“Very nice hotel & resort!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We loved the KHB and would stay there again in a heart beat. Large very clean rooms with large bathroom. Great ocean view. Loved the location, a few minute walk to Whalers village where there are lots of shops, cafes, clothing stores, an ABC store. Thel beach is wonderful, right by Black rock....great snorkeling. A short drive to Lahainia, loved Lahainia...shops/food/drinks/clothes/art galleries...you must go there!!!! We had a great stay here, staff was helpful and friendly, they give you a free welcome breakfast....it is not a timeshare talk, it tells you about tours etc. We went to the magic show at the hotel it included supper and drinks...it was very well worth it, we really enjoyed it. they also offer a free hula show every night from 6 to 9 pm I think, the shows are not the same every night. It is reasonable prices for the quality fo the beach and the location is great. the tv was older, there was a small fridge in the room. The downfall is no free wifi and no free house computer, no free local calls, we didn't have a safe in our room....these weren't big problems for us, but did here people complain about it. It cost us $9.00 a day to park there, it was covered parking...lots of hotels charge for parking, so that was ok. Overall loved the hotel and location, we had an excellent stay here!!!

Room Tip: Go to the ABC store at Whalers Village(only a few minute walk) and pickup breakfast items/pop/wine/b...

“What a Honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

This is from our trip in June. My wife and I spent 6 nights at the KBH and they were amazing! We had come from Oahu where it felt like a big city, to laid back Maui. It was just what we needed. The only problem we had was that they told us our reservations had been canceled a few days before. This was a computer error, but after a 15 minute wait we were upgraded to an ocean view room! The grounds are beautiful. The hotel food is good. I loved the breakfast buffet. However, you cannot beat the view! The rates of this hotel are less than pretty much any place in the area. Sure, the rooms are a bit dated, but it was nice. The people are very friendly. My wife became friends with everyone there. If we ever make it back to Hawaii we know where we will stay for our entire trip! My wife loved the FREE Hawaiian classes. Thanks KBH!

Room Tip: Ocean view is worth it!

“Ka'anapali Beach Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

This is best hotel and location for the HAWAIIAN feeling. On this trip we stayed in a ground floor upgraded pool view room. We liked this room better in order to use the lounge chairs on the lawn outside our room. (Not many hotels in the area have grounds that have this option) The room had 2 double beds with a step down to an area with a day bed. Rooms have a safe, refrigerator and coffee maker. Parking is easy right out front. Shopping a 5 minute walk to Whalers Village. 5 minute walk to the beach for swimming or snorkeling off of black rock. Sunsets are great! We are Lei Aloha guests (repeat customer program). Their prices are much lower then the other hotels in the area even if you are not in the program itself. The staff really make this hotel our favorite place to stay on Maui over the others we have stayed at on Kaanapali beach. Oh, and the golf course is right across the street!

“When they say "Ocean Front", they mean it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

This year I upgraded to an ocean-front room on the second floor. The room was very spacious, with a large bathroom, and walk-in closet. I was given a corner room, which had the benefit of a side window as well. The sliding doors open wide to the beach below. I kept the doors wide open all night simply to hear the noise of the waves lapping at the sand. The balcony was also large enough to walk around and share with 3-4 other people.
This hotel is known for its Hawaiian-ness. Again I was welcomed by the staff, as part of the family. I will continue to recommend this hotel to friends.

“Our first Hawaii experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

My husband and I spent the first 4 nights of our 14 night Hawaiian honeymoon at the KBH (July 2012). It was an overall wonderful experience. This is not a luxury hotel. Our oceanfront room was not fancy but it was clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend splurging for an oceanfront room. It is literally steps away from the beach. The view and sunset were phenomenal. The breakfast buffet was included in our rate and there was a decent selection of food but did not vary much from day to day. Each day there were different vendors selling various Hawaiian crafts in the lobby. I really enjoyed this and was sorry I did not purchase something one morning because I thought the same vendor would be back the next day but she wasn't. The only meal we had at the hotel besides breakfast was lunch at the Tiki Grill. The food was good but there is not much variety. The pool was small but we never had a problem finding a chair. The beach is probably the best part of this hotel. It is situated on the best stretch of beach in Kaanapali in my opinion. We went snorkeling at Black Rock and encountered several green sea turtles. Be sure to bring an underwater camera! We also rented paddle boards at the Trilogy beach stand which was a lot of fun. Whalers Village is a short walk away and has a great variety of restaurants and shops. Probably our favorite part of the KBH was the Tiki Bar. The drinks were so tasty and we were always greeted with a friendly face. We had the pleasure of meeting Dale, Tom and Chantal who were all wonderful! The farewell ceremony was very touching. When my husband and I tell stories about the hotel, he says it’s the only place he’s ever received a hug upon leaving. The staff really makes you feel like you are family.

As for activities on the island, I would highly recommend doing the road to Hana. We had an incredible time and it was probably one of our favorite memories from our 15 day trip. Make sure you plan a full day for this adventure. We left late morning, figuring it would take 5-6 hours, but it ended up taking almost 10. We rented a Jeep Wrangler which isn’t necessarily the car you need for the highway unless you plan on following it past where they recommend you turn around and follow the highway back the way you came. My husband refused to turn around because he wanted to be one of the 20% of people who keep going and I am so glad we did. It was a little scary at times but completely worth the journey. We bought a road to Hana CD that told us where to stop and what to expect. It was definitely worth the money (a little less than $20).

Overall, we had an amazing time in Maui. We also visited Lanai and The Big Island. If we ever make it back to Hawaii we would definitely want to return to Maui and the KBH. It was our favorite island of the 3. Unfortunately, we live in Rhode Island so it is quite the journey to Hawaii! The only reason I rate the KBH 4 out of 5 rather than 5 out of 5 is because it is not a fancy luxury hotel. I don't want anyone to expect something it is not but I have nothing bad to say about the hotel. It is a very relaxed environment. We also had the pleasure of staying at a Four Seasons during our honeymoon, which was a luxurious experience where we were pampered our entire stay. However, our experience at the KBH was just as memorable and we would not hesitate to return!
