First the good points:
-The staff are very friendly and greet you with a smile and humor. They are attentive to your needs and will fetch drinks for you from the open bar so you won't have to leave the table.
-The location and setting right next to the ocean is very nice and the grounds are well-maintained.
-The show was good, with very talented performers and a good range of styles presented.
The not so good:
-When we were there it poured rain the whole time. The dining tables are all outside with no shelter at all. They do give you plastic ponchos to wear, but the experience of sitting in the rain, eating dinner that was actively being drenched and watching the show in the rain was certainly far from enjoyable. I had asked what their cancellation policy was when I booked and they said it never rains and they don't cancel shows.
-The food was OK, but not exceptional. Perhaps because of it being soaked in the rain. Being a buffet, one would expect to be able to return to the food stations to get more, but as we were the last table allowed to go up to the buffet, there was no time to return for seconds before they closed the service. Glad we got samples of everything we wished to try on the first visit.
-For the price you pay for a ticket ($100) it would have been nice to have a table to ourselves, instead our family of 4 had to share a table with 4 other strangers. It was fine, but just not to our tastes.
-They advertise that prior to the dinner you can walk around and view traditional Hawaiian crafts being made. Well, they are just other opportunites to try and get you to part with more money. Especially the couple of photographers trying to get you to pose for them. There was one interesting explanation of the musical instruments being used at the luau and the unearthing of the roated pig, but the remainer wasn't interesting at all.
-Their tiny free parking lot fills up very quickly so instead you have to park behind the mall across the street.
This was the one and only time I will do a Luau in Hawaii. It wasn't worth it.
