This is a true ocean front condo - yes as others have said 10 STEPS to the sea! The condo looks exactly and delivers exactly what is described on the owner's website: www.mauisands.com You have the "Hawaiiana" charm of an original Maui vacation condo built in the 1960s before there were "set back" rules to keep buildings farther from the ocean. You also have a huge amount of green space around the condo with very mature landscaping, the complex is only two stories. This is a much quieter experience than the big resorts just down the road. There is not really a "beach" on the ocean front but grass and steps down to a couple rocky reefs with sand in between, water shoes recommended. Because of the reef there is plentiful snorkeling and many tropical fish right in front of the unit and we saw sea turtles feeding every morning and every evening. The sound of the waves and the constant view of Molokai in the distance is mesmerizing.

Location, location, location. This complex sits just north of Kaanapali Beach and all the big resorts so it is very easy to go check those out. If you want to go to the North side of the
Beach and visit Dukes restaurant it is within easy walking distance. There is a natural foods grocery store, fresh fish market, ABC store and a traditional grocery store all within walking distance as well.

When you see the complex from the street it has a modest appearance, showing its age a bit and not all of the units have been renovated, the landscaping of mature plants and trees is spectacular. There is a mix of vacation rentals and permanent residents in the complex giving it a very quiet homey feeling. When you enter Unit 4B itself, however, everything is brand new. This unit was completely gutted and redone, it has all the modern conveniences; granite counters, stainless steel appliances, large flat screen TV, excellent free Wifi, wonderful sound system with complimentary Pandora and Netflix. The sound/video system is everything you need and thankfully there is a step by step manual on how to run everything as you may need it. I loved laying on the lanai with the sound of the ocean and the Hawaiian music station playing on the Pandora in the background.

The owner, Ryan, was very responsive throughout my booking process and our stay. We had one minor issue when we first checked in and he had a maintenance man over immediately.

This two bedroom 11/2 bath condo could sleep up to 6 people, although I think 4 or less would be ideal. There were 3 in our group and it was perfect. What I loved most about staying here is that no matter where we were or what we were doing on Maui, I was excited to go back to the condo and just enjoy being there. Some of my favorite times of my whole trip were the meals we prepared and ate right at home with our first row, ocean front, sunset view. Paradise.

Mahalo Ryan!

For us it was 5 stars all the way. We stayed at unit 717 (mauisands717@comcast.net), which is suitable for a couple, no room for kids. This what you call home away from home! great location, close to everything, and great beaches access in a walking distance. We love walking and hiking so this was an extra treat for us. A famous one is black rock beach, about an hour of casual walk on the side walk or 45 minutes on the shoreline sand (think no parking...) with about 5-6 wonderful beaches on the way. The unit is less than a minute away from hwy 30, the location is simply great. Beautifully updated, super comfortable and useful, great bathroom and bedroom, WI-FI connected and working. When you arrive, make sure to enter the parking lot right across from the Fish Market restaurant, not the one near ABC stores and gas station.
The unit also had a full library of books about the area which comes very handy even with "Everything on the net" today. The owners were very good with the instructions on how to get in, connecting to the wireless in the room etc, and their effort o make the place attractive are worth your attention.
Overall, great experience, not a single thing to complain about, very refreshing :-)!
Thank you Claire & Tracy, we will back sometimes in the near future.

Room Tip: Unit 717, just awesome!

Great condo! You won’t find a condo that provides as many amenities as Maui Sands. It had all the comforts of home. Our stay was eight nights in June with three TEENAGE grandkids. They had the time of their life - - even if it was with the grandparents! We were all impressed with the many, great accommodations and unbelievable view. The location is mid-way between the Kaanapali Resort area and Kaapalua. The kids especially enjoyed walking the town of Lahaina, seeing the beautiful, large, banyan tree, enjoying the different shops and wanting to try out all the different restaurants.
The kids also enjoyed great snorkeling right out the back of the condo, literally, right outside the condo’s back door. You walk down a few steps and are in the ocean water. They enjoyed the beach so much they didn’t have a chance to use the pool. The trade winds were so enjoyable. No need to use an air conditioner. The sofa bed in the living room provided the lull of the ocean for a good night’s sleep.
The kitchen was well supplied to accommodate cooking/eating in vs. always having to dine out. The three cookbooks were hilarious to read (yes, for those who like to read cook books – you will know what I mean when you see these). The stainless steel sink is big enough to do laundry, however, the condo provides a laundry area equipped with great commercial washers and dryers close by.
The condo also provides eco-friendly soaps, shampoos, sheets, etc., as well as the most fought over amenity, the full body massage chair (kids liked even better than Netflix)! They did, however, enjoy the big screen, high definition TV and with 3D glasses. Who can’t watch Avatar over and over again in 3-D?
Ryan was more than accommodating to ensure our visit was the most enjoyable ever. He was also great with providing recommendations for a number of places to visit and restaurant suggestions.
We definitely will return for a visit (without the grandkids)!

My wife and I took our granddaughter to Maui Sands. It was the first trip to Maui for all of us. First: the location. It's about five miles north of Lahaina, which meant it was not in the middle of the major tourist areas and, as a result, was really quiet and peaceful. We were in unit 712, which is a beautifully maintained condo with views of the ocean from the balcony. The building itself is about 10 feet from the ocean and we were lulled to sleep every night by the sound of the waves. I enjoyed this so much that on several occasions I slept on the balcony! Day trips included an underwater journey on the Atlantis submarine (highly recommended - great views from 130 feet under the surface); a sunset cruise on a sailing catamaran; and the guided drive to Hana (which was very interesting, but not recommended for children who may be car sick - our granddaughter, poor thing, used up much of the vehicle's supply of sick bags). The condo is fully equipped with everything you might need, including snorkel equipment, beach towels, etc. We were in Maui for 12 days and our stay there was so comfortable that we were reluctant to leave. I'd highly recommend Maui Sands, especially our condo which was well appointed with wonderful views.

Maui Sands 4D ocean front condo unlike other properties that advertise steps to the ocean and find out its 500 feet away. Unit 4D IS ten steps to the ocean. A great vacation value. First floor of two story building. Feels like you are guests in someones home. Dave the owner is always available by phone or email for questions a real plus. Almost everything you need for swimming and snorkeling is here Masks goggles floats beach towels chairs. Washer/dryer in the second bedroom. Quite and private a perfect place to relax. Big screen HDTV in living room withj 250 channels, high speed internet free phone with free calls to all of the United States. I can't wait to come back

Room Tip: 4D is perfect

Maui Sands is a nice little condo complex in the Honokowai area of Maui, just minutes north of Lahaina. We stayed in unit 5F which is right on the beach facing the island of Lanai. Our unit was clean and tastefully decorated with all the comforts of home, including wi-fi. The sun sets right on your balcony here, but the unit has nice shade screens that protect you from the sun until you are ready to enjoy the beautiful sunsets afterglow. You can snorkel right off the beach. One bonus we didn't expect was to see humpback whales (yes plural) from our balcony every day in April. Individuals and mothers with babies. Incredible. We rented through Chasin Rainbows, who we have used before. Nice helpful easy. The complex itself is in a nice almost residential location on the beach within walking distance to the park, several shops, restaurants and a market. The grounds are nicely landscaped with a gated pool, nice laundry facilities and community BBQ. We were able to walk to the Kaanapali Beach area from here. Not a short walk, but very doable for those who enjoy being outdoors. A great bargain in a nice area. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: This is a two story complex with no elevators, so the lower floors offer the convenience to step rig...

We stayed at Maui sands, a 2 story building, surrounded by lush vegetation, grass outside the condo, short walk to a central pool, did not use as we prefer ocean. Next to pool was BBQs and a lovely clean laundry area with many washers and dryers, need change (quarters).
It was very central to grocery store, food land down street and walking distance. Coffee shops and an abc store, as well as a yummy fresh fish market. Our condo was updated beautifully and very comfortable. Loud waves crashing at night lull you sleep. Or the rain we had made you pray for sunny weather.
