“good joint but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Right after landing, we went to Da Kitchen for lunch. Fried Spam Musubi was great (fattening so it had to taste good). Salmon stir fry was great. cheeseburger was ok and Saimen Noodle Soup was not good. Generally I rather have Pho or other asian noodle soup than Saimen but this wasn't what $12 soup should be.

“Great local food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

One of our favorite places to eat on Maui! The food is local cuisine, and the portions are HUGE! You can definitely share a meal which makes it even more reasonable than it already is! Kalua pork and teriyaki chicken, and any of the fish are our favorites!

“Da Kitchen in Kapalua”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Near the airport, across from Costco and KMart, a strip mall place where you have to wait to get in. The food was excellent, the atmosphere crowded, the service was excellent. They were really on to serving a busy restaurant. We ordered the Hawaiian Plate and split it between the two of us. It was more than we could finish. Very good. Nice to experience that kind of cooking and food.

“You want to taste local style food?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

DA Kitchen is the place. A little tricky to find at first. It is up on a side street in a strip mall. Unless you are a really big eater, split an order. You'll still have plenty. Or take half back to condo for tomorrow lunch or dinner; cuts the price in half. They are always busy between tables and take-out. I know the styrofoam seems tacky, but proably more than half the people end up taking some home. Saves a lot of water and electricity that would go into washing dishes and they'd still have to give you a take-out container. Now if it wasn't for the styrofoam, I'd say that it was a "green" operation.

Food was good, but as some have mentioned, does,'t seem quite up to several years ago. I had the teriyaki chicken, my husband had kalua pork (too salty for me). Enjoyed it for lunch the next day. As for the ambiance, think "local", not "tourist."
