“Would have given 5 "stars" BUT....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Immediate reactions was 5 stars. The staff very nice (even when dealing with two problems), the grounds well maintained, the room roomy and clean, pools sparkling, and starter kits for cleaning and cooking. Now for the BUT... The ceiling fan in the bedroom had a broken blade. We reported that someone had attempted to fix it by shoving in paper at the base of the blade. We did not use the fan (a floor fan was provided which worked fine). It took two days to "fix" the fan. Guess how they "fixed it"... By shoving paper into the base of the blade! Problem #2: dryer was not drying clothes. This also took two days and 2 attempts to fix. After the first attempt to fix the dryer the front desk told us that they thought the dryer had been fixed. So I left a note on the laundry room door explaining the exact problem that the dryer was not getting HOT!
I must say they offered another condo.. But that would have involved taking our vacation time to pack clothes and kitchen and moving to a unit that they said was not as nice and that it would not have as nice a view.
Would we stay there again? Yes, pros outweigh the cons, but I would check appliances, fans etc. before unpacking.

We love El Dorado! We keep coming back!
True - this is not the water slide, umbrella drinks type of resort - this is the resort where you come to decompress and enjoy the sounds of Maui!
First- the concierge guys rock! We love them - they've seen our child grow through the years and know us well! Their shuttle run to the beach is always filled with warm conversations!
The front desk folks are the warmest people ! Aloha spirit!
Very well kept facilities - the grounds are well maintained, the pools are clean, and the grills are maintained every morning!
Perfect location away from the big resorts and tourists!
Kaanapali beach is just a walk down and avail of the trolley to go to whalers village!
The fairway shops across the complex has a new Whalers General store for sundries- perfect for last minute grocery runs. You will also find, a gym, pizza, deli, and Chinese restaurants!
My one biggest question for management - the golf cart shuttle stops on the dot by 530 pm - if we are there to catch the sunset, which is always after 630-7 pm, why can't we call for the concierge guys to pick us up? It gets really dark walking the path- especially if you have young kids or an armload of beach stuff! That should be part of the package.
But other than that - we keep coming back ! We will be back ! 10 years and counting!

Room Tip: Ask to face the golf course ! If you are with young children in strollers or older- ask for the bott...

Aloha MillieWT:

Thanks for your great review! We're happy that you so enjoy coming to the Outrigger Maui Eldorado. I especially appreciate your kind words about my staff.

The Outrigger Maui Eldorado really does let you stay in Kaanapali without all of the crowds. Even when we're busy, you don't see that many guests on the property.

Fairway Shops across the street is really filling up. In addition to all that you've mentioned, there is a new Mexican restaurant in the works. It'll be great to have another dining option within just a few minutes walk.

I can let you know that we have discussed your request about return rides from the cabana after hours and, though we will not offer rides to the cabana at that time, the bellmen will be happy pick you up and return you to the property if you phone the front desk.

It's great to read that you've been coming back for 10 years - we look forward to seeing you again next year!

I booked a partial ocean view room with a CAA discount. I requested a room with 2 queen beds and a pull-out couch (as I was travelling with 3 other friends). We were assigned a room with 1 bed and a pull-out couch, but the clerk at the front desk quickly changed it to a 2-bedroom (king and queen), 2-bath unit with a pull-out couch (L-100 unit to be exact). We didn't have an ocean view, but we were completely happy with the amount room we had. The place of L-100 had its advantages: ground level (no climbing stairs), near to the pool entrance, near to the parking. Only drawback to this particular unit is that it was next to the walkway that connects the buildings so other people walk by and can see pretty much everything. (But that's what curtains are for, right?) Loved the full kitchen (with complete cookware, dinnerware and flatware)...I do wish that there were some basic staples there (eg. salt, ketchup, coffee, sugar, etc.) There was also a washer/dryer (unfortunately it came with laundry detergent only good for 1 load). Wifi was included for free, but parking and local phone calls are extra.
In terms of location of Outrigger Maui Eldorado itself...it is right beside a golf course, it is a 10-minute walk to the beach (there's a well-paved path that leads to the beach, so you also have the option of taking the golf cart), about 5-10 minute drive to Safeway in Lahaina, and 10-15 minute walk to Whaler's Village (but there is no direct connection to the beach walk, so we had to walk around the Sheraton to get to it). Loved how it was close to Black Rock. Snorkelling there was awesome. The water was clear (especially when the sun is out) and we saw lots of fish, sea turtles, a couple of stingrays, and an eel. Eldorado has its own cabana where you can sunbathe on the lounge chairs, rinse off sand, bring food to the kitchen to eat on the beach or borrow beach towels.

The staff were helpful and friendly. (One of the toilets in our unit clogged and this was fixed while we were at the beach.) They also gave tips, eg. checking weather conditions, for seeing the sunrise at Haleakala Summit.

All-in-all I would definitely stay here again!

Tip: If you are arriving at Kahului airport, renting a car AND have a Costco membership, go to Costco (near the airport). Load up on food and drinks there as the cost of groceries can be quite staggering in other places.

Thank you for posting your photos along with a review of your stay. We particularly like the turtle swimming underwater! And I appreciate your kind words about my staff.

We're happy to read that you were happy with space and beds in L100; I've shared your comments with the unit's owners. And it sounds like you and your friends made good use of the cabana. You really can't beat a beach day hanging out down there.

Thank you for staying with us. We hope to see you again soon.

After having visited the Eldorado two years ago, we came with very high expectations. This time we booked a two bedroom condo expecting that there would be suitable bedding for 5 people as mentioned on the booking, the whole room (j107) had 2 double beds, despite having stayed in rooms in the past with 3 double beds. At first this didn't worry us as last time there were rollaway beds for hire, but this service, among many others, had been cut. So this left someone to sleep on the sofa bed which is so uncomfortable that you really can't sleep on it. When the front desk was called about this, they really didn't care, so the customer service has gotten worse since last time too. So using the cushions from the couch we made a bed for my 10 year old brother, which really was far from ideal, but in the end everyone was reasonably happy.

Now I really feel that everything else made up for the problems aforementioned. The property is simply beautiful and the scenery and views from the rooms are peaceful and make the vacation very relaxing. This property is also not at all crowded like the neighbouring hotels so it makes everything less stressful. The multiple pools are also not very crowded so it feels very exclusive and laid-back. The beach cabana supplies beach towels and provides a good place for guests to have meals etc at the beach.

The rooms are also a strong point of this condominium. They are very spacious and even though we encountered bedding issues, the room was still extremely comfortable and with a full kitchen and separate living space gives much better value for money than competing properties. My advice to people considering staying here is that they need to specify their bedding requirements specifically when they make a booking. It is a very good property and if you are okay with not having room cleaning in exchange for spacious rooms in an uncluttered, beautiful setting, this condominium is a great choice. I hope to return one day and hope that the problems encountered this time won't happen again.

Aloha keen2travelasia:

Thank you for returning to the Outrigger Maui Eldorado. It's great to read that you enjoy the Outrigger Maui Eldorado's tranquility as well as our spacious condos and our beach cabana.

Though we do our best, sometimes we're just not able to to provide the bedding you request. Did you ask if we had a different condo? Each of our two bedroom condos has unique bed configurations; if we're not able to provide what you like when you check in, we may have a more suitable arrangement available in a day or two.

Thank you for posting your review and for adding the photos. We look forward to seeing you and your family again soon.

I stayed here with my two school age daughters for three nights. We loved the condo--spacious, clean and with a fully-equipped kitchen. We were a short walk from the beach, and also had one of the complex pools near by. The location is perfect. You have shops and restaurants very close and Lahaina town is a short drive away, yet the resort was quiet and relaxed. Beautiful beach at your doorstep. We would certainly come again.

Room Tip: We had a bottom floor condo in J block, at the beach end, and close to a parking garage and pool. It...

Forever grateful for this quiet, spacious, gorgeous condo. Perfect location in Kaanapali, away from the crowds, yet within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and lounges. Loved cabana on beautiful beach, the 3 pools and wandering through the tropical plants and flowers. Great place for families or honeymooners. Each unit has well appointed kitchen to save time and money eating out constantly. Friendly, helpful staff to give you much aloha. Riding in golf carts chauffeured by timely, kind bellman added fun and ease to our whole experience. I stayed additional 3 nights alone as I wasn't ready to leave. Been to Maui many times and by far this is the place for us.

Room Tip: Our corner bottom suite was very roomy. No elevators so if you have trouble climbing stairs or child...

Not that nice at all. Bed was very short and this is a condo rental and very poorly kept. Parking is expensive and you have to drag your bags up stairs in the hot sun. The pool was nice and clean. You can book a Luau from here and the location is nice to walk downtown.

Room Tip: Pass on this hotel
