“Buffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2011

just want to tell people about the good, casual Japanese buffet. Plenty of choices, good quality. Older hotel and restaurant. Nothing fancy. It is convenient to the airport.

I found the Maui Beach Hotel by accident and glad I did. It's a nice hotel right near the airport, a major shopping, and it's convenient to many sightseeing locations in Maui -- including Paia, Hana, Iao Valley, and Maalaea.

The special at the time was $99/night which included breakfast for two people. The room was up-to-date and comfy. It had a fridge and safe... but no coffee maker. Another plus is that parking is free.

Downsides:
- Room size -- it was a pretty small room. But since I didn't come to Maui to hang out in my room, I didn't mind too much. But after two nights, I was ready for something bigger.
- Service is pretty slow. I remember when I was checking in wondering why the man was taking so long to give me a room.

I was content during my stay at the Maui Beach but after two nights, I was ready to move on to a resort.

Three star hotel very convenient to airport. Our flight arrived at 9:30 P.M. at night so the location was perfect. Room was small but clean and had free internet. Breakfast was included and had many hot and cold prices. Also very convenient to Sat. Swap Meet at community college, Macy's at the mall, and Whole Foods. Good value as far as Maui hotel prices go. Would stay here again at beginning or end of trip.

I had read mixed reviews and wasn't sure what to expect, but.... It definitely wasn't a resort, but doesn't claim to be. We were finishing a week stay in Maui and wanted a place near the airport. This enabled us to turn in our car a day early and have a day to unwind before heading home. The open air lobby was pleasant with tables and seating inside or out on a patio. The center of the large U-shaped building was grass, trees and flowers, opening on to the harbor. The swimming pool is on the second floor just outside the restaurant, thus it closes early - 5:30 pm. It was clean and unused, except by us. The beach in front of the hotel was rocky, but a short walk to the right brought us to a sandy beach, which we didn't use, but others did. We walked along the beach toward the cruise ship that was in port and also out to the jetty where we talked to local fishermen and watched sea turtles in the water. We ate two meals at the hotel. Dinner was the fanciest we ate on our trip, though some nights are buffet style. It changes by the night. There were a lot of choices at the breakfast buffet. Our room faced the open grass area and the harbor and was very quiet. The second floor had a lanai, we were on the first floor. There was a small refrigerator in the room, no microwave. There were two shopping centers within easy walking distance, but our suitcases were full so we skipped that. Free airport transportation by a very friendly driver was a definite plus. It was a pleasant end to a lovely vacation.

Overall it is one of only 2 hotels by the airport. Seemed clean although odd smell. Beds are a little tired. Close to airport. I would only suggest staying here on your way to/from airport. Since there is only one road from the west coast to the airport it is too risky (there were fires that shut down the road when we were there) to stay at any of the resorts. Note! The shuttle only runs until 9pm and only runs on the half hour. Front desk staff is apparently unaware of this. We left the hotel at around 9pm to drop off the rental car so we wouldn't have to deal with it the morning of the flight. Asked front desk if the shuttle could pick us up as we were dropping off the car. They said sure just call us. When we called from the rental drop off they informed us the shuttle stopped at 9pm! We left the hotel and asked the front desk at around 8:55pm! We were not happy at all with that. The hotel staff should know when the shuttle stops running. Couldn't find a cab as all the flights had landed for the night. A very nice policeman called a cab for us and waited with us. After 30min and no cab he saw a friend of his who worked at the airport and was also a cabbie. He gave us a ride to the hotel and didn't even charge us!!! A very sweet man and a good end to a frustrating experience.

We were driving back to our hotel in West Maui after spending the day driving the road to Hana when we hit a road closure due to brushfires. A restaurant across the street suggested we stay at the hotel as it was evening and no one was sure when the highway would reopen. As you can imagine, we were tired and not too happy about this. The hotel offered us a special discounted rate for our troubles and gave us a nice room! I've seen where hotels have raised their rates given a similar situation, so Thank You!

For a budget hotel, it is a bit expensive for what you get. They charge additional for each person over two people staying in the room. Showers small, not sure that a large person would fit! Clean rooms. Haridryer in bathroom area. Would stay there again for price and central location on Maui.
