We went to Kono's because I read good reviews in tripadvisor. Now I can support those opinions by telling you how pleased we were last night. My husband got the onion soup (as good as any in Paris) and a Hawaiian 10" pizza (ham and pineapple). I tasted a bit of both, so I can attest to how good they were. I ordered the Salmon Marinade with Papaya for an appetizer. Outstanding! I asked for a little more papaya because it was so perfect with the 4 generous rolled-up slabs of raw, marinated salmon. It came with watercress and little circles of nice wasabi sauces. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was even better. My entree of seared ahi with a great sauce and veggies like wild rice, broccolini and fancy mushrooms was totally scrumptious. Neither of us could finish our meals, so we took the rest home for a delicious lunch today. And compared to the cost of similar dishes at the fancy Wailea hotel restaurants, it was a bargain for what I would call Master Chef food. (I watch a lot of food shows). I think the prices are comparatively reasonable because Kono's is hard to find. It is really on Lopia St. (not sure of the spelling today), just off Piilani Highway. Our GPS tried to take us into the Safeway Shopping Center. It is at the Elleair Golf Course, but there are no signs at the corner of Lopia to guide you. Note to management: If you market yourself better, you will have many more dinner patrons. We plan to go there again before we leave Maui. Next time we will try their signature dish -- rack of lamb.
