“Gem of Napili Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

I can't say enough about Napili Sunset! My family and I were graced with staying there in 2011 and loved it so much we returned in January 2012. We have stayed at 3 other properties on Napili Bay, so I feel I can make a clear comparison. Napili Sunset is extremely clean and the housekeepers are "over the top" in making sure you have everything you need, every day! The administrative office staff are the best. I had to adjust our reservation several times, and the patience I received on the other end of the phone line was sincere. Frederick manages the reservations in a true and kind, professional manner, along with the rest of the office staff. We were fortunate to be able to stay in three different styles of rooms. The one bedroom ocean fronts are awesome. You really can't get much closer to the beach. You don't even have to leave your lanai to see whales, sea turtles and the magnificent sunsets. When our family expanded we moved into an upstairs two bedroom unit that was beyond spectacular. The view was outstanding, the unit was spacious, clean and beautiful. When our family downsized, and there were only two of us, we stayed in a pool side studio. Again, another beautiful room. Surprisingly, the kitchens in all units (big or small) are fully equipped with everything you need including a garlic press! They even supplied us with a rice cooker upon request! They have at least three barbecue areas that are well kept, clean and "user friendly". The laundry area is convenient and inexpensive. I believe they even offer free laundry soap. We never had an issue with parking even when we were there at a peak time in their season. Napili Sunset makes you feel special. Upon your arrival, you will be surprised to see your name on their bulletin board, welcoming you. They hand out a nice light-weight blue cloth bag with their logo on it, for you to keep when you get your room keys and beach towels. The beach towels are very soft and thick and they are ready to swap them out any time you need fresh ones. I could go on and on, as this property and the people who work there, have left a lasting impression on me and my ohana (family). After staying at the other properties on Napili Bay (and there are some nice ones), we really don't want to be anywhere else but the Napili Sunset. Why would you?

My sister and I just returned from a 3 week stay at the Napili Sunset. It is located in the center of Napili Bay and the best location on the Bay! We saw large turtles, a monk seal, manta rays, and spinner dolphins from our lanai. The sunsets are gorgeous, with the sun setting between the islands of Lanai and Molokai...got some great photos. It's a beautiful location for a wedding (we saw a few) and just a place to relax and unwind. The kitchens are fully equipped and there are barbeques for all to use and we never had to go out to dinner. Eating dinner on the lanai at sunet is so perfect. The hotel staff are very pleasant and courteous and will take care of any need you might have. The maid service and clean rooms are just excellent! I will continue to return to the Napili Sunset ever year for my vacations...it is Heaven on earth!!

Room Tip: I prefer the upper level rooms for more privacy and a better view of the bay.

Love Napaili Sunset....but be warned that remodeling is going on. We have not had a problem with noise but are not near the work. Only complaint is that 2 different mornings the trash truck has come by at 7:15am and picked up the large dumpsters....no sleeping in on those days! Condos are dated but clean and a good value on a beautiful bay. There isno air conditioning in the units but the ceiling fans have kept us cool at night. Staff is friendly. We will be back!

This was our 2nd year, and we booked for next year.....Yes September is "remodel" month for them, but we didn't really have a problem. We were downstairs unit 123, 2 bed/2 bath, divided by 4 equaled $99 per night! We love the cove, the views and the hospitality. It's out of the way, you don't have to walk 10 minutes take elevators and walk through booths of hawkers just to get down to the beach...it is right there. The remolded units are great, furnished with everything you need plus daily maid service. The views are amazing, you can walk to the little market, rent equipment there if needed, walk to many restaurants or boutiques. It is perfect for us and well kept. You can swim with the turtles in the cove on a daily basis! There is always a light trade wind that keeps the humidity down. We just love this place!

Room Tip: Downstairs, so you don't have to climb stairs. The laundry room has umbrellas & play stuff f...

We just returned while visiting from Sydney. If you are looking for somewhere plush, this isn't it, however if you want something with charm and all the necessities, check it out. We had an upstairs room which was lovely. The kitchen is fully equiped, the lounge room very large and the bed was comfortable. The main rooms had ceiling fans, which was all that was needed as the ocean breezes came through the apartment. They even supplied candles for our balcony table and complimentary beach bags. Nearby is a grocery/liquor store, masseuse, great restaurant on the beach and a snorkel/dive shop. A regular bus service can take you into the main town and Whalers Village. The communal BBQ is great for meeting other travellers and enjoying a drink while watching the amazing sunsets.

Thanks Napili. We will definately be back.

Room Tip: Book a room facing the beach. Upstairs or downstairs are both excellent.

Napili Sunset delivered again on our expectations. We had a lovely unit, # 114, one bedroom lower level with a spacious lanai and the lawn in front, shared with excellent and friendly neighbors up and down the lounge-chair area and on the beach. The sound and sight of the ocean always at hand, we enjoy having the kitchen and spacious living room as well as the comfortable king bed in the back, with a breeze flowing through and birdsong every morning. The weather cooperated perfectly, the snorkeling was excellent, and the calm, clear turquoise water was amazing, day after day.

One area where the state of Hawaii has made great strides is the smoke-free hotel ordinance. Now, if they could just join the city of San Diego and ban smoking on the beaches, that would be awesome. Fortunately, there wasn't too much of the latter, but there was some, and always, the butts left in the sand. This is every beach we visited, not just Napili Bay.

Management and housekeeping at Napili Sunset are as friendly and efficient as ever. We had no problems and were supplied with extra bath towels as needed. People who snorkel three times a day tend to need to shower more often, but there were plenty of hooks and bars to hang the towels on to dry so we could re-use them. Parking was adequate and readily available.

High grocery prices are always present in the islands, but this trip we took advantage of the Farmers Market store in Honokawai. Napili Sunset hands you a flyer for this shop at check-in, and it has a pineapple coupon. We found better and less expensive (and organic) produce at this market. By contrast, the prices at the roadside stand at Olowalu will make your hair stand on end. We also bought delicious fish to grill at the condo.

We have stayed at half a dozen hotels and condos on Maui, and this was our fourth visit to Napili Sunset. It is hands down the winner in our book. There isn't any other place we've been that has this proximity to the ocean, as well as convenient location on the island and all the amenities we like: outdoor showers, grill, chaises, and of course the laundry room with its supply of beach chairs, coolers, and floats, noodles, and boogie boards to borrow. We bring our own gear, but Snorkel Bob's is across the road next to the Napili General Store, which is also handy for supplies.

And of course, there are the sunsets. Spectacular. Convivial, with fellow condo-dwellers out on the lawn having social hour and the last swimmers still playing in the ocean below. The grill gets fired up and tasty dinners are prepared, which are then enjoyed on lanais.

Room Tip: We like the ground floor so we can walk from our lanai to the lawn and to the beach; 2nd floor units...

Twenty-four years ago we strayed at this location to surprise my mother-in-law. She is now no longer with us, but she has left us this little gift. If you are not the ritzy place type, like to be a few feet away from the water and do your own cooking, this is the place. Service is excellent and the room always kept nice and clean. The kitchen is equipped with all one needs for some serious cooking (sorry, no gas stove) and the common BBQ is perfect. A small, friendly market is a few steps away if you forgot something. Internet connectivity was excellent and our Netflix worked just fine. There is excellent swimming right in front of the place and a good hiking trail within walking distance. Just bring your books, flip flops and swimming gear!
