and I stayed for a long Thanksgiving vacation November 22, 2012 - November 28, 2012. Upon check in we were greated with shell leis and didn't have to wait but a few minutes for a check in agent. We were upgraded to the Beach Tower with an ocean view. The room was very large, so was the bathroom, with dual vanities. I assume this is a newer, upgraded tower because the room and goods in the room were very modern.
The pool area looked fun, but we didn't use it very often, as we prefer the beach. You can turn in towel keys for beach towels and take them for the day, as we enjoyed going to the quieter, secluded beaches, dozens within 20 minutes of the resort (head north on 30). We even rented snorkel gear for $15 per day and took this with us. The beach at the resort was very nice, and not crowded at all. The pools were way more crowded.
We dined at On'O and Tropica twice, as well as the Beach Bar. We had dinner at Sheraton as well and were able to charge this to our room. Whaler's Village is next door with several shops and restaurants to choose from. Lahaina is a short 5 - 10 minute drive south with several dining and shopping options on Front Street. Our favorite meal was at Merriman's in Kapalua...make reservations and make sure you're there for the sunset!
We also went to Wailele, the hotel's Luau. It was all you can eat and drink, well worth it with an awesome fire dance.
The staff was very friendly and all seemed like they were having fun while on the job. We can't wait to go back to The Westin.

Room Tip: Book a room in the Beach Tower
