“Best dinner in Maui, and reasonably priced for quality.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We had planned on going to a different restaurant that a friend had recommended in the same strip mall as Cuatro, but it wasn't open so we "took a chance" with Cuatro and were glad we did. We were so glad that we went back there a second time (we were only in Maui for eight days) and skipped the other restaurant altogether. Their fish specialties were the best - by far - that I've eaten anywhere. In fact, we went to another highly rated and three times more expensive fish specialty restaurant on Maui that paled by comparison to Cuatro. If Cuatro was located in a prime view location, it would be famous. It would also be much larger. Okay, down to specifics. Of greatest importance, the fish is fresh and cooked perfectly tender. We are very particular about this. They feature three types of fish and four creative presentations. You pick which fish and match it to which style you prefer. The service is top-notch. Our waiter explained the nuances of each fish and each presentation. He seemed to be very proud of the restaurant and said it was owned by a friend of his. As others have noted, it is BYOB with only a $7 corkage fee. I love that I can purchase wine at retail price instead of restaurant price. The savings go to one of their excellent salads or - better yet - their simple yet delectable ice cream with fruit and secret sauce dessert. We never order dessert at restaurants, but are really glad we did this time. One of the reasons we returned to Cuatro for a second time was because of the dessert. Don't expect elaborate; expect an elegant finish to cleanse the palate. Why is Maui so far away from Seattle? Darn.

“Best Meal in Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

This place is a must, especially if you're staying in Kihei or Wailea. The best food, everything was delicious, and the prices were so reasonable! $20-$30 per plate. Service was great as well! We are planning on going back before we head home . Five stars all the way !!!

“Fantastic place in Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

Couldn't wait to try Cuatro after reading its reviews, so after a 12 hour plane ride from NYC to Maui, I arrived just in time for my first dinner in Hawaii -and it was fabulous. I love little neighborhood gems like this -convenient parking, not far from the beach and lovely, cozy ambience. Spicy Tuna Nachos had a nice texture and the combination of cilantro pesto and truffle aioli was unlike anything I've ever had. Ditto for the pupu steak (I'm a fan of things flavored with truffle.)

The Monchong cooked in the house style was delicious -fresh, cooked to perfection. While rice pilaf sounds dull and boring to me (reminds me of eating at the Sizzler) Cuatro's chef prepares it with a nice beurre blanc sauce that made want to come back for more. Good service, very attentive waitstaff. This place was my first stop in Maui and so glad it was.

“A hidden gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

Tucked away in a nondescript shopping center is Cuatro, an outstanding, small and inventive restaurant. Went there with my family and came away completely satisfied and very impressed. We were met at the door by the owner/chef who was just so proud of his restaurant and the food. He explained every nuance of each dish and everything came out as advertised. Don't miss the tuna nachos appetizer...amazing flavor. Also don't miss the steak appetizer (popou?) which could be a meal in itself. As a matter of fact you could have a great meal just eating appetizers. We all ate different things but the chicken dish was as good as anything chicken I've ever eaten. BYOB which isn't a problem since there is a Foodland right there with a decent select. There is a corkage fee. Only drawback is the lack of toilet facilities in the restaurant. You need to go just outside to a public rest room.

If you're ever in Kihei, don't miss Cuatro!

“Best value in Kihei”

Ate here twice during an 8 day stay in Maui. Freshest fish cooked perfectly both times. Entrees $20 to $30. Service is excellent. BYOB. Highly recommend this restaurant.
