“Beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

My wife and I took our granddaughter to Maui Sands. It was the first trip to Maui for all of us. First: the location. It's about five miles north of Lahaina, which meant it was not in the middle of the major tourist areas and, as a result, was really quiet and peaceful. We were in unit 712, which is a beautifully maintained condo with views of the ocean from the balcony. The building itself is about 10 feet from the ocean and we were lulled to sleep every night by the sound of the waves. I enjoyed this so much that on several occasions I slept on the balcony! Day trips included an underwater journey on the Atlantis submarine (highly recommended - great views from 130 feet under the surface); a sunset cruise on a sailing catamaran; and the guided drive to Hana (which was very interesting, but not recommended for children who may be car sick - our granddaughter, poor thing, used up much of the vehicle's supply of sick bags). The condo is fully equipped with everything you might need, including snorkel equipment, beach towels, etc. We were in Maui for 12 days and our stay there was so comfortable that we were reluctant to leave. I'd highly recommend Maui Sands, especially our condo which was well appointed with wonderful views.

Maui Sands 4D ocean front condo unlike other properties that advertise steps to the ocean and find out its 500 feet away. Unit 4D IS ten steps to the ocean. A great vacation value. First floor of two story building. Feels like you are guests in someones home. Dave the owner is always available by phone or email for questions a real plus. Almost everything you need for swimming and snorkeling is here Masks goggles floats beach towels chairs. Washer/dryer in the second bedroom. Quite and private a perfect place to relax. Big screen HDTV in living room withj 250 channels, high speed internet free phone with free calls to all of the United States. I can't wait to come back

Room Tip: 4D is perfect

Maui Sands is a nice little condo complex in the Honokowai area of Maui, just minutes north of Lahaina. We stayed in unit 5F which is right on the beach facing the island of Lanai. Our unit was clean and tastefully decorated with all the comforts of home, including wi-fi. The sun sets right on your balcony here, but the unit has nice shade screens that protect you from the sun until you are ready to enjoy the beautiful sunsets afterglow. You can snorkel right off the beach. One bonus we didn't expect was to see humpback whales (yes plural) from our balcony every day in April. Individuals and mothers with babies. Incredible. We rented through Chasin Rainbows, who we have used before. Nice helpful easy. The complex itself is in a nice almost residential location on the beach within walking distance to the park, several shops, restaurants and a market. The grounds are nicely landscaped with a gated pool, nice laundry facilities and community BBQ. We were able to walk to the Kaanapali Beach area from here. Not a short walk, but very doable for those who enjoy being outdoors. A great bargain in a nice area. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: This is a two story complex with no elevators, so the lower floors offer the convenience to step rig...

We stayed at Maui sands, a 2 story building, surrounded by lush vegetation, grass outside the condo, short walk to a central pool, did not use as we prefer ocean. Next to pool was BBQs and a lovely clean laundry area with many washers and dryers, need change (quarters).
It was very central to grocery store, food land down street and walking distance. Coffee shops and an abc store, as well as a yummy fresh fish market. Our condo was updated beautifully and very comfortable. Loud waves crashing at night lull you sleep. Or the rain we had made you pray for sunny weather.

It was the first time we used the HomeAway.com site to find lodging. And we don't regret it. First of all the price is amazing compared to any hotels in the area. The amenities can not even compare to hotels. A supersize table sitting 8 in the dining room, kitchen with everything you need, countless beach towels, beach chairs and body boards that we used. Also it had a large collection of DVDs and games that we didn't really have time to use. The unit comes with a designated parking space. For more details check listing #503776 on homeaway.com. Everything is as per the description and pictures on the site. The complex has a pool, bbq that we didn't have the chance to use. Also the laundry came in handy, so we made the conscious decision to travel light, just with carry-ons. The Wi-Fi works perfectly. Although we booked this unit because it has AC, we didn't have to use it. The fans in each bedroom and living room, combined with the louvered windows are good enough to keep you cool.
The complex is a 2-minute walk from an ABC store where you can find the basic groceries you need. This ABC also has a prepared food section where you can get a large selection of fast foods. Also a gas station is in front of this ABC. A 5-minute drive is the beach we liked the most, Kanapali beach, where we spent 3 of our 6 days in Maui.
The check-in, check-out process is very simple and the times to come in, out matched our flights. What we liked was also the fact that the owner doesn't charge you a refundable deposit, like many other condos, but you have to pay an insurance fee, in case anything is broken/disappears.
Overall the experience was fantastic.

We choose this condo based on the reviews and pictures on tripadvisor. It was a faboulous stay. Everything from booking and during the stay went very good. Ryan answered all our questions right away each time if it was before our during our stay. The condo is totally renovated and all you can wish for is there. Excellent view at the ocean and the whales that pass by every day! The condo is on a small resort area with only 2 story buildings, this condo on the lower floor. It makes everything a little quiter in compare to the big resorts where there are high story appartments and a lot of people. Parking is available and very handy. Also laundry and bbq are not far from the condo, only a few steps away. Shops and restaurants are on walking distance what makes it very handy during the stay. The condo is on a 10 minute drive from center Lahaina. We would for sure choose this condo and location again on our next stay in Lahaina! Thank you Ryan!

Condo had been remodeled and was decorated stylishly, however the unit has issues that need to be addressed. The washer is broken (taped closed with a note indicating it floods the unit -note looks like its been there awhile), the sliding back door is locked with a screw and the air conditioning unit in the master bedroom floods the room after a couple of hours. Most troubling of all is that the property manager only responded to text messages or email and only offered "work around solutions," like go to the laundry mat or park across the street at the shopping center since someone is using the assigned parking space. No attempts were made to actually fix the problems.

The unit is less expensive than others of the same size, the pool is nice, the grounds are well kept and the location is decent.
