“Brutal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2012

We booked a tour. Could NOT have been worse. The guide let everyone spread out so far noone could hear anything, didn't help with snorkeling. And had the gall to ask for a tip ahead of time!!! NOT!!!

“Unsuccessful trying to rent kayak twice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

Reserved kayak rental during evening and showed up at 7am as agreed to pick up the rental. Was told that surf was to high for rentals and that only groups would go out. Made a second attempt for the next morning only to go through the same experience again. what upsets me the most is that they didn't call me to cancel the rental or tell me upfront that conditions weren't suitable for renting the evening before the second attempt as conditions didn't change. Go elsewhere for rentals.

“Exceptional experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2011

Our group was scheduled to kayak and snorkel off Makena Landing on 11/26/11. Our guide, Griff, saw that the wind was howling at about 25 that day. Instead of setting us up for a negative experience kayaking into the wind and waves, he suggested we all postpone until 11/28/11 when the winds were predicted to die down. He didn't have to do that. Great judgement on his part. The experience we all had on 11/28/11 was excellent. The conditions were favorable. Wonderful local knowledge, great treatment of members of our group who had motion difficulty and excellent wildlife. Would request Griff as a guide again. A real difference maker.

“Chris is amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

My wife Katie and I went out on a beautiful Maui morning to a lovely beach at mile marker 14 where we met Chris, our guide from South Pacific Kayaks. He was very professional, very well prepared, informative, easy-going, and it was as clear as the water that he loves what he does. The kayaks he put us in were tandems, but handled very well in the light chop of the bay. He took us out to a couple of spots in the bay to snorkel, and they were they best spots I've ever enjoyed--sea turtles everywhere. I think I counted about 20 total! Chris knew exactly where to go, and on top of that he didn't rush us. In true aloha style he said to just come back to the kayaks when we were ready. The gear was great, the snacks and Hawaiian sodas perfect: in short, we had a blast. We'll be back for sure.

“trip itself was good, but guide was on auto-pilot.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2011

Four of us went on a trip with Chris. We all had kayaking and snorkeling experience prior, and just wanted to get out and enjoy some kayaking and snorkeling with a guide. The trip itself was good - green sea turtles, fishes, good views. Chris seemed to just be on auto-pilot however. Don't get me wrong, he was completely safe, organized and said everything that needed to be said, including some historical background about Maui. I also understand that being a tourist guide can be no fun, and there are times when you're just not into it, or the tourists suck. But he definitely was not interested in making any small talk, and was quite interested in taking his own photos in the water. He did talk after the tour ended and we were eating snacks at his truck, but it was disappointing to not have someone who would be interactive during the trip.
