OK this is NOT your idea of a romantic Maui location -- it's in a shopping center set back off of Lipoa and on top of a parking lot. It's almost more sports bar-ish. But don't let looks deceive you. We went there twice. And part of it is that they make everything they can from scratch on premises (pasta, baked goods, pizza, desserts..). Each time we shared a house salad, which is very generous in size. Our first visit my dining partner had the linguine con vongole (she NEVER orders or eats clams) and they came out in the shell, perfectly sweet and tender, the linguine perfect and the clam sauce (some call white) was superb. I went simple: spaghetti marinara and some of the simplest things can be totally screwed up: some marinaras can have a bitter edge - not this - just thick enough, tomatos not fully pureed, good blend of spicing and herbs with perfect, house made pasta, and the sauce the way I remember from Genoa. Entrees are served with house made focaccia which was perfectly seasoned. For dessert, home made cannoli and I had a real cappuccino single shot. Our second trip we shared a Genovese pizza - "white" meaning no tomato sauce - instead a bechamel dotted with tender shrimp, basil pesto and ripe roma tomatos. Excellent and the crust just right (although I sam still an east coast guy and prefer a little bubble and burn). For $20/pp (excluding drinks) I think we found another gem. PS it is a bit "loud" and there are flat-screens broadcasting sports games in the evenings, but they are on mute with audio in caption mode. Overall very thoughtful. Plus, the owner is usually on premises, which helps make things tick a bit stronger.
