One-week stay in late August of '04. Several floors of condo were in process of renovation, and the room we stayed in was already updated. Modest furnishings, all new appliances, overall accomodations were above-average. Great value stay for weekly rate; we had ocean/garden view.

Didn't use all of services available, but will make note to do more research for next vacation - we do plan on using Sunset again in the future.

Stayed here with my family last August. What a wonderful 2 bedroom condo, with all of the amenities. Nice and clean. Great view of the ocean and sunset from our lanai. I will tell all my friends to stay here if they visit Maui.

When I say "excellent" I mean for my family specifically. We rent from private owners and have been happy there on both trips. We are in the midst of planning this years trip back to the property.
Traveling with two children 3 and under we really like having the full kitchen and the washer dryer. It makes staying in a hotel more difficult once you've had all the comforts of home. We prefer a ground floor unit so our little ones can go and run around on the perfectly manicured lawn. They love to chase the birds, sure the birds hate it, but they kids have "the best time"! The property is very convenient to the biggest Safeway in all of Hawaii, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Outback Steak House, Longs and just about any other store one could possibly need.
Sandy, at the pool, is an expert on all things "Maui". If you can handle her "tell it like it is" attitude, you can get some excellent dining suggestions etc. from her. We always look forward to seeing her and finding out about the latest and greatest in Maui.
Overall, it's a neat, convenient and well price place to stay. Some of the condos can be dated in their furnishings, so ask lots of questions.
Have a great time and don't think twice about staying at the Maui Sunset!

We stayed at the Maui Sunset from January 7 to 16, 2005. It was reasonably enjoyable. I'm a very picky person as well so my initial reaction to the place was a little disappointment. Though after the travel exhaustion wore off, it all looked much better. Our kitchen was very nice but the rest of the condo was average - a lot of wicker. We stayed on the main level in Building A and the wall between the bedroom and the outside was paper-thin. We could literally hear regular noise-level conversation as though we were in the same room. The bed was average as well. Also, why they have carpeting in a tropical climate is beyond me. These types of units should all be tiled. We met a few other families there and once they saw our unit, they marvelled at how nice it was compared to theirs. And here we were thinking ours was average'ish! Apparently, it really is the luck of the draw as some units are owned and some are strictly rentals. In any case, I agree with the comments about the grounds (beautiful), bbq, putting green, pool and hot tub were awesome. People were friendly too. Overall, a decent place for good value but you need to get a good unit!
