We just recently returned from our trip to Hawaii. We stayed in Waikiki for a week and then moved on to Maui. I would definitely stay in the Kihei area again. You need a rental car in Maui, but it's a quick trip to Kahului to shop at larger stores such as Costco, Walmart, etc. or to go walk & browse the many shops and restaurants on Front Street in Lahaina. South Kihei seems like a new & clean area. The beach across the street from the hotel is nice, although when we visited - windy. We liked to visit Big Beach - but be warned of the large waves, kids & adults were knocked over by them. The hotel was nicely situated. The staff seemed friendly. Parking was free (which I've heard isn't always the case at other hotels). They have two computer terminals in the lobby for internet use. The rooms were pretty much average. They were clean and quiet but nothing very fancy. (You don't spend too much time in your hotel anyway.) Stay above the first level, though, because the balconies on the first seemed almost "basement-like" - sort of below the parking lot with a view of a retaining wall. The pillows are very flat - so maybe ask for extras. We had the continental breakfast package on the on-site restaurant. It was fine - choice of toast, bagel or muffin, coffee, juice. Otherwise, the prices seemed pretty expensive. Overall, nothing to complain about, but pretty much average.

The Maui Coast Hotel was not my family's first pick, but it ended up being suprisingly great! Driving by all the hotels on the island, the Maui Coast was definetly the one with the nicest exterior. Upon arrival we were greeted with a smile and friendly welcome. The lobby was gorgeous and very open. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. The room was a nice size with two balconies. The bedroom had a closet with safe and a huge, comfortable bed. The rest consisted of a pull out sofa bed, bathroom and the basic hotel neccessities. The pool was nice and secluded, and there were many hot tubes scattered/seculded throughout the hotel premises. By the pool there was a bar where you could sit, relax and order drinks. At night there was music and lights adorning the pool. It was such a great atmosphere I could have spent all day there. Also there was a restaurant on the premises, it was alright, I would suggest one of the restaurants closer by that are within walking distance. The hotel staff was outstanding in my perspective. Every day when I would come down through the lobby they would greeet me and ask how my previous day had been and what I was going to be doing today. They seemed genuinely interested and always had suggestions if needed. Across from the hotel is a great little beach in Kihei, good for laying in the sun and relaxing. Furthermore many great restaurants within walking distance and many great shopping venues. Overall my trip was a wonderful experience and I will be staying at the maui coast hotel again in the future.

The Maui Coast Hotel was really nice and clean. The staff, I would say, were about average. The pool and secluded hot tub were also nice. The only complaint we had was when the Expedia fun desk person in the lobby referred us to a condo sales pitch in Lahaina for a free $100.00 activity voucher. All you had to do was go to Lahaina and listen to a presentaion over the Fairmont resort condos. She kept telling us how great it was and how it wouldn't be a high pressured sales pitch, just go listen, eat free lunch, and leave. She was so wrong. It was very high pressured. They ran our credit without telling us and were just complete jerks. We got up and left in the middle of it. Do not get suckered into this! I would not do it again even for $1,000. Anyway, The hotel could not have been in a better location. This was our first trip to Maui so we didn't really know where to stay. Everyone kept telling us to stay up North in Kaanapali at one of the big resorts but I'm so glad we didn't. All the great sites and beaches on the west part of Maui are down south, not in Kaanapali like everyone tells you. We traveled to Kaanapali a few times and realized how far away it was from all the great stuff. All they had were big hotels with nice pools and bad beaches. If that's what you're looking for, go to some random beach resort in the US. Tips: Make sure and visit Makena Beach down South, aka Big Beach and Little Beach. Big Beach is beautiful! Use caution though, Little Beach is a nude beach. If you are looking for all the beautiful and amazing women of Maui, go to the windsurfing beach Paia any day of the week! To go swimming with dolphins, go to La Perouse Bay down South right at sunrise. They will be there feeding with their babies....amazing!!! Also, Lahaina is where the cruise ships dump all the tourists. Enjoy!

We booked the Alcove suite and felt that it was not worth it. The lobby and entrance areas looked nice but our "suite" looked more like an upgraded motel room. The service from the staff was average and again it felt like were checking into a motel. No welcome or smile at all. When we asked one of the staff at concierge where we could rent kayaks, he said he wouldn't know(??). My husband's wallet was stolen and we explained we had to file a report to the police and we asked if they knew the number to call. We felt that we had to give them a lot of explanation in order for them to assist us. No motivation for customer service at all. Beaches are nice and good for swimming, kayaking and paddle board.

The Maui Coast hotel was Ok, I don't think it was worth the $193.00 a night at all. We got a Jr. alcove suite, i guess its one of the larger rooms. The location was ok, I love Kihei. The room was old, the bed was not comfy, and we found one little black beatle a day crawling on the floor. The room description said "garden terrace view", well they didn't mention that the "garden" had a parking lot running down the middle of it. We never used our Lanai because it was just too noisy outside. Inside our room with our glass door shut it was quite. We never used there pool but it looked nice and they had a poolside bar and grill that was great. The Spices restaurant was good too. We won't be staying at the hotel again.
