I read several reviews on several web sites, magazines, travel channel shows, etc. before we made the decision to stay at the Hyatt. We booked our trip through a local travel agent and she did try to get us into the Regency Club from the time we booked the trip (September) right up until the time we left. I honestly don't think that not being able to get into the Regency Club has anything to do with who you book your trip through. At least I really hope not. I had also read reviews where the hotel seemed dated, that children were running all over the place and that the Hyatt wasn't worth the cost. I can only speak from our experience, but we absolutely loved it. We only used the valet parking once, the night that we arrived and we were not even out of the car before the staff was taking our luggage and grocery bags. Check in was painless, although there still was no Regency Club availability. We found our partial ocean room very nice, although I agree with one of the other reviews that the balcony was pretty narrow. The room was large with a lot of storage space, including a walk in closet. We had a frig put in the room so that we could stock up on milk, juice, lunchmeat, sodas etc. I didn't think the room was dated, but rather authentic. The staff was always very nice and helpful. Even though the hotel was at full capacity, we didn't feel overrun at all. Children for the most part were at the kiddie pool area. The ones at the large pool were very well behaved and we didn't even notice them there. In fact, the gentlemen sitting next to us by the pool was 1 of a party of 22, including his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. You would have never known it. The Hyatt also has its own catamaran on which you can schedule a snorkeling trip. I think the cost was about $80. This wasn't the best charter that you could book, but it was convenient and perfect for me. My husband had taken a bike trip and I wanted something to do with myself for those couple of hours. Food was expensive, but then, from what I've read, food is pretty much expensive everywhere. Breakfast at the Swan Terrace as a wonderful buffet, great atmosphere, but pricey. The cost was $22 per person. Sodas down by the pool costs $3.50 per 12 oz can. I will say, the the food that we had in Maui was the best food that we've every eaten and we travel extensively. Some people complained about the lack of parking, but we never ever had a problem. No matter what time we got back, we found parking in the front lot. I don't think a lot of people realize that there is more parking in the rear. The parking spots are very small though, but we found this to be the case everywhere we went in Maui. There are cabannas to rent for $40.00 per day but we didn't find this worth the cost. If you see the picture that I posted on here listed as "What the Hyatt calls a cabanna", you will see why. There are several regular lounge chairs that have adjustable covers over them that are actually nicer and don't cost anything. The Hyatt does have 2 "Hales". I also posted a picture of one of these. This is what we considered a cabbana. You can rent these for $100.00 per day. It comes with a few "extras" like bottled water and fruit. I believe the staff will also go get food for you from the pool bar although the cost of the food is extra. The location of the hales is beautiful. We would have splurged and rented one for a day, but by the time we got there and discovered them, they were booked for the rest of our stay. The beach area isn't that great, but the beach walk is awesome. The beach at the Sheraton could not be beat along the Kaanapali area. We found the grounds and common areas to be beautiful and well maintained. Overall we loved the Hyatt and definitely intend to stay there when we go back.
