We had just a few nights at the KBH but we loved every moment of it. The room was not the most modern decor but it only leant to a homey atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and the location was great for beach access and walkability. Going one way you hit Black Rock and some great snorkeling and the other way you get the shopping of Whaler's Village. It offers a little something for everyone.

Best hotel on Kaanapali Beach. Let me say straight out, if you want silk sheets, a giant pool, and to go to the bathroom on gilded gold plate, then go elsewhere. Elsewhere also includes ridiculous prices, tons of people and kids, and an automaton corporate staff. The facilities at the KBH are nice, clean, and extremely comfortable. We had an ocean front room and the view and access to the beach were incredible. The hotel is about 500 yards south of black rock, some of the best snorkeling on the island. We snorkeled straight out from our room and saw rays, turtles, and a rainbow of fish. The KBH has the best stretch of beach on Kaanapali. All the other hotels, both spartan and luxury had very small and very crowded beaches. At medium to high tide, most people south of the KBH have to sit on the grass of the hotel because there is no more sand. Not at KBH they have the widest, cleanest, least crowded beach in the whole area. My wife and I ran into several people who walked up or down from the "luxury places" to enjoy our beach. The grounds of the hotel are impeccable. Grass, exotic flowers, bushes, all well manicured and clean. Dozens of coconut and bannana trees surround the inner garden area. These trees really have bunches of coconuts and bannanas hanging from them, looked really cool. You've heard all the stories, some may think they are cliches, about the "most Hawaiin" hotel on Maui. Well, there true. Everyone we met or interacted with were great. Always quick with a smile and an "Aloha". The housekeeping was timely and we never wanted for towels, pillows, etc...The entire staff seemed as if they really cared not only about the guests, but also about their job, and most importantly, their culture. Make time to take some of the classes offered by the staff, they are well worth it. The food and drinks at the Tiki Terrace were always great. The food from the Tiki Bar and Grill always hit the spot. Quite convenient to order and carry stuff down to the beach. Don't miss the show from 6-9 nightly next to the Tiki Bar. Great authentic Hawaiin music, dancing, and great stories. We returned to the show about 4 different nights, and enjoyed it in a new way everytime. Definetly rent a car. Maui is pretty easy to explore in its entirety in about 7 days , if you have a car. Parking at the KBH was easy, in a covered lot, and only 6$ a day. My wife and I were celebrating our 10th Aniv. and the trip was FANTASTIC. The hotel, staff, food, and location only enhanced our pleasure and enjoyment. I read many reviews on this site for many months. I'll admit, I was a bit leary of the KBH. Now that I have been there, let me tell you, don't cheat yourself, make your own decision. If you are really experiencing your travel partner, and the Island, and the culture, and the beauty, how can you possibly complain about old fixtures, smoke smell, bad traffic, wind, prices etc...??? Hang loose bra, you're in paradise. Mahalo

We just got back from our trip to Maui and absolutely loved the KBH. The location is FANTASTIC. Sure, the decor could use some "sprucing up", but who cares, really? It's not like we spent that much time in our room, though we did have a gorgeous view in our partial oceanview room. The beach is beautiful and uncrowded. There's so much to do just walking distance away. We'll definitely return to the KBH, hopefully very soon!
