“Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

The HPH could not have been a more perfect place to stay for our week long trip to Maui. Located just south of the busiest part of Kihei, the HPH is located right on Kamaole Beach #2. In fact, it's at the north end of Kam 2, and there is decent snorkeling right outside the complex at the point between Kam 1 and Kam 2. Nice to be able to just walk downstairs and be able to lie on the beach, do some swimming, or snorkeling, all within earshot of your room. We stayed on the 7th floor of the high rise, which had awesome views all around. If you are staying in the high rise, you may as well either try for the top floor (no one above you), or the first floor (you can walk right out onto the beach from your living room.)

Our unit was a 1 BR, 2 BA unit, which was nice when we each wanted to shower at the same time. Each unit is different, in different stages of update, some not at all, some completely renovated. Use their website to pick the one you want, and see photos. It's hard to review the specific unit we were in, since each one can be so different. Overall, it's a very nice complex. There is a lawn area right outside, above the beach, if you don't want to get sand in all your nooks and crannies. We didn't use the pool, but it's rather small. Why go swimming in a chlorinated pool when you have the ocean 200' away, anyway? The beach was very nice, with soft sand, and very mild waves. The winds can pick up in the afternoon, which is nice for cooling off the condo, but not as nice for lying on the beach (unless you like getting sandblasted.) The sun went down rather early, around 6:45 in late April, and the complex really quiets down around 8, which was nice. We went to bed early, partly to keep our body clocks on time as best we could, and because the island has so much to offer during the day, we'd get up really early to start the day.

I'd highly recommend staying here!

Room Tip: High rise units with a lower number per floor (401 on the 4th floor, 701 on the top floor) have a mu...

My wife and I have stayed here 2 times now. The staff is great, the grounds are beautiful, and the view is priceless! I wouldn't stay any where else in Maui!

Room Tip: We stayed in 504 the last 2 years now! We love it!

Stayed for 8 days in low rise unit 25. Updated and just perfect for a couple. Views are outstanding from unit and plenty of lounge chairs to relax in. On the grass above the wind blown beach. Not many places right on the beach like this. I really can't say enough about this location being so close to Wailea and Makena.

We stayed 4 nights in a 1 bed 2 bath apartment. The apartment was very clean and equipped with everything you could think of. Did our shopping at Foodland - and HPH is walking distance from several restaurants. The only thing that may bother you is the noisy air conditioning. We did not use it - but opened the window instead. We slept very well. We recommend HPH and would not hesitate to stay here again, only longer.

We stayed at HPH for six days during beginning of March 2012. Ideally placed on the beautiful beach in Kihei it gives you an excellent base for exploring Maui. Our apartment was equipped with everything we needed like dishwasher, microwave etc. Stunning views from the living room - e.g. Seeing the whales in the mornings and lovely sunsets. Extremely helpful reception and management giving you valuable advice on what to do and where... HPH is highly recommendable! :)

Room Tip: 29 - very nice and cosy appt

This was our second stay at the Hale Pau Hana. It is a wonderful complex right on the beach (complete with amazing snorkelling reef). The units vary in quality quite a bit - some are completely renovated and some look very tired. Unit 19 was a combination. The kitchen and bathroom had been renovated and were very nice. The bedroom and living room area were dated but clean. Our last unit, 26, was no where near as nice.

The air conditioning didn't work but when we complained, a new one was installed the next day. The two day beds in the living were very comfortable as was our king in the master bedroom.

The BBQ area and pool is well maintained and the staff are friendly. Don't expect a resort though - there is no bar or restaurant; simply a condo on the beach. They should consider extending the pool hours from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

For the location, it can't be beat - just be sure to book the unit you want by looking at the pictures on their website.

The sunsets are incredible and every unit has an ocean view.

There are many great restaurants in the area as well.

Room Tip: Check the website and look at each unit in advance before you book.

It really depends on the room you end up with as far as how nice they are. I stayed in an end unit that was not updated at all and Very pricey!! My sister and her husband had a room that was completely remodeled and it was the same price. I roomed with my cousins who had the bedroom on the street side of the condos and they said it was noisy. I got the hide a bed in living room. Very comfy for a pull out, plus the only noise was the waves. These are independently owned units and all decorated differently so it would be wise to browse the rooms on the website when making a decision to stay here. And be prepared to pay 2 to 3 hundred bucks a night. It's one of the only places right on the beach in Kihei so if that's a priority this place is great. My sis was getting married and wanted us all together or I probably could have settled for something more affordable.

Room Tip: make sure to look on website for a room that suits your needs. this place has a lot of older folks...
