Currently at the newly remodeled Ritz. Will post pictures upon my departure.
The rooms are amazing. This property has done a great job in satisfying the older Ritz-Carlton guest that has been with them for years while making it feel more modern with a more modern flair and new technology in the rooms to attract a younger crowd like myself.
Upon check-in we were asked to verify our rate. When the rate was $250/night higher then our confirmation we were asked to show our confirmation which I did. I thought that would be it. The next moring we had a message on our hotel phone asking us to again provide the front desk with a copy of our confirmation in order to prove our rate. I took great offense to the fact that the Ritz asked me to "prove my rate." It was squared away after that.
We reserved an ocean view room in the honeymoon package which included complimentary valet, resort fee, $200 food/bev credit, champaigne, photo albumn, etc. We were upgraded to a "Residential Suite." This is the way to go. These suites are 850 s.f. with a kitchen, living room, large bedroom and large bath. The kitchen has an awesome huge eat around granite bar top, approximately 6'4'. It is really awesome. Suite features Sub Zero pull out drawer dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer. It was very nice to bring your own food and drinks to your room. Suprisingly, many guests had their own food and drinks at the bar and the resort had no issue with it. We saved a ton by doing this. I would highly recommend anyone looking at a regular room to compare the price for the Residential Suite. You will likely save the price difference plus more in the savings of food and drinks.
Recent posts have mentioned loud noises at the pool due to construction. All of the construction appears to be gone as we didn't have any construction noise during our stay which started on Feb 22.
Housekeeping is not up to par with a Ritz. The coffee pot was not cleaned for 4 days. The shower door (as previous poster mentioned) appeared like it had not been cleaned in months. I just got the feel that the did a quick cleaning by fluffing pillows, etc. Amenities were not consistently replinished daily.
The Spa will not be in its own facility until mid May 2008. Currently they are on the 9th floor of the hotel. Currently there is not access to steam or sauna. The services are provided in empty hotel rooms. Since much of the spa experience is the atmosphere and ability to use steam and sauna I felt as if the spa should have offered a discount on services until they open their new facility. I scheduled the Men's package for $395 which included a 50 minute massage, a 30 minute peppermint scalp and foot massage at the same time with two therapists, and a facial. When the schalp massage started the foot massage therapist didn't show up. When I went to check out it was on my bill. I brought it to their attention and the clerk asked if I wanted it removed from my bill. Of course I did! He said there was a schedulding conflict. Poor excuse. I brought it to the GM's attention and they comp'd the entire service as well as offered a complimentary massage to my partner and me. I was satisfied with this.
I have stayed at the Four Season in Maui previously. The Four Seasons is smaller and seems to be more friendly. The Ritz is a much larger property and you don't get the personalized service that we did at the four Seasons.
Overall, I liked the property, however, will likely go back to the Four Seasons next year since they have just remodeled their rooms also. I would say a solid 4 starts but not up to the service the Ritz Carlton is known for.
