“Hyatt Regency Maui is a phenomenal place to stay and dine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

My wife and I, along with hew sister and brother-in-law, were here at the Hyatt during the first week of December, 2012. The first thing that strikes you as you enter the hotel is the open lobby, with warm summer breezes permeating everywhere. There are palm trees and plenty of plant life growing all around you as you make your way through the lobby. There are plenty of boutique shops in the lobby area for any last minute purchases. A full buffet breakfast is available on site, as well as several dining locations. The pool area is nothing short of fabulous, complete with two waterfalls and, of course, a basketball hoop. Poolside seating is plentiful, and bar service is available at the pool. The tower we were in has nine floors, which offers a great view of the pool, gardens and ocean.

Room Tip: Any room is a great room, and worthy of consideration.

Our family of 4 have just returned to Australia after 8 nights spent at the Hyatt regency, Maui. We had a truly wonderful stay, even after reading some fairly ordinary reviews.
So firstly I want to say that during our stay I think this resort was fully occupied. We were unable to get any upgrade and were given a room on the 3rd floor of the Lahaina Tower. Our room was clean and roomy enough for 2 queen beds, 4 big suitcases and a roll away. We were grateful for the fridge and walk in robe for extra space. The beds were very comfortable.
However if you have young children who need to sleep before 9pm this is not the tower or room for you. It's right on top of the luau so we saw the show every night and twice on New Year's Eve! A birds eye view!
One tip you might find useful is the second self parking area at the side of our tower. We never had trouble parking there and it was a much closer walk to our room.
So all you've read about the pool and the chair situation is true. It's busy and it was difficult if not impossible to find 4 seats together. One day we ended up paying for 2 chairs on the beach which at least meant we had chairs for the day. But beware if you're a late riser these also go very quickly. And we met people who wanted and were willing to pay for chairs but were unable to get any. Other days we managed to get a couple of chairs or lie on the grass.
The pool and grounds are beautiful. We swam every day and didn't find the temperature too cold. The beach is indeed narrow and widened up a bit further up. The ocean floor is rocky so be careful.
We ate at the umalu pool bar. The staff were amazing. Always friendly despite being run off their feet. We all bought water bottles so we could fill up with water, juice and soda whenever we wanted. It was a worthwhile investment!
My husband and I had a lovely dinner at the swan court restaurant. Very courteous service and lovely food though dessert was disappointing.
We also used the gym. Yes it was very busy but I always managed to find a treadmill or cross trainer to use. We also participated in some of the group classes. The outdoor boot camp on the beach was lots of fun.
Really we enjoyed this property and our time there so much, despite the fact that the resort was full to capacity. All the staff especially housekeeping were friendly and polite, always greeted us and spent a moment chatting. We would return and stay again in a heart beat!

We are a family with one 9 year old daughter. We stayed at the Hyatt over Christmas and had a great time. We enjoyed the lush landscaping and the birds on display. The rooms are attractive and very comfortable, with a lot of counter space in the bathroom area. My daughter really enjoyed the children's pool area with the small slide and the fountains. My husband and I found the pool water too cold to really enjoy. I didn't even venture in past my knees before getting too cold. The pool is so incredibly large (and beautiful) it would probably cost way too much to heat it very much more. But there was a nice large hot tub to warm up in. The outdoor restaurant next to the pool was very nice for an inexpensive family dinner, yet with Hawaiian ambiance. We didn't have a lot of luck with breakfast in the hotel because the lines were very long and the restaurant looked very expensive. We drove to a local restaurant that was much less expensive and quicker. The mini bar in the hotel room was a constant source of problems with a 9 year old child. They also had candies laid out in an array on a shelf. If I were to stay there again I would definitely ask for the temptations to be removed. The luau was really fun and the food was DELICIOUS!

My husband and I were very disappointed with this hotel. The only thing we liked about it was the location! The rooms certainly need updating, they are trading on past glory and the hotel is definitely not good value for money, the charges are akin to the Ritz Carlton in nearby Kapalua but offering nothing like the luxury of the Ritz. During our stay there was major maintenance work being done during the day on our block, extremely noisy and also meant that we could not even sit outside on our balcony, when we asked to move we were told that there were no other rooms available at that time as the hotel was pretty full. I think the hotel should have closed off that block while the work was on-going (several of the staff also made that comment to us) but I guess they would not have wanted to lose the revenue. The pool area was always crowded and you could often not even get a sun lounger, the beach adjacent charged extortionate rates for a lounger etc for the day - we thought with what we were paying for the hotel, it should certainly include sun loungers on the beach, without having to pay extra! The breakfast buffet was very average and always meant joining a line each morning to get a table, in fact the restaurant is nothing like large enough to accommodate the number of rooms at the hotel, especially during busy times. We ate at several of the restaurants and found the food to be average, have had better and have had worse! The gym was a 10 minute from the main hotel and always full. We would certainly not be recommending this hotel to anyone and would obviously never stay there again.

My family enjoyed this resort allot. We stayed late October 2012. Lobby was nice and kids enjoyed the parrots and other exotic birds. They liked the penguins and gardens. Kids really enjoyed the pool slides. We were shown to our room by the best bellman I have met. He talked to the kids and called to clear out the mini bar so kids would not be tempted. He suggested restaurants. Aloha mixed plate is great in LahaIna great value! This is our 2nd visit and we really liked our stay at this resort. Not a large beach but very large pool area. Resort is about 15 minutes from the main Kaanapali Beach or near Whalers village. We stayed in the main tower with view of mountain. Our bed was great. Kids had a pullout but said it was fine did not catch that when reserving room. Room was clean quiet we reserved a Respire room by the way. We had some issue checking out causing us to wait awhile in line to check out and unable to use express check out but all was corrected. Valet at this resort was quick and helpful more so than others on the islands. There is a resort fee. Most of the resorts do this I only wish valet or parking was included. Or at least a short shuttle to whalers village or to the beach access there would have made the fee more valuable. We liked our stay and the pool was very relaxing and we did not want to leave. Kids would have liked the slide to stay open till sundown. We have stayed at about 4 resorts in Hawaii and this is in top two. Not large beach right at this resort but pool and view make up for it! Great Stay and recommend staying here!

Room Tip: Stay in the main tower try Respire room.

Expensive for nothing ! they charge even for the beach chairs and umbrella !
Overall atmosphere was really good but for unnecessary charges, like having to pay for parking or get the valet.
I have had better experience with friendlier staff at other similar hotels & resort.
