If your idea of a Hawaiian vacation is sitting in air-conditioned elegance, shopping at Tommy Bahama, walking ten minutes to the beach, and sharing the pool with a bunch of kids who should be in school, stay at the Ritz Carlton up the street. On the other hand if you want a room practically on the beach, watching the sunset with people who have been returning here for over 20 years, and listening to the surf at night, stay here. Yesterday while snorkeling in front of the Napili Kai (next door resort) I swam with two huge manta rays and a sea turtle. This is about as close to heaven as you can get.

Room Tip: North facing rooms are cooler in the afternoon sun.

Very Nice Place for some beach time with the family. Great access to the beach. Units have a nice little kitchen for making your own meals. Stop at the Costco and load up.. I liked the open garden court yard. Also the no air conditioning was nice with the fans we are slept like babies. The only down side is a night quite time starts at 10 pm and you could hear your neighbors. Odd thing was when we where there most of the other guest sat in the evening with their faces lite up by IPads the hotel advertise no TV's but offers Wifi my goodness people why don't you talk to each other. I would have gladly listen to people chat and laugh.. But any-ways that's just the crowd that there are the time.. The beach was great we saw turtles and lots of fish and had a wonderful time just playing in the surf.

Room Tip: Choose ground level so you can walk right out to the beach..

We went to this resort for our Honeymoon 14 years ago and return every time we go to Maui. The location is absolutely to die for, literally steps from the beach, and the rooms are recently updated. It's a smaller hotel so you feel like you are stepping back in time a little to return to what Hawaii was like 50-60 years ago. Absolutely love it and will return again soon.

Two-storey hotel right on Napili Bay. Beautiful tropical landscaping. There's a pool but I preferred the ocean. Napili beach is gorgeous; the bay has a sandy floor and is perfect for play or just floating. Rooms are nicely furnished and well maintained. No TV, phone or AC, but the big ceiling fans cool the room nicely. Room has a large fridge, cook top and microwave. The overhead BIG shower is great, but temperature can be tricky to adjust. The water tank must be in the main building because sometimes it took several minutes for the warm water to get to us in the closer-to-the-beach building. My main complaint is that the bed sheets felt stiff and uncomfortable. I think they need to get some higher thread-count sheets. Location is out of the way. Don't stay here if you plan to catch the sunrise at Haleakala or take the Road to Hana. They are both several hours drive away. But for a restful stay, this is the place. There are shopping plazas nearby for dining and groceries. And Lahaina is only a short drive.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms would be good.

We have been staying at the Mauian since 1985. The last remodel was a nice one! The landscaping has grown in beautifully and the rooms are very comfortable. If you enjoy the beach this is the best location. No long trek down elevators ,thru a large lobby and then a long walk thru a pool area to get to the beach! Its right there ....so if you forget something once you are settled in your beach chair (they provide) its a short walk back to your room! There are only 3- 2 story buildings making the property small and intimate. A great place to meet people from all over the world....many repeat travelers. I took my kids here when they were little and now they have kids!
Great for family reunions or couples. They serve continental breakfast every morning and with kitchens in the rooms you can save on eating in as well as using the BBQ s on property. There is an excellent restaurant next store that is right on the beach. Since Beach time means up early and to bed early.....they offer a great happy hour and early dinner !
Every evening people gather to watch the sunset! It is a true Hawaiian experience with out the high rise stuffiness where you never meet your fellow travelers!
The only downside is that since there are small children (more in the summer months) It can be noisy sometimes as in crying babies! Though we have had MANY trips where this has not been an issue.
The bay is an excellent place for swimming, paddle boarding and snorkeling for all ages! The water temperature is always perfect!
We cant wait to schedule our next adventure!

Room Tip: all of the rooms are great.....even the pool building C is a great location and sometimes a bit chea...

The greatest hit of this hotel is its location. The napili beach on the front is a wonderful beach, with great golden sand and big waves for the little ones to play. The hotel has a small pool and provides boards for bodysurfing but besides this you will need to go out to eat, except breakfast which is great, and to do some other activities. The hotel is quiet, clean, doesn't have a reception 24/7 but the people are kind. It has very legitimate prices for what it is offering. I would suggest this hotel if someone wants a place to hang around to rest and sleep near the sea with his family. It is great for people wanting something close to a b&b with better service, so it gives you the chance to get out and explore the area and save some money, that you can spend in activities. Ideal hotel for upper-middle class families.

Room Tip: choose a garden view room, closer to the parking and reception.

We had to drive a little further to get to the Mauian, but the location was worth it. Being right on the bay was nice and the sunsets were some of the best we saw. The room was clean and even though there is no a/c there was a nice breeze and the fans over the bed made it comfortable. The only thing was our room was right next to the pool so sometimes at night people were hanging out and noisy by the pool. Also there are lights and torches by the pool which shined into our window at night so we couldn't keep the blinds open to get the nice cross breeze coming through. The SUP rentals right on the beach worked great and you could see sea turtles right below the surface of the water. Overall it was great, but would just ask for a room not right next to the pool. I think our room was 220.
