We simply love this place! We own a timeshare week here and also spent time in a resort unit. The staff is always very welcoming and helpful.
While Maui is well known for the busy Ka’anapali area, Kihei has a very comfortable neighborhood feel to it. It is on the dry side of the island. The resort is located at the southern end of Kihei, bordering on Wailea, in an upscale residential area. It is on a hill and some units have a distant view of the ocean. To your east is a nice view of the back of Haleakala and the mountain areas. The grounds are very well maintained with lots of flowers, trees and birds. There is an outdoor pool, poolside Ping-Pong table, barbecue grills, tennis court, shuffleboard, putting green, and whirlpool on site. The units are 1- 3 BRs, all with full kitchens and large lanais. The one and two BRs have 2 baths; the 3 BR has 3 baths. The Master BR has a king bed. The kitchens and baths were recently upgraded with stone floors, stone shower and bath enclosures and granite countertops. Other upgrades are in place for furnishings, flat screens, etc. There are steps to all units.
The resort is not beach front; but, the most beautiful beach –Keawakapu - is across the street. You could walk but we prefer to drive and park on the free public lots adjacent to the beach. Remember it will be an uphill walk to get back to your unit! There is a public lot next to the Days Inn and another off the Mana Kai condo parking lot. If you buy something (even a paper) from the little store – Zacks- located in the Mana Kai condos they will provide you the code for the restrooms located in the condo. The store also sells sandwiches, salads, drinks etc. The beachfront Wailea walkway is a short distance away and a great place to get in a morning/late afternoon walk.
Costco is located near the airport – note they don’t sell prepared meals as most other Costco’s do. There are lots of restaurants on Kihei Rd and in Wailea but a favorite of ours is Da Kitchen. It is a great place for good ‘local’ food - warning- very large servings - at a very reasonable price. There is another larger one in Kahalui. Best choice for grocery stores are Times Super Markets and Foodland, both located on Kihei Rd, north of the resort. Times sells plate lunches Wednesday and Friday afternoon – very tasty!
You will know you are in Hawaii when staying here! .
