We stayed here late October, early November because a relative had recommended the place as most Hawaiian and taking Halloween into account there was not much available in Lahaina when we inquired late September. When we phoned to inquire about rates, etc. we were told we would get a "free lunch" because we were referred by a previous guest. Well when we checked in we were told our relative would have to send some sort of referral form to the hotel first. We also booked a garden room and got one on the back side of the hotel looking at grass between us and a condo building. We complained about our room location and questioned the lack of the promised lunch and asked the clerk AND HER MANAGER to see what the could do for us. Not a word, and this was when the hotel was only half full - too bad for them, we won't be coming back. Try the Lahaina Inn for real Hawaiian.

We recently spent 6 nights at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, which was our 2nd stay at this property. About 8 years ago we spent a week at this property and jumped at the opportunity to return . But, things were not quite as they were on our previous visit. Like many hotels in Hawaii, even this property is playing silly games with pricing. As an example, we booked a hotel package that included a rental car, but we still had to pay to park that rental car at the hotel. We were charged $1.50 a day to use the room safe (very old model with a key). The included buffet breakfast at the Mixed-Plate restaurant was awful. Eggs were cold, waffles were oven-made and like concrete, pancakes were like rubber coasters (and cold), etc. We could have elected to use our vouchers as a credit towards buying breakfast in their Tiki restaurant, but the thought of paying $30 for eggs, juice and coffee made me think we were in the Hyatt Regency (trust me...the Kaanapali Beach is no Hyatt Regency). There were also some good things. It felt like being home to see that Dale was still tending bar at the pool (more than 40 years at this job) and making great drinks. The hotel is well maintained and the landscaping is first class. They now offer internet in the rooms (only $10 per day!) but in our case, the internet never worked. Several complaints to the hotel managment got us responses such as: "its the cable companies fault," they will fix it within 48 hours," "we can let you use the internet in an empty room (but you cannot have this room)" etc. The hotel does have lots of available chairs at the pool and surrounding grassy area, but you cannot see the ocean from any of these chairs (the view is blocked by hedges). You are not permitted to take any of the chairs onto the beach, but the hotel will rent you chairs on the beach for more than $20 per day. Overall this hotel is still a reasonbly priced altenative for the expensive Kaanapali Beach area, but we will probably look elsewhere for our next visit.

We stayed at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel for the second part of our honeymoon. Our travel agent recommended it to us because it was within our budget and in a great location. I was leary after reading many reviews, but I would stay there again.

CONS:
**The hotel is very much a 3 star hotel and needs to be refurbished and remodeled.
**The tub did not drain and water filled to the top of the tub while showering.
**Bar and dinner service at the Tiki Terrace restaurant were billed separately and were expensive. The host at the Tiki Terrace restaurant was the least pleasant person at the hotel. (He was the exception.)
**The pool looked run down, had cracks, and had leaves on the bottom. (We did not swim in it.)
**The bed was very hard!

PROS:
**Excellent location!!!!
**The hotel room was very clean! The sheets, towels, etc. were worn but clean.
**The beach is fabulous and very close to Black Rock.
**Service at the Valet Desk and Front Desk was great and people were friendly.
**The air conditioning was very cold!
**The dinner at Tiki Terrace was delicious (but pricey) and you can watch the entertainment while dining.
**Shows every night were not excellent quality, but were fun to watch.
**Shows also ended early enough so that they did not keep you up if you were in your room.
**Breakfast at the Mixed Plate was not the best ever, but good variety and quality.
**The landscaping is very well maintained and very pretty. Large outdoor area to relax.
**Local artists displayed their work in the lobby.
**Great variety of free activities.
**Lei ceremony when you leave is very heartwarming and sincere.

We stayed at a nicer hotel in Honolulu before we came to Maui. Because of this, it took me a few days to adjust to the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel. I will stay here again because now I know what to expect. Do not come here expecting a luxurious hotel or you will be disappointed. The people, location, and beach are great!

My husband and I stayed here for a week on our honeymoon. It's not a ritzy hotel, but pleasing, clean & comfortable. We felt like we were tucked away from the hustle & bustle; it's very calming. The beach is right there for swimming or snorkeling. All the staff are very friendly and happy. We even had a bottle of champagne in our room when we arrived. We stayed in an older wing of the hotel, which was fine, no elevator. But I'm sure the updated rooms are lovely. We bought beverage holders and liquor when we landed, then filled them and brought to the pool with us. More affordable. The location makes it very easy to drive around on the island. Cell phone coverage was great. Internet access for a fee. There's an in-room safe too, definitely made use of that.

My wife and I recently spent 17 days in Hawaii (Maui, Kauai, Oahu) on our honeymoon, and we liked the KBH best of all three hotels we stayed at. The location on the beach was terrific, the pool was great, and the Tiki Bar and nightly entertainment was fabulous! We would definitely return and stay at this hotel on our next vacation to Maui, and would suggest KBH to anyone.
