We just returned to Minnesota after spending 10 days at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel in Maui. Even though the weather was cloudy it was one of my top rated vacations. The staff made us feel like we were one of their family. The guest service staff were extremely kind and informative about the Hawaiin customs and their way of life. Every morning and throughout the day you could plan on learning something about the Hawaiin culture. This was a free service offered by the Hotel and you could tell that the staff really enjoyed teaching about their culture.
The hotel itself is very clean and the food at the Tiki Terrace was no ka oi (the best) They also have nightly entertainment . I definitely miss not dancing under the stars to the Hawaiin songs and the oceans waves. The beach is beautiful, white sand and the snorkeling was great. I was able to swim with a sea turtle right infront of the hotel. Awesome! While snorkeling at the Black Rock nearby I was able to swim with two more turtles. So cool.
My husband enjoyed sitting on the Lanai (balcony) drinking his Kona coffee and watching the Whales. They are amazing creatures. I talked story with other guests and staff. Also wonderful.
The ocean, the whales, the turtles, the fish, the rainbows, the music, the smells of plumeria and tuberose, the food (especially the fresh fish) and the wonderful, wonderful people that I am happy to call Ohana (family). All of the reasons I would love to return to Maui and to the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel.

Sincerely,
Mary Jo Paulson

We spent a week +, for the second time, at Kaanapali Beach Hotel on Maui.
The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and fun.
The second day of our stay we received a lovely fruit plate that was the basis of our lunch for two days. What a nice touch.
We will absolutely return to this property again and again.
The grounds are well kept, with large lawn areas for sunbathing or relaxing in comfortable chairs.

The grounds were nice and the staff was very friendly. Located not too far from Lahaina.
There is a beachwalk connecting all the hotels in this area and a shopping area. We could walk to other restaurants and to the luau at the Westin or Hyatt.
They have a welcome orientation breakfast on the morning after your arrival. There is a magic dinner show at the resort. We enjoyed the show!
The first room we were given was not nice. I would not recommend it to anyone. Especially not for the price I paid. The bathroom door kept coming off the rollers when I tried to close it and the bed was hard as a rock. I complained and was moved the next day to another wing. This room was much better and more in line with my expectations and the price I paid. The bed was softer and the bathroom had a regular door, with a tub. From the lanai I could see the whales. Much better, too bad I wasn't put in this room from the beginning.

  • Liked — located on the beach, had a computer connection in the lobby to check-in with all the major airlines.
  • Disliked — molokai wing

My husband & I stayed here the last 3 nights of our honeymoon. The rest of the week we were at a condo so we were really looking forward to the luxury of a hotel. Our room package came with the free rental car, so we dropped our previous rental off & picked up the free one. It was a really cute Dodge Cailber - so much nicer than the crappy Cavalier we drove the rest of the week.

Like a ditzy teenager, I mistakenly left my purse at a restaurant near the airport and didn't realize until we were getting our bags out of the car with the valet. The valet was super nice to help me make sure it wasn't in the car or with my bags and the concierge helped me locate the phone number to the restaurant. The drive back to get my purse sucked b/c Kaanapali is not close to the airport at all and it was "rush hour" on the one & only road to the airport.

Our room was oceanfront and really nice - there was a card & champagne waiting for us (plastic flutes, but still nice.) This hotel is not swanky by any means & luxurious it isn't. But it's a great deal for budget conscious people.

One bank of elevators was broken the whole time we were visiting, so getting back up to the room was a chore. We also had trouble getting a concierge to help us book a luau. It seemed like she was on lunch everytime we went down there. We eventually booked, though, and had a great time.

Each night, we had turn-down service where they left an orchid & macadamia nut cookie on your pillow. I thought it was a cute touch.

When you leave, you have the option of attending a farewell ceremony where you get a kakui nut lei that you are supposed to bring back every visit. They will then trade out the nuts on your lei for different nuts. They really try to make you feel like your are "ohana" - "family".

The pool is nice but nit near as cool as some of the other pools down the strip.

Our package included free breakfast at the Blue Plate every morning - really good buffet - and one free dinner at the on-site restaurant. It was probably the best meal we had all week.

The whole Kaanapali area is nice and we loved how close (walking distance) it was to Whalers Village (shopping and restaurants).

Just writing this makes me want to go back :)

we stayed at the KBH. i already knew what to expect, so i was not put out by the dingy, out of date lobby or the musty rooms. there were no leis or friendly greeters, just a tired check in person, we arrived at 400 on a friday. we got to our ocean front room only to find a huge tree blocking the view in front and a wall extending out 10 feet on our right, blocking the view towards black rock. we were grateful that they had another room available which gave us a practically unobstructed view up and down the beach. we were on the 3rd floor and felt like we were on the beach -- made THE difference in the whole trip! if you dont like people noise during the day, dont get these rooms, if you love to see the ocean and whales jumping from your room at all hours of the day, it is worth it (ok,ok not if your view is blocked by a tree and a wall). DO NOT EAT at this hotel. neither the aloha plate (THE MOST NASTY OF FOODS),the tiki grill (why we ate here and got Costco frozen pattie hamburgers and not the Hula grill which is 50 yards from this hotel is beyond me)or the actual restaurant, you will be disappointed with all of these.the tiki bar was a nice friendly place and the mi tais were good. the grounds we very clean and meticulously kept. i would not like this hotel if i didnt get the room that i did. although below us was construction during the day, all 7 days we were here, the view still made our stay bearable. keep in mind that when people say it (this hotel) is a glorified motel 6, they are correct. check out was done by an elderly woman who could not use a computer to save her life. ... but again, the room made my stay here wonderful. i rated this at a 3 becuase i felt that even though my room's view was magnificent, i paid big bucks for it, so that should be a given. the rest of the hotel was just ok.
