“HAWAIIAN Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

This place is authentic. The food was good, but not for our family. The food was a bit salty. The kids really liked the teriyaki chicken.

“Worked well for a picnic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We had an assortment of dishes and they were okay. We took out for a group of people for a picnic. The food was not overly hot because the dishes were not co-ordinated so they put a couple of bags together and then we had to wait for the rest to be ready when we picked it up and it cooled down fast. The containers also leaked which made carrying the bags a challenge. Some of it was better than others. The people that work there were all very nice. The portions were generous.

“Yummy Musubi”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

My husband and I shared a traditional Hawaiian mixed plate here with a starter of Spam Musubi (I just had to try it). It would have been nice if they made the Musubi fresh but they don't, it sits on a platter on the counter wrapped in plastic wrap. It was really good though and I didn't die from eating it so it was ok. I really wasn't very impressed with the food after all the hype about this place. It was just ok. I hesitate to say it was bad because it was traditional food so maybe it's just a case of my tastebuds not really being use to it. I also felt it wasn't as clean as it should be. The girl at the counter was nice, which was a huge switch from our first trip when we decided to try the place. The counter staff glared at us when we walked in and we felt so uncomfortable we turned and walked out. This time at least we got a very nice welcome. We felt the place just wasn't for us though and we likely won't return, some people love it so to each his own.

“Go somewhere else”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013 via mobile

We ate here today on recommendation of the Maui Revealed book. He is usually right on, but this is not one of those times. To start with, the table we sat at was sticky and was visibly dirty. The people who work there were nice. I gave the value a 3 because the amount of food they gave us was unbelievable. Apparently this place is big with locals, because there were several in and out while we were there. I recommend splitting a plate with a friend. There mac salad tastes like it came straight outta the dairy case at a mainland grocery store (in other words, gross).

“take home some rice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

One of the things I like about Da Kitchen is that it is so convenient to the condos in Kihei. The meals are huge. Buy some extra rice there and some extra Katsu sauce and you can use them for other meals that you make in your condo once you've run out of the leftovers from the main course. You don't need your own rice cooker that way.
