“Heaven on Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

We stayed here twice in the 1990's but have strayed to other properties over the last 10 years or so. On our most recent trip to Maui we booked a room at a Kaanapali hotel and were very disappointed with the service and the way we were handled at check in.

On our first evening we stopped by NKBR after dinner next door at Merriman's (delicious food and a fabulous view by the way) to see what their availability and rates were. We were warmly greeted and Michelle at the front desk couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating. She let us check out two rooms and we were hooked. THIS was the Hawaiian experience we were looking for that was so lacking at the other place. Of course you get what you pay for and the rates were a bit high. Michelle worked some magic though and after speaking with someone in the office behind the front desk she was able to offer us a wonderful discount. Needless to say, we moved from the KB hotel that night!

Our five days here were most relaxing. We did practically nothing but read, swim, sun and eat! Napili Bay is one of the most serene places to swim on Maui. The NKBR staff can't be beat; everyone is welcoming and friendly.

This is not a place to stay if you're looking to be in the middle of the action. This is a place to kick back, disconnect from the real world (hardly saw anyone on their phones and only 2 people with laptops the whole time) and slow down. We're so happy that our misfortune at our original hotel brought us back to Napili Kai. We can't wait to return!

BEST location, Beautiful grounds, Friendly, Non " typical square" hotel! Some units are refurbished, some are not. Chose carefully if that is important to you. You will love it!

This is by far our favorite property on Maui. If you want to just relax and take it easy and don't want to be bothered by the obnoxious Lahaina crowd then this is the place to go. No whistles and bells, just pure bliss and scenic beauty. The staff is fantastic and the service is great but low key.

This was our 5th visit to Maui and our 5th stay at the Napili Kai Beach Resort. In my opinion it has one of the
Nicest beaches on the island. The fact that this is NOT a high rise hotel is what appeals to us. We have enjoyed our stays with and without children. The staff, service, and overall experience is what brings us back . Thank you Kim for making our anniversary trip so special, we will be back!

We loved this resort. It had all the things we look for when staying at a resort. The bay was perfect for swimming and snorkeling, our room had a great view looking out onto the bay, the spa tub was relaxing, the size and location of the resort was perfect, the fitness center fit our needs and having a restaurant on site was very convenient. Having a room with a kitchen and having the use of grills on the premises gave us flexibility when planning meals. The proximity to restaurants, shopping and nightlife was convenient. Our room did not have AC but having a fan, along with leaving the windows open, was perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful and having free parking close to our room made coming and going quite easy. Many of the guests we met have been coming to this resort for years, and we would definitely stay there again should we get the chance to visit Maui in the future.

The Napili Kai is in a beautiful location and somewhat old-fashioned. The entire resort is low rise (as are adjacent properties) and this means that the views from anywhere at the cove/ the beach are quite unspoilt, i.e. you see low buidlings in between palm trees at a beautiful sandy beach/ rock-fringed cove. The water is calm inside the cove, and swimming and snorkeling were great right from the resort beach - there is a little rock reef in the middle of the cove and we saw tropical fish, including quite large blue spine unicorn fish (at least that's what I think those beautiful lime yeallow/green/ blue fish were) and a turtle right there, only yards away from the beach, so the location is great. You have to be aware however, that not all the resort rooms are updated, and you essentially get what you pay for, the choice ranging from non-updated rooms with ocean views at an angle only from their lanai, to beautifully appointed rooms truly on the ocean front and a variety of rooms inbetween (We looked at a few.). The atmosphere is quite sleepy, relaxed and unpretentious. Got the impression that guests were from pretty much all income brackets and backgrounds which made for some interesting people watching. ;-) The service was warm and welcoming, but a little haphazard: cleaning was only so-so, and some details were not always great (no beach towels available in the later afternoon, disappointing drinks at the restaurant bar with barely any alcohol in them but plenty of sugar...), but if you are looking for relaxation amongst natural beauty and can overlook a little less than perfection, I would really recommend it. We certainly want to return, the sooner the better.

We've been to Maui many times, and the Napili Kai is by far, our very favorite place to stay. Heavenly location, stayed in a one bedroom suite in the Puna II building. Watched whales and turtles from our lovely lanai. Perfect vacation :)
